Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

"For a maiden voyage, this chunky gal has done quite alright." Ronan commented while on the raised quarter deck of this very big ship.

Which is the very project he had just finished... and he just had to be bold with some safety tests and whatnot by going all the way.

From Runestone's ports to King's Landing.

Fortunately, it did just fine and fit the parameters that he designed it to be. As a self-proclaimed grandmaster shipwright, he expected nothing less.

It was perfect... just like he drew it, Craig of the Creek style but more grown up with brownprints and all, cause blue paper is not yet accessible.

The only other issue was that his Knights of the Bronze Order were not yet up to par with any motley sailing crew... as they were still not really used to handling this whole thing.

Both long-distance seafaring and such a huge semi-complex vessel like this.

But that will come in time... for now, he just said that. "It is still passable at the very least."

"Only passable?" Mother Rhea, who overheard, couldn't help but chime in. "Just what counts as an excellent beast of a sea vessel for you, Ronan?"

"And don't tell me you're going to lend this out to others again." She worried. "Like all the prior iterations you have made and were not satiated with. The ones that the fishermen and hardy sailors more than praised already."

"They're only saying that because I was being generous enough to almost give it to them." Ronan downplayed and then said. "But yeah... I'm going to keep this one... and even make more of it. More of these big chunky gals for the guys to get used to."

And Rhea had not much to say after that. Her son knew more than her and had a better grasp of whatever he's envisioning.

She could only hope that such a wonderful ship not be left with the name of Chunky Gal.

For it felt odd, just as how this son of hers oftentimes calls his men as "guys"... and dudes and bros among other things.

But given that this was the boy that made boomerangs and jengas and dreidels and takraws and hula hoops... chunky gals and guys and his seldom deviative way of talking should not come as a surprise.

On the other, Ronan already locked in on a name other than Chunky Gal and Bronze Chunky Gal... as he wanted to honor the Yonta Maria that inspired the design.

Though it's not really the same ship that can dwarf a giant like Hajrudin... so it is what it is.

Perhaps closer to the Santa Maria that the Yonta Maria is alluding to... and with the helm being reminiscent of his mother...

Saint Rhea is what this great ship's name will be. A multi-masted carrack-esque beaut.

Or maybe Santa Ma-Rhea, cause that seemed fun.

Then again, regardless of what it would be known as... the capabilities of this chunky gal was no joke.

Ronan could even argue that it's the best seacraft of this world... that he knew of.

For all it's worth in Jeyne's gold that he borrowed, he tried to chuck it in with the best that he can.

Steel plating some of it… so it is kind of like the metal floaters of his old world, albeit very bronze in some of that plating... cause of the pride of the House and what not.

But more copper-heavy alloy on the underbelly because of its tested reliability... against the marine life and very watery elements.

He also scorpioned it all over with Scorpions that can double as harpoons... cause why not?

No cannons just yet... but there's quite a few more to be said about the inside and interiors.

As he really used and maximized the knowledge he accrued over the years... plus the bonuses that came from the page in his head.

"Rune tech" included.

Of course, to top all of those off... Ronan could say that this creation is currently the biggest there is. At least he thinks so...

With four storeys below deck... enough to house a very, very sizable crew... and maybe double that when they cramp up in the reasonably sized compartments.

And a whole lot of space for storage and the merchanting that Ronan plans to do.

With its superior size further evidenced by how every other ship in these Crownland waters was looking very mid in comparison.

So... big and huge, this ship is.

And, it had to be noted, that he's actually not overcompensating for something.

Totally not at all.

Especially cause he was literally just a 13-year-old now... and his relatively teeny weenie should still grow... hopefully...

Then again, as he was jokingly thinking about that issue... he actually saw 2 black dudes looking straight back at him from the nearing ports.

Looking as if they had some kind of beef or a deal that they want to make.

Which, in his opinion, is just a whole lot of weird. Or maybe just uncanny. Especially when their dreadlocks were looking quite silvery.
