Chapter 12 - The Day After (6)

Time passes by and soon it was already late noon.

Using the notebook which miraculously survived the wraith attack, I made notes about all seven of my clients using the information in the file.

Bram also just arrived along with Hugo and Litch.

Upon seeing them, I stood up from my seat and greeted them.

"Good evening Bram and... Sorry I don't know your names yet."

The skinny man standing to the right of Bram then spoke.

"Hugo Parker, pleasant to meet you."

He spoke in a monotone voice, contrary to his words.

"Tsk, you say you want to join us, but you don't even know our names?"

The man dressed in a good-quality suit cut in, criticizing me.

'One doesn't seem to have any opinion, and the other doesn't like me... Great start!'

I forced myself to smile and politely asked him for his name.

"Call me Litch."

"That's it?"

I spoke out of surprise.

"What! You got a problem about it--"

"Enough Litch."

Cutting off Litch, Bram breathed out a small sigh.

"Don't mind him Amon, both Hugo and I also don't know his real name. Just refer to this delusional guy as Litch and don't think too much about it."

'So it is not his real name huh?'

I looked at Litch, giving him a small smirk.

"So, am I allowed to join you all in hunting supernatural monsters?"

"Well, we talked it over and as long as you do some training you will fit in right with us."

Hearing his words, I instantly lit up.

'Yes!'

But then, I thought about what Mr. Carrow said about the jobs they usually take part in, and I decided to clarify with them about which part I would be joining them in.

"Ahem, but to clarify, when I said I wanted to join you all I meant that I wanted to help work on supernatural cases only."

Litch in the back looked like he was about to say something but was stopped by Bram.

"I figured. Anyway, it looks like you have got quite a bit on your plate, kid."

He looked down at the stack of files next to me, giving me a pat on the shoulder.

"Well then, I will be talking to the boss. Get acquainted with Hugo and Litch, kid."

After saying that, he headed up to the second floor towards Carrow's office.

As soon as he left, Litch opened his mouth trying to take a jab at me.

"Hmph you think we will really accept you, just--"

"Here take this, if you are really going to join us for those types of missions, you got to at least know the basics about using a gun."

Once again, Litch was cut off this time by Hugo, who handed me a revolver and a small paper box.

"Don't I need a license to own a gun?"

Hesitant to take the gun from Hugo's hands, I questioned the legality of the matter.

'What is the point of handing me this anyway, I don't really know how to use one.'

During the wraith attack I was lucky that I didn't accidentally shoot Victor or hurt myself. I remembered how when I first shot it I could not handle the recoil and the gun flipped upwards.

"About that, Bram is talking to Thomas to get that sorted out now. Also I will be teaching you how to shoot a gun. Every Sunday, three in the afternoon, meet me at the local police station. With Thomas's authority we will be able to use their firing range."

'Sunday huh? That is in two days from now.'

"I see, I look forward to receiving your knowledge."

With a smile, I reached forward, picking up the revolver and the suspiciously heavy paper box. Opening it up, as expected, it was filled with bullets: some made of silver, some made of pure iron, and some with engravings all over them.

'I never got a close look at the bullets that they used the other day, but these bullets really are special aren't they.'

"By the way, I presume these are special bullets meant to harm certain types of supernatural monsters right?"

With a nod, Hugo confirmed my words.

"The silver is used for Wraiths, pure iron for ghosts, and the bullets with engravings are for zombies."

I identified the bullets, making sure to remember what each one looked like before closing the paper box and putting it into my coat pocket.

"Also, these special bullets and the charms you use are they made by Mr. Carrow?"

At my words Hugo showed a slightly surprised face, a rare occurrence, while Litch had his thoughts clearly plastered all over him. Looking at their expressions was all I needed I knew I was right.

'The charms they used contained the same power as Mr. Carrow, and since he can use those powers without a medium, he most likely was the one who made them.'

"Yes, Thomas does supply us with that equipment."

'Supply huh? Do they know about his abilities or not?'

Due to Hugo's choice of words, I was left to wonder whether they knew the full extent of Mr. Carrow's abilities.

I thought about a way to test this by asking him a question.

"Do you know how they were made?"

"No, I don't. Maybe Bram does but not me."

Hugo hesitated for a moment before answering my question.

'Maybe he does know but doesn't know I know, and he is also under the oath...'

Though I thought about this theory, I did not act on it as it was irrelevant in the end. I already know most of Carrow's abilities, I think, and the information I need to know from them does not concern him.

