Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Mutated Zombie

Danger. The moment the door was smashed open, Inaba Tsukiyo felt a dangerous presence rush out from inside.

She retreated a few steps without a trace, creating distance between herself and the man, while simultaneously using Magic Power Release to strengthen herself, preventing any unexpected situations.

The man didn't realize the danger was approaching and wasn't too surprised that the door had been broken.

"Are you hungry? I suppose so, I haven't fed it anything today. It's only natural for it to want to eat."

Initially, when this man planned to research this special zombie, just a tiny bit of meat was enough.

However, in just a few days, this zombie's appetite grew larger and larger. Later, to satisfy its needs, he didn't hesitate to deceive other survivors in the school, making them its food.

After the smoke dissipated, what appeared in the room was unlike ordinary zombies. This was a special zombie on all fours, with its skin completely shed and its flesh fully exposed.

This was the first time Inaba Tsukiyo had seen such a type, or rather, this type of zombie had never appeared before.

The zombies wandering outside were basically slow-moving and acted according to their own consciousness.

However, this zombie was different from those outside. Even Inaba Tsukiyo could feel a sense of crisis from it.

What also concerned Inaba Tsukiyo was that this zombie's body actually reacted with the energy inside her, which was not a good sign.

"Although I find it strange why you have such great strength, this is good too. Let me see what limits your power can reach. As long as I can research a vaccine from you, I can become a hero of humanity. If I can find a way to evolve humanity from you, then my name will be recorded in history."

There were many secrets worth exploring about zombies, but some secrets humans simply shouldn't understand. Even if zombies truly had something that surpassed humans, it shouldn't be understood.

The more one knew, the faster one's own destruction would be.

Just as the man was about to order the zombie to attack Inaba Tsukiyo, this zombie made a puzzling move.

The zombie first glanced at Inaba Tsukiyo, shook its eyeless head twice, then pushed off with its legs and pounced towards the man.

Completely unprepared for this situation, the man was easily knocked to the ground, his flesh torn, and the zombie's huge claws constantly slicing into his body.

The man's screams gradually softened, his struggles slowly ceased, and finally, his hands fell heavily to the ground, losing all signs of life.

It was unexpected that the zombie this guy had raised would become the culprit that ended his sinful life, or rather, his fate was sealed from the very beginning.

Inaba Tsukiyo watched the zombie, which was sprawled on the man, vigilantly, her mind pondering how to deal with this troublesome guy.

As long as she dealt with this zombie, she could recover the energy from its body, but was it really that simple?

After enjoying the man's flesh, the zombie slowly turned to look at Inaba Tsukiyo, walking towards her little by little.

Inaba Tsukiyo, who had initially expected the zombie to attack and was preparing to launch her own attack, found that this guy had no intention of attacking at all. After it came close to Inaba Tsukiyo, it kept sniffing her with its nose.

This feeling was as if it had found a kindred spirit, but it was strange why Inaba Tsukiyo had a different scent from itself.

Inaba Tsukiyo, of course, could not have been infected with the zombie virus. She was a true human, a fact that was true both in the past and now.

However, the behavior of this special zombie left Inaba Tsukiyo a bit baffled. Although she couldn't figure it out, Inaba Tsukiyo felt that it must be related to some commonality between them.

That's right, their only commonality was that special energy. The difference was that Inaba Tsukiyo became as she was now with the help of that power, while this zombie became a completely different species from other zombies under that energy.

But even if this zombie wouldn't attack her, what then? Judging by its actions just now, it would definitely go and attack other humans.

Its existence is just a destabilizing factor; if it leaves here, it will only make an already terrible situation worse.

"I absolutely cannot let it leave here alive."

Now that it has broken free, it's only a matter of time before it leaves Nishikowa Elementary School.

Having made up her mind, Inaba Tsukiyo attacked without hesitation, drawing her sword, ready to sever the zombie's head.

However, the next scene caught Inaba Tsukiyo off guard.

The first strike of Un'yō, known as the invisible demonic sword, was actually dodged!

No, it wasn't completely dodged; only the fatal blow was avoided, and the arm still sustained some damage.

It's unclear whether it instinctively dodged the attack or sensed danger, but its ability to evade that strike proves its dangerousness.

After less than a second of distraction, Inaba Tsukiyo reacted; she didn't have time for a lapse in focus now.

After dodging the attack, the pain from its injured arm caused the zombie to let out a piercing roar at Inaba Tsukiyo, and it no longer hesitated, launching an attack on her.

"So fast!"

This zombie moved at an incredibly fast pace along the classroom walls and ceiling. Because it walked on all fours, its speed was exceptionally high.

Swoosh!

With a claw tearing through the air, accompanied by a lunging strike, the zombie unhesitatingly clawed at Inaba Tsukiyo.

