Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: A Slap Right Across the Face

The military training at Dongjiang University of Finance and Economics ended exactly one day earlier than the military training at Dongjiang Sport University.

Sunday morning was the grand drill, testing the results of this period's military training.

As soon as the drill concluded, Chen Pingjiang immediately sprang into action, distributing the pre-prepared woven bags and large plastic bags to everyone in dormitory 603 and several good friends from his class.

Chen Pingjiang didn't discuss money with this group at all; he just explained the situation, and these guys were even more excited than him.

Whether it was to join in the fun, show off, or simply help, each one was more enthusiastic than the last.

The entire Xianlin campus of the University of Finance and Economics was divided into several recycling points: the cafeteria, downstairs of male dorms 3 and 4, downstairs of female dorms, the snack street on campus, etc.

Chen Pingjiang took Zhao Shaoyang to sweep the buildings, while the task of sweeping the female dorms was given to their classmate Cui Jiali.

Although some students wanted to keep their military uniforms as a souvenir, most students chose to sell them, and the few points Chen Pingjiang had secured were all essential routes for freshmen.

After the drill, the first thing students naturally did was return to their dorms to change clothes.

The building sweep team that stayed in the dorms was responsible for door-to-door collection, while those planning to go out were filtered by the designated collection points.

In truth, if one person were to be responsible for sweeping one floor, the effect would definitely be better, and efficiency could also be guaranteed.

However, Chen Pingjiang didn't want to see crucial high-traffic areas taken by competitors, and furthermore, he didn't have that many people.

"Classmate, we're recycling old military uniforms, five yuan apiece. Military training is over, there's no use keeping them,"

Chen Pingjiang led the way, with Zhao Shaoyang following behind, knocking on doors of dorms one by one.

Zhao Shaoyang was purely there for the experience, hands in his pockets, doing absolutely nothing.

Some freshmen hesitated, unsure if the old military uniforms would be useful later, and five yuan did seem a bit too little.

Other freshmen didn't care; after all, keeping them would just mean throwing them in the trash later, so getting five yuan now was also good.

Chen Pingjiang worked quite fast, finishing one dorm within two minutes, collecting over a hundred sets in less than an hour, and sweeping the entire first floor.

There were also some uncooperative dorms; as soon as he entered, students impatiently shooed him out, or they were busy with their own things and ignored him.

Zhao Shaoyang, with his short temper, was about to pick a fight, but Chen Pingjiang just smiled, unaffected, and moved on to the next dorm.

"Old Dong, how are things?"

Chen Pingjiang asked, dropping off a woven bag full of clothes at a recycling point and lighting a cigarette.

Dong Tinghui said with a bit of excitement,

"It's not bad, it's only been less than an hour and we already have about fifty pieces. Oh, give me all your five-yuan change, I'm running low."

Chen Pingjiang nodded,

"Thanks for your hard work, I'll treat tonight."

He then counted the five-yuan bills in his satchel and handed them to Dong Tinghui.

Dong Tinghui pouted at his words,

"Damn it, last time when you were called away by the counselor during cards, you said we'd eat. You're not trying to combine two meals into one, are you?"

"Bullshit, am I that kind of person? Tonight's dinner, followed by KTV."

Chen Pingjiang showed no sign of embarrassment or social death from being exposed.

The two chatted for a few moments, then Chen Pingjiang hurried towards the second floor of building three.

As he reached the stairwell, he heard a commotion from the corridor on the second floor.

"Are freshmen so arrogant now? Coming to snatch business right after military training ends."

Zhao Shaoyang yelled,

"Is Dongcai yours or is this dorm yours? Besides, I was here first, damn it."

"Which department are you from, kid? What's your counselor's name?"

"Are we close? Stop damn prying."

When Chen Pingjiang arrived at dormitory 203, Zhao Shaoyang stood with his hands on his hips, looking tough, while two other boys on the opposite side had unpleasant, cocky expressions.

"What's going on?"

Seeing Chen Pingjiang approach, Zhao Shaoyang stepped back and began to complain,

"I was collecting perfectly fine, damn it, then these two jerks came in, talking rudely, acting all condescending. First they tried to use the student council to intimidate me, then they tried to find out who my counselor was, it was unbearable."

This was probably the other group collecting military uniforms that the boss of Zhisheng Garment Factory had mentioned.

These two were undoubtedly small fries.

Chen Pingjiang had asked Zhai Fei about them before, but Zhai Fei, being only a sophomore, wasn't very clear, only saying they were from the third-year student council.

Chen Pingjiang calmly said,

"How about this, two seniors, we haven't been to building four yet, let's each do our own thing."

Facing competitors, Chen Pingjiang couldn't give ground, let alone politely offer a cigarette; that would be a blow to Zhao Shaoyang's pride.

"Why not? We collected here last year too. Besides, building four has its own people, we're responsible for building three," one of the boys insisted.

"Freshmen should behave themselves when they first arrive at school, damn it..."

"Slap!"

Chen Pingjiang was cunningly waiting for the other side to swear, and without warning, he directly delivered a hard slap across the face.

The sophomore on the receiving end was completely stunned.

He thought, "How did the mood change so suddenly? Weren't we just politely discussing things?"

He absolutely did not expect a freshman to dare to strike directly.

After all, he himself had been a freshman, and at that time, he was very deferential to sophomores, especially those with student council identities, which was why he dared to flaunt his status here.

After realizing what happened, the sophomore was enraged,

"You're awesome, kid, don't you dare run!"

This was typical of arrogant cowards who wouldn't actually fight.

If they had encountered someone with a quick temper, they might have directly fought Chen Pingjiang, but these two were not those types.

After all, they were university students; truly aggressive ones were a minority, while being cowardly and loving to spout threats was common.

They tried to deal with problems from a student's perspective, wanting to intimidate others with authority, but Chen Pingjiang looked at problems from the perspective of an adult who had stepped into society.

Furthermore, he wasn't at all afraid of any disciplinary action.

The corridor was packed with onlookers, who were all stunned after Chen Pingjiang delivered the slap, thinking,

"This freshman is truly tough as hell, and these two sophomores are really damn cowardly."

"If you're going, hurry up and go, what are you babbling about?"

Zhao Shaoyang, with his brazen personality, loved watching a spectacle and wasn't afraid of things escalating.

Seeing Chen Pingjiang slap someone made him even more excited; with so many people watching, he was almost climaxing from showing off.

The two boys scurried away to report.

Perhaps because they were all freshmen like Chen Pingjiang, the boys who had gathered to watch, led by busybodies, applauded loudly.

Now Chen Pingjiang didn't even need to go door-to-door; the freshmen all went back to get their military uniforms and eagerly brought them to him.

"Brother Chen, I'm going back to the dorm to rally people."

Zhao Shaoyang had several ways of addressing Chen Pingjiang; usually he called him Old Chen, now Brother Chen, and when he got soaked, he'd call him a bastard.

Chen Pingjiang lit a cigarette and took a puff, shaking his head,

"We won't fight. We want to make money, they also want to make money. Fighting wastes too much time. Besides, aren't they from the student council? They probably won't call for backup, holding onto their status."

If the other party were sophomores from a sports academy, a fight would probably be unavoidable.

But not at a finance university; if things got out of hand, no one would be able to escape responsibility.

In a group fight, both sides are involved; no one cares who struck first, the key is that if you participated, you are also responsible.

In the end, everyone gets punished equally.

The problem was that Chen Pingjiang genuinely didn't care about any disciplinary action, and he even had the confidence to make the finance university revoke any punishment it issued.

The other side, however, might not.
