Chapter 23 - With so many women, how could he possibly manage...

Columbia turned to him, her adoring gaze threatening to devour him whole.

"For me, any place with you is the place I want to be," she said, her voice filled with devotion.

Li Youyue paused, momentarily stunned by her impassioned words.

He had caught a glimpse of the wine-red eyes beneath Columbia's white blindfold.

*What breathtakingly beautiful eyes.*

Crystal-clear, soul-stirring, and utterly captivating.

Yes, Columbia had removed her blindfold.

The perfect flaw had been compensated for, revealed in its most exquisite form before Li Youyue's eyes.

"Um... Youyue..."

Columbia seemed incredibly nervous, as she always did in the presence of the man she loved most.

"Do you think my eyes are pretty?"

"Pretty... more beautiful than any flower."

Li Youyue stared, mesmerized, into Columbia's abyss-like pupils.

"They're so stunning it's unreal. They keep drawing me in, making it impossible to look away."

He raised his hand to touch her cheek, but hesitated and withdrew it halfway.

"I don't understand. If your eyes are this beautiful, why do you keep them hidden behind a blindfold?"

Columbia replaced her white blindfold.

"These eyes are my power."

"When ordinary people look into them, they become entranced, and their lives fall under my control."

"But you're different, Youyue. You're not ordinary..."

Columbia released Li Youyue's hand and quickly stepped in front of him, blocking his path.

"In my eyes, you're the person I love, completely and utterly. That's why my power has no effect on you."

"Even on gods?" Li Youyue asked, somewhat incredulous at the extent of Columbia's power.

If she wanted, she could control anyone, as long as they looked into her eyes.

"Yes..." Columbia replied, then playfully threw herself into Li Youyue's arms like a child.

"So... if Lord Youyue desires a woman, I can bring her to you for you to devour."

"Of course, it would make Columbia much happier if Lord Youyue devoured me first..."

"That would make Columbia very happy..."

"!!" Li Youyue was taken aback.

*Truly terrifying,* he thought. *Such a terrifying power, yet she speaks of it as if it were useless.*

He wondered how she would fare against Tenri Miki, the Heavenly Principles.

"So, you could control me then?"

Columbia tilted her head, her expression puzzled. "Why do you say that?"

"I thought you might try to control me and make me do something strange," Li Youyue said, then added, "That would definitely be the best..."

Columbia fixed her gaze on Li Youyue's reaction. "Lord Youyue, would you expect me to do something like that?"

"Well... um..." Li Youyue's face flushed crimson. Even this seasoned man couldn't withstand such a pure-hearted question from the young woman.

"Deep down, I'd naturally be hoping for it..."

"After all, you're so cute and beautiful. Who wouldn't like you?"

"Mmm..."

Columbia suddenly stood on tiptoe and kissed Li Youyue on the lips.

Li Youyue stiffened momentarily, then relaxed, savoring the fragrant warmth of her lips and teeth.

*So sweet... so soft... so fragrant.*

The girl's rosy lips left an unforgettable aftertaste.

*Mmm... mmm... mmm...*

Though few pedestrians were around, the sight of this golden couple kissing drew curious glances from passersby.

*Mmm...*

After a long moment, their lips parted.

Columbia reluctantly pulled away from Li Youyue's lips. "Are you nervous?"

"You saw through me..."

To be honest, Li Youyue was indeed a little afraid of Columbia.

She might seem normal on the surface, but deep down, she was a complete madwoman. Don't ask Li Youyue how he knew.

"Do you... still fear me?" Columbia asked.

Li Youyue, recalling how he used to avoid her in Snezhnaya, replied, "It's not exactly fear. It's just that I'm getting older and don't have the same energy as when I was younger."

"But you haven't aged a day. Time is just a string of numbers to us..." Columbia murmured, stroking Li Youyue's slender face.

"Humans... we all change eventually. Even gods are no exception..." Li Youyue said, his voice tinged with hesitation.

He no longer wanted to dwell on the unbearable memories of the past. It was all gone, gone.

Columbia cupped Li Youyue's other cheek. "Do you... no longer feel joy?"

"Don't you feel happy with me?"

