Chapter 38 - After the Royal Hunting Competition

The final horn echoed across the forested arena, signaling the end of the Royal Hunting Competition. Alex's team-Alex, Kael, and Riven-crossed the finish line first, their synchronization and mastery of their mana-infused weapons leaving spectators awed. Moments later, the Crown Prince's team arrived, narrowly behind, their skill undeniable yet unable to match the seamless precision of Alex's trio.

The King, standing atop the central dais, raised his hands to quiet the murmurs of the gathered nobles. "Today, we have witnessed extraordinary skill and cooperation. Two teams have distinguished themselves above the rest." He gestured to Alex's team and the Crown Prince's team. "Both shall be honored as victors, and their rewards distributed accordingly."

Golden medallions were presented to Alex, Kael, and Riven, the weight of recognition settling pleasantly on their shoulders. Alex accepted his with a composed smile, his dark tunic and fitted black pants showing no trace of exhaustion. Riven clapped him on the shoulder once more, a private acknowledgment that only Alex would feel, a warmth that lingered beneath the formalities.

Kael leaned close, whispering, "Not bad, Alex... though I still can't believe how those weapons of yours make you look effortless."

Alex allowed himself a small chuckle. "You're learning, Kael. You'll see just how much precision matters."

As the victors stepped aside, the Crown Prince approached Alex with a polite but calculated smile. "Young Lord of Rosetta... your team's performance was impressive," he said, bowing slightly. "I must admit, I didn't expect such skill."

Alex inclined his head, eyes calm and composed. "Thank you, Your Highness. You and your team fought admirably as well."

The Crown Prince's gaze lingered a moment longer than necessary, a subtle curiosity flickering in his expression. "Perhaps... we might spar together in the future? I find it... enlightening to see one's skill firsthand."

Alex's lips curved in a faint, amused smile. "I'll keep that in mind, Your Highness. I would be honored to test my skills against yours, should the occasion arise."

A few nobles nearby whispered, noting the polite tension, while Riven stood just behind Alex, eyes narrowing ever so slightly as if to warn any who might underestimate his Cupcake. Kael, noticing the exchange, smirked quietly. "Looks like someone's gaining admirers."

Alex shook his head subtly, almost to himself, a soft giggle escaping. "Admirers or not, the competition is over, and the rewards are ours. That's what matters."

With the formalities concluded, the two teams disbanded, the crowd dispersing to discuss the day's events. But for Alex, the lingering warmth of Riven's touch and the subtle scrutiny of the Crown Prince marked the beginning of new layers of intrigue and challenge-both in skill and in the delicate dance of noble dynamics.
