Chapter 35: The Arrival of Nezumi
Goa Kingdom, port.
A Marine warship slowly docked.
At its head was a man with a rat-like mustache and a vulgar appearance.
It was the Captain of the 16th Branch of the Marines, Nezumi.
He hefted the heavy suitcase in his arms, his mouth splitting into a greedy arc.
Five million Beri!
He could get this huge sum just for going to the Gray Terminal and dealing with a few kids and an unknown guy!
The Outlook family was truly generous!
"Men! Look sharp!"
Nezumi yelled at the lazy Marines behind him.
"We have strict orders from above! A group of vicious criminals is hiding on Mt. Colubo! Our mission this time is to represent justice and completely eliminate them!"
He announced this righteously, as if he himself were the embodiment of justice.
"The target is on Mt. Colubo! Now! All units, move out!"
Nezumi waved his hand, full of vigor, and led his troops in a grand procession toward Foosha Village.
In his mind, this was a free vacation, with a huge bonus of merit and wealth.
A few brats in the mountains. What trouble could they possibly cause?
However, as his team passed through Foosha Village and was about to enter the forest path to Mt. Colubo.
A tall figure, without any warning, blocked the middle of the road.
It was an old man in a floral shirt and a dog-head hood, picking his nose without any regard for his image.
"Hey! Old man in the front! Get lost! Can't you see the Marines are on official business?!"
Nezumi yelled impatiently. He just wanted to get this mission over with so he could go back and enjoy his wine and money.
One of the Marines behind him, the moment he saw the old man clearly, the color drained from his face.
His legs trembled, and he stumbled over to Nezumi's ear, shrieking in a voice as thin as a mosquito's.
"Cap... Captain Nezumi... th-th-that's..."
"The Marine Hero! 'The Fist' Vice Admiral Garp!!!"
"What?!"
Nezumi's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
He snapped his head up, carefully examining the old man picking his nose. His heart stopped.
It really is him!
The living legend! Marine Hero Garp!
The arrogance on Nezumi's face vanished instantly, replaced by extreme sycophancy and terror.
He rushed forward, bowed 90 degrees, and his voice was tinged with tears.
"V-V-Vice Admiral Garp! My deepest apologies! This lowly one failed to recognize you! I didn't know you were here!"
Garp slowly pulled his finger from his nostril, flicked it, and gave him an annoyed glance.
"Hm? Nezumi? What are you doing in the East Blue?"
"Reporting, Vice Admiral Garp! This lowly one was commissioned by the nobles of Goa Kingdom to eliminate a group of ruffians entrenched on Mt. Colubo!"
Nezumi straightened his back, trying to make himself look more reliable.
He thought that by mentioning the "noble's commission" and "eliminating ruffians," he would earn a bit of respect from the legendary Vice Admiral.
Who knew.
When Garp heard this, his expression instantly changed from "annoyed" to "extremely bored."
"Oh."
He yawned and waved his hand.
"More crap from those nobles... Fine, fine. Get out of my way. I have to go see my grandsons."
After speaking, Garp, as if shooing a fly, walked around the stunned Nezumi and strode toward Mt. Colubo.
Watching Garp's departing back, Nezumi, far from being disappointed, was ecstatic!
This was great news!
Marine Hero Garp is here! And his destination is also Mt. Colubo!
What does this mean?
It means his mission is a lock! It couldn't be more certain!
With this living legend on-site, forget ruffians. Even one of the Yonko would have to think twice!
"Hahaha! The heavens are smiling on me!"
Nezumi cackled inwardly.
He turned to his men, who were equally dumbfounded, and said in a low, smug voice:
"Did you all see that? Vice Admiral Garp is here! We're just here to pick up the credit! Look sharp! Maybe you'll even get to make an impression on the Vice Admiral!"
Hearing this, the Marines were also overjoyed.
In an instant, the entire unit's morale soared, as if they were about to capture a pile of walking commendations, not a group of criminals.
They completely failed to notice.
Not far away, at the stall named "Dungeon Shop."
A white-haired young man was leaning against the doorframe, holding a cup of hot tea, having taken in the whole scene.
Blake leaned against the doorframe, holding his lukewarm tea.
He looked at Nezumi's men.
They were all pumped up, their joy and excitement impossible to hide.
They looked as if tons of Beri, not commendations, were falling from the sky.
"Tsk."
Blake pouted, his gaze returning to the rat-faced captain.
That vulgar, rat-like mustache... it looked so familiar.
"Oh, I remember."
A strange look appeared in Blake's eyes.
Isn't this the Marine scumbag who was stationed in Nami's hometown, Cocoyasi Village, and was in cahoots with Arlong?
What's he doing here in Foosha Village?
Or...
A thought flashed through Blake's mind.
Has my appearance already sent this world's plot veering ten thousand miles off course?
"Whatever."
"He didn't come here specifically to die, did he?"
Blake shook his head, tossing the messy thoughts out.
Why think so much. Not my problem.
As long as I'm making money, it's fine.
He slowly drained the last of his tea, a warmth spreading through his stomach.
Meanwhile.
Dadan's house.
BOOM!!!
A loud crash!
The already rickety wooden door exploded into a cloud of splinters, shooting into the house!
"Dadan!! I'm back!!"
A powerful, resonant voice, accompanied by a tall figure, appeared in the doorway.
Garp, wearing his floral shirt and dog-head hood, a signature goofy grin on his face, strode in.
"Garp! You bastard!!!"
The next second, an even more furious roar erupted from inside.
The burly bandit leader, Dadan, her hair a mess, leaped up from the floor. She waved a wine bottle, roaring at Garp.
"Are you trying to tear my house down?! You break something every time you come back! Pay for it, you bastard!!"
The other bandits in the house had long since shrunk into the corners, trembling.
Garp completely ignored Dadan's roar. He picked his nose, walked straight into the middle of the room, and sat down.
"Don't be so stingy, Dadan."
He looked around, frowning.
"Hm? Where are those brats Luffy and Ace?"
"Who the hell knows where they are!" Dadan was furious. "Ever since they started hanging out with that kid Sabo, they're never here! The three of them are eating me out of house and home!"
"Oh? Sabo?"
Garp paused, asking with great interest.
"There's another one? Hahaha! Just like my grandsons, always stirring up trouble!"
