Chapter 25 - Exchanging Money

Yao Zhi didn't notice the young man's small movements and said, "Brother, you can weigh the grain and transfer it into your own sacks."

The young man hesitated for a moment before asking, "Young lady, may I ask if you're willing to sell this sack?"

"I'm sorry, my family still needs to use these sacks, so I can't sell them to you," Yao Zhi refused without hesitation.

These grain sacks were made from synthetic materials unavailable in this era. She didn't want to bring trouble to herself by selling them for a bit of money.

Seeing that she was unwilling, the young man didn't insist, though he felt disappointed. After weighing the grains, he started slicing the meat jerky.

Since it took a long time to prepare, Yao Zhi said, "I'll come back in two hours."

"Okay," the young man nodded.

After she left, the young man asked the neighboring stall owner for help. They came from the same tribe and often assisted each other. When they saw the amount of grain the young man had earned in the past two days, they were happy for him.

One of them laughed and joked, "Altan Yisu, it seems your family's effort in hunting wolves has paid off. With this amount of grain, your family won't have to worry about winter anymore."

Altan Yisu smiled at his words but said nothing.

He knew that when he returned, he had to give at least fifty jin of grain to the tribe leader. So even if he had obtained a lot of white rice, he planned to exchange it for coarse grain before leaving this border town.

While they were busy slicing the meat jerky, Yao Zhi was sitting at a roadside tea stall. She took out a steamed bun from her shop's warehouse, using her bamboo basket as cover. As she ate, the surrounding people kept glancing at her.

Although this town was one of the biggest on the border, it was still rare for commoners to have white rice or white flour. So, when they saw someone take out such a big white steamed bun, they couldn't help but take two more glances.

Thankfully, Yao Zhi was wearing a veiled hat, so besides several people who saw the steamed bun when she took it out, no one noticed it. While eating, Yao Zhi opened her system and put the round fans for auction.

She thought that no matter how expensive the round fan was, it could only be sold for two hundred points. Unexpectedly, due to the ancient embroidery technique, the starting bidding price was one thousand five hundred points.

Seeing this, she put all three round fans for auction. She chose different embroidery patterns so the price wouldn't plummet due to oversupply.

After she was done, she put the four treasures of study for auction. This time, she was so shocked that she forgot to swallow her food.

The starting price for a set of four treasures was eighty thousand points, but judging from the information, she might be able to get more than that.

Thinking about the points needed to open the blind box reward, Yao Zhi suddenly realized that she was not as rich as she thought.

After she finished the steamed bun and drank two bowls of tea, she was seventy percent full.

Since the four treasures of study could be sold for a very high price, she planned to visit the bookstore again. But this time, she didn't buy a glass pen. Instead, she went to the bank in this era.

In the entire town, there was only one bank owned by the Li family, who were distant relatives of a noble family in the capital. Unlike modern banks, the ones in this era were known as draft banks and were privately owned.

While the draft bank offered a full range of services similar to modern ones, the risk of storing silver there was high.

In case the bank owner ran away or a disaster occurred, their money would be gone. What's more, if the banknotes were damaged, they would become invalid and could not be used to withdraw money.

After Yao Zhi understood the rough situation by eavesdropping on the clerk and a customer's conversation, she decided to withdraw all her money. It was safer to keep the silver in her shop's warehouse.

With this conclusion, she walked to the counter and placed a stack of banknotes in front of the clerk. "Brother, please help me exchange these banknotes into gold ingots and silver ingots."

When the clerk heard this, he checked the banknotes before saying, "Guest, for this scale of transaction, I have to inform the manager. Please follow me."

Yao Zhi nodded and followed the clerk to a separate room in the back courtyard. "Guest, please wait here for a moment," the clerk said before leaving.

Not long after, a maidservant entered the room with a tray. She poured a cup of tea for her and said, "Guest, please enjoy the refreshment."

"Thank you," Yao Zhi replied.

Besides tea, there were two plates of snacks. Yao Zhi looked at the dried apricots and dried jujubes thoughtfully. She didn't know what era this kingdom was.

Judging from their products and lifestyle, she suspected that she was currently in the Shang dynasty era. But paper existed in this era, which was not in accordance with historical records.

Thinking about this gave her a headache. Yao Zhi let out a silent sigh and reached out to taste the snacks. After trying two pieces, she lost interest.

The dried fruit was tasteless and only had a faint fragrance. Compared to the candied fruits and dried fruits sold in the modern era, it was like heaven and earth.

Just after she finished a cup of tea, the clerk returned with a middle-aged man. In an era where everyone was starving, this man's plump figure showed that he was someone with capabilities.

Seeing them, Yao Zhi stood up.

The manager smiled and gestured for her to sit. "Honored Guest, please have a seat."