"I'm very happy. What about you...?"

As Columbia spoke, Li Youyue sensed something increasingly unsettling about her words. He glanced around, then scooped her up and teleported them to the wilderness outside Sumeru City.

After landing on a deserted cliff, Li Youyue set Columbia down.

Columbia released Li Youyue and gazed up at the sky.

"The moon is so beautiful tonight..."

The moonlight bathed Columbia's delicate features, imbuing her with an ethereal glow.

Pure Goodness Palace.

Shortly after Li Youyue and Columbia left.

Venus led Buer to the balcony.

"What do you want? Why did you call me here?" Buer stood behind Venus, watching her cautiously. Being summoned alone could only mean trouble.

Venus, who had been leaning against the railing, straightened up and turned to face Buer. She strode toward her with an air of dominance, pressing Buer backward.

"You... what do you want...?" Buer retreated, flustered.

"We're both women. What are you afraid of? I'm not going to eat you." Venus leaned in close, her cheek brushing against Buer's delicate face as she scrutinized her. "My husband has good taste..."

Venus wrapped her arm around Buer's waist and stroked her cheek with her free hand. "Nice figure. Quite firm..."

"Venus, what exactly are you trying to do?" Buer asked, her face flushed as she pushed Venus away with some force.

Venus watched Buer's reaction to her casual teasing, thinking, *I thought she'd be tougher than this.*

"Fine, I won't tease you anymore," Venus said, releasing Buer and stepping aside. "I called you here to discuss a few things."

Buer straightened up, her guard fully raised. She'd thought Venus was going to... you know. Turns out she was just overthinking things.

"Go on," Buer said.

*Ice and grass don't seem to react to each other,* Venus observed.

Her gaze shifted to Buer's stomach. "Are you pregnant?"

"What does my pregnancy have to do with you?" Buer retorted.

"It's a personal matter," Venus explained.

"Alright, yes, I'm carrying his child. Ask whatever you want."

Buer crossed her arms, adopting a superior air. *So what if she's beautiful? So what if she's brilliant? So what if she's good at cards? None of that matters compared to the child in my womb. Motherhood is power, you know?*

"Um... what does pregnancy feel like?" Venus leaned in, her eyes wide with childlike curiosity.

"Well..." Buer hesitated.

Buer was deeply shocked by Venus's rapid transformation.

"Actually, I didn't feel much. It's just that a gap appeared in my abdomen, absorbing divine power... I think?"

Buer wasn't human in the true sense; she was a branch of the World Tree, so her sensations were naturally different from those of humans.

"When did this happen?" Venus pressed.

"A few months ago..."

Buer recalled that day.

She had woken up as usual, only to feel a churning in her abdomen, which then tore open a gap.

She had told Li Youyue that her stomach felt unwell, and he had taken her to see a physician.

The physician simply declared her pregnant. It was that simple.

"How long have you two been together?" Venus continued.

"How long have we been together? Could it be...?" Buer glanced at her, puzzled, then realized what she meant.

"We only started living together after we got married. That was... about five hundred years ago."

Five centuries. Their relationship had long settled into a quiet routine. Fortunately, fate had smiled upon them, allowing her to conceive a child.

"Five hundred years?!" Venus exclaimed, astonished.

"In all that time, you've only had one child?"

"What else would you expect?"

Buer remained composed, time having lost its meaning for her.

"Don't you know that Demon Gods rarely conceive?"

"In fact, it's almost impossible."

"We possess human emotions and bodies, but we're not truly human—we're just wolves in sheep's clothing."

She had long given up hope of having children, but she and Nab were fortunate enough to conceive.

The child's arrival finally brought some purpose to their lives, giving them a shared goal.

Buer was deeply grateful to Li Youyue for staying by her side for five centuries.

He loved her, cherished her, and indulged her every whim.

He had always treated her with utmost kindness, never criticizing her or allowing her to suffer any grievances or harm.

This was precisely why Buer tolerated Li Youyue's affairs.

She simply couldn't bring herself to be angry.

"I know it's nearly impossible for Demon Gods to have children..." Venus's voice gradually faded.

"Perhaps my icy constitution makes me unsuitable for childbirth..."

