As the first week passed, Zimo was able to do all the work up to set standard. Even Mr. Li praised him. But someone wasn't happy.
Gu Yuxuan decided to work from home the following Monday. He had a zoom call early in the morning with some investors.
After finishing nearly two hours later, he packed his gym back. Threw on knee-long black shorts and a dark grey t-shirt and went down with the elevator.
The driver held the vehicle's door open and he got in. Just a block away, he got out and entered the gym.
His usual gym routine starts on the thread mill. After ten minutes, he started working on his arms. Lifting the heavy weights with small breaks in between.
"Yuxuan!" A lady called his name while he drank water.
"Yuxuan, I haven't seen you in a while." Lina said. A tall and beautiful girl. Her long wavy hair tied in a ponytail.
"Long time no see", Gu Yuxuan said, continuing to pack his things into the bag.
"Are you in a hurry? Let's go drink something." Lina said.
"I still have to get back to work."
"You're always working. Why not take a rest. You're the owner after all." Lina said, searching for his eyes.
"See you." Gu Yuxuan said and walked past her.
Lina's face dropped as she watched him walk out and get into the car.
Time on Gu Yuxuan's watch showed 12 pm.
After driving back, he got out at the complex entrance and walked in, but was stopped by the receptionist.
"Sir, someone was looking for you." She
said. "You told us not to let anyone enter, so we didn't dare do it."
"Who?" He asked.
"He said he's your bodyguard."
Gu Yuxuan's face instantly changed from irritation to annoyance. Same expression but a deeper feeling.
"Mr Li said I would find you here." Zimo said, standing behind him.
"What do you want?" Gu Yuxuan asked without turning around.
Zimo walked to his front. "There's so much I wanted to discuss with you today but who knew you wouldn't show up. I had no choice but to come and find you."
"What's so important that it couldn't wait?"
"Your business, of course." Zimo said, almost surprised by the question.
"I'm busy. Go back to work."
"Are you avoiding me?" Zimo asked.
"What makes you so special that I'll do the effort to avoid you?"
"I was just asking. Why are you so defensive?"
Gu Yuxuan walked past him.
"I just want a few minutes of your time." Zimo said
"Come upstairs with me", Gu Yuxuan said, swallowing his pride for that moment, but then it got shattered instead by Zimo's question, "Is that appropriate?"
Gu Yuxuan's gaze slowly turned to him. "What do you mean?" He asked.
"Nothing", Zimo smiled. "Let's go."
The long ride to the penthouse was quiet. Even each other's breathing was heard. Zimo stood slightly behind Gu Yuxuan, watching the numbers display each time they passed a floor.
When they stopped and the elevator opened, Zimo's eyes immediately widened. He didn't expect that the place would be that huge.
Gu Yuxuan turned to him, saying, "I'll change first. You can take a seat."
Zimo nodded. He walked into the living room as Gu Yuxuan went upstairs. Smirking in a way that he knew Gu Yuxuan was really a billionaire. Even though he didn't live in a mansion, this was far better than anything.
Gu Yuxuan changed into another casual outfit and went to sit opposite Zimo on the couch. Sitting with his back straight, right foot on his left leg, demonstrating dominance, he said, "I'm listening".
Zimo smiled. He took out his laptop from his bag and opened the tab that displayed a statistical diagram. He passed it to Gu Yuxuan on the table.
"After following all your guidance and Mr Li's training, I still had to do my own research. Understanding your company's background will help me assist you better. Also, because I need something strong to convince you that I'll be a great aide."
"You actually found out about these in less than two weeks. Not bad." Gu Yuxuan said, sliding the laptop back to him.
Zimo briefly raised his eyebrows with a smile. "You already know about this. You're the CEO after all. But I would like to ask why these uneven numbers occur? I might find a solution."
"Six years ago, the company was bankrupt", Gu Yuxuan said without hesitation.
This made Zimo really interested.
"The wealthy Mr Gu actually went bankrupt?" No way, so in six years he made millions again?" Zimo thought.
"Then the negative numbers…?" He started.
"Negative numbers? If you want to find a solution, figure it out then." Gu Yuxuan said.
"Well… sir… won't it be easier if you just told me?"
Gu Yuxuan stood up and went to the kitchen and came back with a glass of juice. Zimo's quiet gaze followed his every move.
"If you are able to decode it, I might just give you an actual chance." Gu Yuxuan said as he sat down.
"I know you haven't really accepted me", Zimo said.
"Why would I?"
"Right." Zimo smiled, scratching his head. "I'm just a stranger to you now. But you gave me this job after all, so why not try to get to know me?"
Gu Yuxuan leaned back, staring at him.
"Even if you don't want to…", Zimo started, tilting his head slightly. "Eventually you'll get to know me better than you've ever known anyone."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Gu Yuxuan asked, leaning forward.
"Let me decode your words and gain your trust."
