Chapter 154 – Snape's Memories!!

Soon Christmas approached, and Snape looked at the two lonely children in a very bad mood.

Everyone else had a home to return to—only these two had nowhere to go.

And he had caused it.

The closer it got to Christmas, the more irritable Snape became.

So he decided to deduct points from Harry Potter.

Every time he saw that face so similar to James Potter, filled with anger yet forced into silence, Snape's mood improved.

Potter was useful in that way.

Christmas Day.

While checking the school's security arrangements, Snape discovered that Dumbledore had given Harry Potter an Invisibility Cloak—clearly the Potter family heirloom.

Dumbledore was obviously grooming Harry Potter to be the proper young head of the Potter family.

Always more privileges.

Snape remembered what James used to do using that same cloak.

In anger, he bought one for the "little cub" too—Darren Porter—hoping the two Potters would clash.

Ideally, Darren would switch cloaks with Harry.

But instead, the little cub gave Snape several heavy winter robes and a pair of warm hand-guards.

Snape scoffed—how was he supposed to be colder than the cub?

Still, he wore the hand-guards.

That night, Dumbledore called him, asking him to patrol and help lure Harry Potter to the Mirror of Erised.

Snape did not care for the "fake" mirror, but he didn't refuse.

He deliberately circled Harry, breathing loudly, pretending he was about to catch him—enjoying Harry's panicked footsteps beneath the invisibility cloak.

Finally, the two children sat before the Mirror of Erised.

Snape looked at Darren properly for the first time.

The cub was stunned by the mirror.

Snape saw the scenes too—

a peaceful world, a world with no theft, no war…

Impossible.

But fitting for that cub.

He then saw Lily reflected—those familiar green eyes.

Was she happy?

Snape's eyes went blank.

He had caused her death.

Every night afterwards, Harry dragged Darren back to the mirror.

The cub seemed reluctant.

Snape was puzzled—shouldn't a child long to see his parents?

Then he overheard Darren:

> "At first I was addicted to it… but later I realized it was all fake."

The child had noticed the truth.

More clear-headed than most.

Snape left the room.

He couldn't listen to more.

He had destroyed this boy's life—if Darren learned everything, would he want revenge?

Perhaps he deserved it.

After that, Snape even avoided meeting Darren's eyes.

One night, Filch caught Harry and asked Snape to inform Professor McGonagall.

Snape went happily—until he saw Darren too.

A dragon? Did Hagrid actually have a dragon?

Knowing Hagrid, probably.

So Darren had gone to help Harry and smuggle the dragon out?

And now looked guilty?

Snape looked away in irritation.

If you're scared, don't sneak out.

From Malfoy's retelling, Snape pieced together more.

He could see Dumbledore and the Dark Lord's fingerprints all over the situation.

Except… Darren.

Why did this child end up in everything?

And now he was joining Harry Potter's detention too?

Dumbledore's detention was meant to train the future savior—why was this cub following him?

Since he liked punishment so much…

> "Detention! In addition to Professor McGonagall's punishment, you'll serve a week with me!"

Stupid cub.

Still trying to lie that this was all his prank.

Even when he himself was punished, he worried about Harry Potter.

As though Harry Potter could ever die—he was the Boy Who Lived.

Darren was just an abandoned little orphan worrying for a savior.

Detention in the Forbidden Forest came.

Snape didn't go that day—Dumbledore insisted too many adults would alarm Voldemort.

He wanted Harry to face him once.

And he promised Snape no other children would be harmed—specifically Darren.

But despite the assurances, Darren still ended up in the Hospital Wing.

Not because he was attacked—because he had jumped in to save a unicorn.

Only then did Snape and Dumbledore realize Darren was a spiritual healer—a rare magical gift.

Such healers could even counter the Killing Curse if close enough, but the mental cost could kill them.

So the wizarding world hid them, afraid someone would kidnap them as healing tools.

Snape and Dumbledore cast a mass Confundus/Memory Charm on the students so none would recall the event.

Even Hagrid, fearing he might slip, asked for his own memory to be altered.

But they left Darren untouched—his healing seemed accidental, instinctive.

He didn't understand his power.

A true spiritual healer would have restored the unicorn fully, or died trying.

Darren simply collapsed from exhaustion.

Better he did not learn the truth yet—

or next time he might give his life.