"Enough Hugo, it is my turn to speak to him now."

Stepping in front of Hugo, Litch stood right next to me, puffing out his non-existent chest.

"Since you just joined us you are my junior in a sense, so by seniority you should call me Sir. Sir Litch."

'...'

I was left speechless by his words. He was acting so over the top, like a character out of a play he didn't seem like a real person.

'What is this guy's deal? And me calling him Sir, hah! In a million years at most he looks like he is even younger than me.'

"I think not Litch. In fact, since I am more educated than you, maybe you should be the one calling me Sir."

"What did you just say?!"

Litch then leaned forward, putting his face right in front of mine.

"I said, I am not like you who doesn't have a degree and can only do manual labour to earn money."

At this point, he seemed like he was going to explode, his face turning completely red.

"I will show you!"

"Oh Mr. Hugo and Mr. Litch, you are here?"

Just as Litch was about to grab my collar, Emily walked out of the break room.

"Hmm? What are you doing with Mr. Amon, Mr. Litch?"

Her eyes widened in curiosity as she moved closer to us.

"Oh nothing, I was just talking to him haha..."

'What?'

Completely out of my expectation, Litch did a 180 and changed his expression immediately, showing a bright warm smile while greeting Emily.

Now facing away from me, I watched as he fiddled with his hands behind his back, becoming slightly jittery.

'Oh, I see. Hah.'

After realising, I wore a sly grin looking at both him and Emily.

"Oh Emily, you are acquainted with Litch?"

Standing up, I hooked my arm around Litch's shoulder. He tried to resist, but I pulled him in closer.

"What do you think you are doing."

Gritting his teeth, Litch softly muttered to me, rage clearly evident in his voice.

"Nothing much, I just notice a budding love story between two young people."

"You!!!"

"Considering you are trying to act nice around her, I presume that she doesn't know that you are actually an ass right? In that case play along if you don't want her finding out."

I then patted him hard on the back, causing him to jump forward a little.

Emily, though sensing that something was a bit off about us, ignored it and tilted her head to the left a little before answering my question.

"Yes, he frequently comes here during his free time to play games with me and the rest of the staff."

"Hah, I see."

I tried my best to control my expression as I was almost unable to hold back my laughter.

'It is so obvious that he was trying to get her attention all those times. Hahahaha.'

Seeing this side to Litch, my opinion of his changed a little. At first I thought of him as some foul-tempered brat, but now he is still a foul-tempered brat but with a little hint of cuteness in him.

"I'm done talking to the boss. Kid, I already worked out your gun licence and you should receive it the next time you visit the police station as long as you confirm your identity."

To my right, I saw Bram walking down the stairs. At first he gave us a weird look, spotting the situation, but then continued walking.

"Thank you Bram."

"No problem. If there is nothing else, Hugo, Litch, let's head back to the bar."

"But I still--"

"Enough, it is getting late. Let's head back before it is night."

Obeying Bram's command, Litch sadly said his goodbyes to Emily, leaving with Hugo and Bram.

"I should get going too, goodbye Ms. Emily."

"Goodbye to you too Mr. Amon."

By the time I got back home, it was already sundown.

I opened the door and in the living room, I saw my mother.

"Oh Amon! Where have you been?!"

My mother instantly ran up to me, hugging me and guiding me to sit with her at the table.

'Right... I haven't been home in a day. My mother should be scared to death.'

Pulling down my right sleeve, making sure the scar from the wraith's bite wasn't seen, I sat next to my mother and began to give her a plausible explanation.

I told her how I went to visit the University and talked to the headmaster, after that I went to a cake shop and to the bar I was found. At each stop I slowly regained more and more of my memories, and that I remember everything now.

"So the accident that caused this whole mess was because I got drunk and hit my head when exiting the bar."

"Ah Amon, why are you so careless?"

Though she seemed to scold me, her tone had a hint of relief at the fact that I remember everything now.

"Oh right, I will be continuing my job as a psychiatrist so I will be heading out the next few days."

She nodded, giving me her approval before she went into the kitchen, bringing out many dishes and telling me to eat up.

I gladly savored every bite of her cooking and soon retired back to my room.

I laid down on my bed face down, feeling the consequence of my actions yesterday.

'My whole body aches... I should go and apologise to Victor tomorrow but the bar in the physical world that overlaps with the Braveheart Bar… The problem is that it is so far...'

Thinking about my schedule tomorrow as I closed my eyes, I planned to visit one of my patients first on the way before reaching the bar.

'What a long day this has been...'
