Chapter 52 - Chapter 52 Test

Chris arrived in a town and checked into a motel.

He was completely naked at this point, except for an unknown material wristwatch.

However, Chris was already used to it; he had been naked several times since coming to this damn world.

So, as soon as he arrived in town, he found a laundry and picked up a suitable set of clothes.

Then he found a few hooligans who were causing trouble during the chaos and 'borrowed' some pocket money.

This town was at least a hundred kilometers from the meteorite crater, but even here, the massive dust cloud still hung over the town.

So, the hooligans, seeing an opportunity, naturally took advantage of the chaos to collect some valuables.

It was just their bad luck that they ran into... or rather, Chris found them.

Then the few ruffians quietly slept in the garbage dump, and Chris got a few dozen dollars in small change.

After checking in, Chris took a shower and began to recall what he had done since coming to this world.

Saving people, proselytizing, insurance fraud, or searching for others on the Death List?

Among these few things, Chris first ruled out the most suspicious one: searching for other Death List candidates.

Although he was targeted by Death when he was on his way to find Iris, Chris immediately dismissed this possibility.

Because if Iris truly had Death's weakness, then with that crazy woman's madness, she would definitely use it to save her descendants.

Even if she might not have the ability, as long as she contacted the national apparatus, Chris didn't believe that the Americans of this era couldn't dig three feet deep to find Death's weakness.

The year 2000 in America was the most ambitious period for this country; the old world hegemon had retreated to its small island, and its former rival had disarmed itself.

The phoenix across the ocean had just been reborn and hadn't yet gained the ability to spread its wings, and even its former allies had all joined its ranks.

It could be said that America at this time was truly invincible, looking around there was not even a single entity it could converse with.

If someone in control of such a country knew that there was such a thing as Death in this world, a special department called S.H.I.E.L.D. might just emerge.

At that time, let alone that this Death was merely an unknown life form with weak abilities, sloppy in its work, and very easy to exploit.

Even if it truly was the embodiment of death, the manifestation of the world's will, it might still be caught by the most powerful national apparatus of humanity today.

But since that crazy woman didn't do so, it means she really had no information about Death.

At most, it was just the survival experience she had accumulated over so many years.

That's why Chris, thinking of these things, gave up on finding her, because finding her might not be useful.

Just like how she used her life to leave a warning for her descendants, yet those family members still died out completely.

And if the most likely thing to make Death fear was not that it was afraid of him finding Iris, then the other things were easier to determine.

Saving people might have disrupted its list, causing its workload to skyrocket, which made it furious and want to deal with him.

Proselytizing might be because he altered its name, disturbing its collection of faith.

As for using it for insurance fraud, that might be because he insulted it, which made it angry and embarrassed.

After all, in the entire Final Destination series, there are many who verbally mock Death, constantly provoking it.

And those people all met exceptionally tragic ends.

This indicates that Death indeed has its own petty emotions and is particularly narrow-minded.

However, counting these three points, Chris found that saving people and insurance fraud wouldn't make Death afraid; saving people would at most make it anxious.

Only his haphazard proselytizing truly had the potential to destroy the foundation of a deity of incense and faith, which would make these faith-dependent deities afraid.

After sorting out the possible impacts of his various actions on Death, Chris decided to test it to determine which event made it want to kill him so quickly.

Because this town had a sparse population and incomplete financial services, insurance fraud was out of the question.

As for proselytizing, it required the right time, place, and people; the bar incident at that time was simply too coincidental.

Chris also wasn't confident he could fool a group of people again at this time, so he temporarily put that aside, planning to check on his followers directly when he returned to the city.

Therefore, after much deliberation, the only option that could be immediately executed was saving people.

Having decided on his approach, Chris walked out of the motel.

The current chaotic environment indeed made it convenient for Chris to verify his theory.

He went directly to the side of the road and watched the passing vehicles.

In the current harsh environment where sandstorms obscure vision, even cautious East Asians driving are extremely prone to problems, let alone these rude and careless Anglo-Saxons.

Especially since these guys live in a horror movie world, influenced by certain unknown rules, accidents are even more likely to occur.

Chris had just arrived by the roadside when he heard the roar of a motorcycle; judging by the sound, this person was traveling at least ninety kilometers per hour.

He had recently ridden a motorcycle and was particularly familiar with the sounds of motorcycles at different speeds.

Chris looked at the surrounding environment; even with his eyesight, he could only see about two hundred meters away, and ordinary people, even with goggles to block the sand, could at most see only tens of meters.

And with the reaction speed of ordinary people, with only tens of meters of reaction time, if a problem occurred, they would absolutely not be able to react in time.

Listening to the sound getting closer, Chris was ready to run.

Unexpectedly, with a bang, before the person even came into his line of sight, Chris heard the sound of the motorcycle crashing.

Realizing something was wrong, Chris ran quickly in the direction of the motorcycle; after a few seconds of running at supersonic speed, Chris just happened to see the motorcyclist who had been thrown off.

Seeing that this person was still wearing a helmet, Chris quickly slowed down to prevent the air current he generated from causing secondary injury to the person.

Arriving in front of the person, Chris gently tore, and the scratched motorcycle helmet was violently ripped open.

Then Chris saw the person bleeding from all seven orifices, clearly breathing more out than in, on the verge of death.

Seeing this situation, Chris twisted open a bottle of the dragon blood beverage he carried with him and poured it into the person.

With half a bottle of the beverage in their mouth, the person's breathing immediately became steady.

Then Chris carefully sensed the premonition in his heart, and sure enough, after the person's life was saved, a faint sense of malice began to grow.

However, the increase was not much, only about one percent of the original.

"Saving a life only increases its malice towards me by this much?"

Chris stood up, pondering the cause and effect.

What exactly is Death's hate mechanism?
