Chapter 18: Giant Slayer - Part 2
Ben sprinted across shattered concrete, his small legs pumping, his broken arm dangling uselessly. The two armored giants thrashed ahead of him, Tony's suit sparking and failing under Iron Monger's relentless assault.
Obadiah's voice boomed through external speakers: "Any last words before I rip out your heart, Tony?"
Ben's voice, amplified by his comm system, cut through the violence: "Hey, BALDY! You forgot about ME!"
Obadiah's head turned toward Ben's voice, sensors locking on. This was the moment—pure bait, using himself as a target to create an opening.
Ben used Hawkeye's Aim to throw debris—a chunk of concrete that struck Iron Monger's optic sensors dead-on. It didn't damage them, but it was insulting, dismissive. A challenge from a child that Obadiah's ego couldn't ignore.
"You insignificant PEST!"
Iron Monger released Tony and charged Ben with thunderous steps. Tony screamed: "BEN, NO!"
But Ben was already moving, Enhanced Reflexes and Parkour combining into a desperate dance of survival. He slid under Iron Monger's grab, rolled past a stomping foot, used his web-shooters to swing around debris for momentum.
He was a mouse evading an elephant, and every move brought him closer to Iron Monger's back—exactly where he needed to be.
Obadiah, frustrated by missing a child repeatedly, stopped trying to be tactical and just swung wildly. One backhanded swipe caught Ben's ballistic vest, the impact lifting him off the ground and throwing him fifteen feet through the air.
He hit a concrete wall with bone-jarring force. His health dropped to 25%. Blood filled his mouth, the metallic taste mixing with dust and pain.
But he was exactly where he needed to be—Iron Monger's back was exposed.
Ben's body screamed at him to stay down, but his Enhanced Durability at Level 18 let him stagger upright on shaking legs. Iron Monger turned, raising a massive fist for what would certainly be a killing blow.
Ben fired his last web-shot, the line attaching to Iron Monger's shoulder. His working arm activated the web-shooter's retraction motor—a feature he'd added after watching Tony's suit—and it yanked his small body upward just as the fist smashed where he'd been standing.
He landed on Iron Monger's shoulder, directly beside the Arc Reactor housing. The stolen design glowed blue through armor gaps, its power tantalizingly close.
Obadiah's voice, realizing the danger: "You little—"
Ben jammed the EMP device into the reactor housing's ventilation port and triggered it without hesitation.
The electromagnetic pulse fired directly into Iron Monger's power core with devastating effect. Lights flickered throughout the facility. Servos seized with mechanical screams. Obadiah's voice cut off mid-curse as his suit's systems crashed.
The Iron Monger froze, locked up, its stolen Arc Reactor struggling to reboot against the electromagnetic interference.
Ben fell from the shoulder, too weak to control his landing. He hit the ground hard, and everything went blurry as consciousness flickered.
Through fading awareness, Ben saw Tony—his Mark III damaged but functional—approach the frozen Iron Monger. Obadiah was rebooting, systems slowly coming back online, but he had seconds, not minutes.
Tony's voice was cold with deadly purpose: "You tried to kill me, Obie. I could forgive that. But you nearly killed my SON."
The emphasis on that word—son—cut through Ben's pain, making him smile despite everything. Tony had claimed him completely, officially, in front of the world.
Tony ripped open Iron Monger's chest plate with a combination of repulsor blasts and physical strength, exposing the stolen Arc Reactor. He pulled it out with mechanical precision, and Iron Monger went dark, collapsing like a puppet with severed strings.
Obadiah's muffled cursing came from inside, trapped in tons of inert metal.
Tony rushed to Ben, faceplate retracting to reveal worry and pride warring across his features. "Ben! Stay with me, kid!"
Ben's System flashed final notifications: "QUEST COMPLETE: SURVIVE IRON MONGER ENCOUNTER. CALCULATING REWARDS..."
But the numbers faded as consciousness slipped away. The last thing he heard was Pepper's voice: "The ambulance is here! Tony, he's—"
"He's breathing. He's going to be fine. He has to be fine."
Then darkness, and the System's notification waiting in the black: "CONGRATULATIONS: TITLE EARNED - 'GIANT SLAYER.'"

Ben woke in a hospital room three days later, sunlight streaming through windows that seemed too bright for his concussed brain to process. His left arm was in a cast, his ribs wrapped, and IV lines ran into his right arm. But he was alive.
Beside his bed, Tony slumped in a chair, asleep in wrinkled clothes, one hand resting near Ben's uninjured fingers. The Mark III was visible through the window, damaged and parked on the hospital roof like a guardian angel.
Ben's System interface appeared, softer than usual, almost gentle: "RECOVERY MODE ACTIVE. DISPLAYING EARNED REWARDS UPON FULL CONSCIOUSNESS. REST, USER. YOU HAVE EARNED IT."
For once, Ben didn't argue with the System. He closed his eyes, feeling safe despite the pain, and let sleep reclaim him.
Outside the room, Pepper talked quietly with Agent Coulson, their voices carrying the weight of decisions that would shape the future.
"He's ten years old and he took down a weapons platform that our people couldn't stop. What does that make him?"
Coulson's response was measured, professional, and ominous: "That makes him someone we need to watch very, very carefully. For his protection as much as anyone else's."
The age of heroes had begun, and Ben Parker-Stark had claimed his place among them. But with great power came great attention, and the world was starting to notice the small boy who fought giants and won.