Slightly lowering herself, Inaba Tsukiyo's petite figure dodged the zombie's pounce. As she evaded the attack, Inaba Tsukiyo turned slightly, and her mikazuki munechika moved with her action, slicing through the zombie's flesh.

It was a successful attack; the zombie's abdomen was almost completely severed, blood flowed out, and the zombie let out a piercing cry of pain.

This pain seemed to make the zombie lose its composure, and its subsequent attacks became even faster and more ferocious.

Facing the zombie's onslaught, Inaba Tsukiyo was on the defensive. To avoid injury, Inaba Tsukiyo had to prevent the zombie from hitting her.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Claws and blades collided. The blade, which should have cut through the claws, had no effect, as if the claws were made of steel.

Inaba Tsukiyo continuously increased her Magic Power Release, constantly enhancing her physical abilities and the sharpness of her weapon.

She didn't believe this zombie could be so difficult to deal with. Even if she was constantly on the defensive, she was sure she could seize that one fleeting opportunity.

In less than a second, she could decide the outcome of this battle.

As they fought, the classroom's facilities were almost completely destroyed. Walls and windows were shattered. Inaba Tsukiyo stood by the window, needing to prevent the zombie from escaping through it.

Inaba Tsukiyo was panting heavily. While Magic Power Release could enhance her combat strength, it also accelerated her physical exhaustion, which was not a good sign.

However, this zombie's stamina wasn't limitless either. While Inaba Tsukiyo was panting, the creature was also constantly panting, appearing to have expended a great deal of energy.

"Roar! Roar! Roar!!!!"

Suddenly, the zombie roared, and its body began to move rapidly across the walls, ceiling, and floor.

With its movements, its speed became faster and faster, reaching an almost unbelievable degree.

Though unseen, Inaba Tsukiyo's open eyes constantly followed the zombie's movements.

Even if her naked eye couldn't capture the zombie's speed, Inaba Tsukiyo no longer relied on her eyes to track human movements.

She couldn't let thought slow down her actions. She converted her movements into scattering attacks, striving for any tiny advantage, because these small details could determine the outcome of the battle.

Thud!

The zombie's four limbs shattered the ceiling as it launched a fatal attack on Inaba Tsukiyo.

If it were an ordinary person, they might not even have time to react to such an attack and would be instantly killed.

However, Inaba Tsukiyo was no ordinary person.

Shukuchi

If the zombie could move so quickly, did Inaba Tsukiyo not have a fast way to move?

Having dodged the attack, Inaba Tsukiyo quickly raised her mikazuki munechika high in her right hand, opened her eyes, and unleashed her aura without any reservation.

Pill Self-Manifestation Style Right Dragonfly

The stance of Right Dragonfly was Narukami Koharu's strongest attack prelude and her secret technique, just like Inaba Tsukiyo's Instant Flash, it was a one-hit kill skill.

Boom!

Suddenly, others in Nishikowa Elementary School heard a clap of thunder, but strangely, there was no sign of a thunderstorm in the weather.

Inaba Tsukiyo's Instant Flash could unleash three slashes in an instant, which was a fatal attack against humans, but it was different when facing this monster.

Although Instant Flash had speed, what Inaba Tsukiyo needed was an attack with both power and speed. While different from her primary move, this technique not only achieved extreme speed but also possessed astonishing power.

Cloud Radiance: Swift Thunder

Unlike before, if completely used as a means of attack against a person, the destructive power of Swift Thunder could reach terrifying levels.

Even without physical contact, merely the collision of weapons, even if Inaba Tsukiyo used a bamboo sword, could completely destroy the opponent's weapon.

Furthermore, after the weapon was destroyed, the person holding it would be completely unable to stand, as if experiencing full-body paralysis from an electric shock.

It struck the zombie's head fiercely, even cutting off a portion of its skull. The zombie, having lost part of its head, collapsed powerlessly to the ground.

"Phew... Is it finally over? That was really... exhausting."

Wiping the cold sweat from her forehead, it was Inaba Tsukiyo's first time engaging in such a high-intensity battle while enhanced by magic power.

Fortunately, she won this time, otherwise, she wouldn't know what to do.

"I'll go back and find Yuri. They should have calmed down by now. Let's stay here for a day, hold a funeral for the Headmaster, and then leave."

She sheathed her mikazuki munechika, Inaba Tsukiyo prepared to leave the room to find Wakasa Yuri.

However, Inaba Tsukiyo didn't notice that despite defeating the zombie, no energy flowed into her body, and the fallen zombie's body suddenly twitched.

"Roar! Roar! Roar!!!"

The seemingly lifeless zombie suddenly surged forward, pouncing on the unsuspecting Inaba Tsukiyo from behind, launching a fatal attack.

Bang!
