Lyric knew that whatever he said to Soren now was meaningless.
Not only because Soren was unconscious and unable to hear him but also because everything had come far too late. Too late for apologies and far too late for regret.
Only now did Lyric begin to realize just how cruel he had truly been.
For as long as he could remember, the bitterness he and his family carried toward commoners had always felt justified.
After all, it had been commoners who were responsible for the tragedy that shattered the Davenmore family. Their parents had died because of them and Torin's death had only carved that wound deeper, leaving scars that never truly faded. Because of that, hatred had quietly rooted itself inside Lyric's heart over the years until it became something so natural that he never thought to question it.
Yet now, as he sat beside the bed and looked at Soren's pale, unmoving face, Lyric could no longer convince himself that his actions had been reasonable.