"We've been together for so long—at least a few thousand times—but my womb remains barren..."

"So I suspect I may never be able to conceive..."

Buer asked her, "Do you really want to be a mother?"

"After so long, it's just a natural desire," Venus replied, her expression tinged with melancholy.

She had dreamed of having a child, but no matter how hard she tried, it never happened.

Venus was confident in every other aspect of her life, but this one area filled her with self-doubt.

"Could you check the World Tree for information on Demon God reproduction?" she asked.

Buer quickly responded, "I'm sorry, the World Tree only records this one sentence: 'Demon Gods, born from the essence of heaven and earth, cannot conceive offspring. It is exceedingly difficult.'"

The meaning was clear: Demon Gods are born naturally, and conceiving offspring is nearly impossible.

"I understand..." Venus said, her hopes dwindling. All that remained was to leave it to fate. If all else failed, she could adopt.

"Don't worry too much," Buer reassured her. "I used to think the same way, but the Flower Goddess and I eventually conceived. She's from the Immortal Spirit Clan, which makes it even harder for her than for us. She even lost her power and physical body, yet she still conceived. It's a blessing from the heavens."

"Are you serious?"

Even the Flower Goddess is pregnant—Venus never expected that.

The Immortal Spirit Clan had always been cursed by the heavens, envied for their power. To fall in love meant losing all their strength and their immortal bodies.

"Then how did she survive?"

That was the question.

How had Nab, the Flower Goddess, managed to live after losing both her power and her physical form?

Buer's face darkened, her voice heavy with anguish. "My husband... he sustains her with a drop of his lifeblood every month. That's how she's survived until now."

Venus's pink lips parted slightly, her heart pounding with shock.

"Using a Demon God's blood to nourish life?"

"Something like that... but my husband isn't a Demon God, you know that, right?" Buer asked tentatively, then added, "Still, his constitution is far from ordinary. I don't even know what species he is."

"One thing's certain: he's not from this world. Like the Heavenly Principles and the Traveler, he's a Descender."

Venus nodded. "I know that. But... is my husband's body alright?"

"I don't know..."

Buer didn't know what would become of Li Youyue either, despite his assurances that there was nothing to worry about.

"He still seems quite healthy, judging by the women he brings home every day. You know Nilu, right? She just moved in yesterday. And there are a few younger women outside who have... ambiguous relationships with him."

Venus sighed. "He's truly obsessed with women, isn't he? Can't live without them, can he?"

"Are you going to do anything about him seeing so many women?" Buer demanded.

"..." Venus remained silent.

This was a difficult question. Li Youyue didn't belong to her alone, and she couldn't control his desires.

"Don't you think there's a reason he's seeking out so many women?" Buer pressed.

"!"

Venus suddenly remembered something.

"Perhaps you're right," she conceded.

Buer continued calmly, "We've been with Lord Youyue for so many years, yet he has no children, no emotional anchor. So he's turned his attention to other women. Even though some of them are practically throwing themselves at him, he accepts them all. If he finds them attractive, he takes them."

Her tone shifted.

"Among the Seven Gods, five were his consorts, not even counting Demon Gods like the Flower Goddess, none of whom had offspring. So he probably thought one wasn't enough. What about five, six, seven, eight, nine, or ten? Quantitative change might lead to qualitative transformation—perhaps things would improve."

"Fortunately, one of us five goddesses conceived, and another was a Demon God who had already transcended her demonic nature."

Venus murmured, a visible blush rising on her cheeks. "With so many women, how could he possibly manage...?"

"Hmph, that's his own problem. None of our concern," Buer chuckled softly.

"Speaking of which, aren't you still pushing women his way? What about Columbia?"

"That girl's a lunatic. I can't control her..." Venus admitted, visibly embarrassed.

Though Columbia outwardly showed Venus the utmost respect, the truth was...

*Snezhnaya, before Venus's departure.*

Columbia suddenly approached her.

"Columbia? What are you doing here? Don't you know this is my private chamber?" Venus was still packing her luggage on the bed.

"Does Her Majesty know where Lord Youyue is?" Columbia asked calmly.
