Cherreads

Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 How can stitching be considered a lie?

Although he had been quite firm just now, the young Police officer, following behind the middle-aged Police officer, was still somewhat nervous.

Arriving at the Police Department's reception room, the door slowly closed behind them, cutting off the noise from the outer office area. The entire space instantly became quiet, with only the faint hum of the air conditioning.

As soon as they entered, both their gazes were immediately drawn to the figure sitting on the sofa.

It was a little girl, four or five years old, with short, neatly trimmed red hair.

Unlike ordinary little girls, she wasn't wearing a pink dress or cute children's clothes, but rather a delicate small suit. Its crisp collar and neat buttons all exuded a unique aura.

She was indeed a little girl, but instead of being cute, she gave off a more mature and capable impression.

Beside the girl, a butler stood ramrod straight, holding a delicate kettle in his hand, adding Water to the girl's cup.

The middle-aged Police officer saw the little girl and the old butler, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly as he swallowed, and in an instant, his face was covered with a brilliant smile, wrinkles layering upon layers.

He sat down opposite them with a cheerful chuckle, saying enthusiastically, "Oh, Miss Wayne, your presence at the Police Department truly brightens this humble place!"

The young Police officer sat beside him, secretly observing his partner's expression, and felt a wave of discomfort.

His partner already looked like a typical bad Police officer, and now, smiling like this, he seemed obsequious to the point of being greasy, exactly like a corrupt Police officer fawning over his protector after taking bribes.

With that look, let alone a little girl, anyone who saw it would feel disgusted.

Speaking of which, this guy also said the witness had a very high status. He wouldn't scare the little girl, would he?

But when the young Police officer looked at the little girl, he couldn't help but be taken aback.

At this moment, the little girl looked at the middle-aged Police officer, but merely curved her lips, revealing a gentle and polite smile.

Immediately after, she spoke words that left the middle-aged Police officer a little bewildered.

"You must be Officer Harvey Bullock, right? I've heard of you for a long time; today I finally get to meet the Zhenren (Immortal)."

Listening to the little girl's gentle words, the middle-aged Police officer, who was called Harvey Bullock, his pupils suddenly contracted.

Why? Why would this Miss Wayne know him?

Did she investigate beforehand? Why?

Although Harvey Bullock had the appearance of someone who would shirk responsibility, in reality, he was one of the few good Police officers in the Gotham Police Department.

Basically, all his colleagues at the Police Department had taken benefits from the gangs; he pretended to, but secretly used them to help the poor.

His current panic stemmed from not knowing what this Miss Wayne's attitude towards him was.

The entirety of Gotham was intricate and complex, where villains ascended to power and good people were crushed to dust. Although he didn't want to think that way, who knew if the Wayne Family had ever dabbled in those messy businesses.

However, Harvey's reaction was quite quick; after his initial surprise, he subtly changed his expression to one of beaming joy.

He leaned forward, looking flattered: "Yes, yes, I'm Harvey Bullock. I didn't expect Miss Wayne to know me."

The young Police officer watching this scene was somewhat surprised.

He had expected the little girl to be scared by Harvey's fawning appearance, but she was surprisingly calm.

Even more unexpectedly, before the little girl and Harvey had exchanged more than a few pleasantries, she shifted her gaze to him.

The little girl tilted her head, looking very cute, but what she said made the young Police officer frown.

"Excuse me, are you Detective Jim Gordon?"

The young Police officer, or rather, Jim Gordon, felt a jolt in his heart upon hearing this. Despite his surprise, he still nodded.

Gordon was still a bit rash in his actions now, but his intelligence was definitely not an issue.

He knew in his heart that he was just an inconspicuous young Police officer who had just arrived at the Gotham Police Department.

But from the girl's tone, he could tell that she knew a lot about his situation.

Initially, seeing that the witness was such a young girl, Gordon had subconsciously let down his guard. But the other party directly called out his name, which refocused his attention.

This girl was indeed no ordinary child.

Gwen put down her teacup and looked up, only to find the two Police officers opposite her exchanging frantic glances.

Not wanting to waste any more time, she cleared her throat and took the initiative to speak: "Officers, you didn't ask me to come all this way just to have tea, did you?"

Hearing this, the two Police officers finally realized that now was not the time for "exchanging glances."

Moreover, although the other party said it was their tea, she was clearly using her own tea leaves.

Even the one making the tea was her own butler.

Gordon awkwardly cleared his throat and pulled out a notebook from his pocket.

"Miss Wayne." Gordon opened a page, his expression turning serious. "A few days ago, in the women's restroom of the Park Street Theater, our Police found a body. The forensic pathologist estimated the time of Death to be around 8:30 PM, roughly around the intermission of Mr. Jonia's performance."

"At the time, someone saw you and your sister enter the women's restroom one after another. I wonder if Miss Wayne noticed anything unusual during that time?"

Gwen's delicate brows furrowed, as if she was recalling the situation. After a moment, she sighed and nodded lightly, her voice slightly hoarse: "I did hear some strange noises at the time."

Upon hearing this, Gordon's eyes lit up, and he eagerly pressed, "What kind of noises? Please tell us!"

"You're so agitated, you'll scare the young Miss Wayne!" Although Harvey said this, his eyes were also full of anticipation as he looked at Gwen.

Gwen, however, gently lowered her head and slowly said, "At that time, I heard a man's voice. He sounded like he was frantically searching for someone, forcefully opening the toilet stall doors one by one."

"But at that time, I should have been the only one in the entire restroom."

"So I guessed that he probably wanted to kidnap me and extort my parents." Gwen paused here, a hint of deliberate fear flashing across her smiling face. "Then, I heard the man outside suddenly shout, 'Who are you?' followed by intense crashing sounds, and various things hitting the ground."

"About ten minutes later, the sounds disappeared. I cautiously emerged from the stall, confirmed no one was around, and then quickly ran out of the restroom."

Upon hearing this, Gordon thought for a moment and then pressed further, "Miss Wayne, with such a commotion at the time, didn't you take a closer look at the restroom's environment?"

At this moment, Gwen still had a smile on her face, but there was a hint of bitterness in it: "Officer, the crashing sounds were too violent at the time, and I was worried about my safety, so I ran very quickly. I only remember that many tiles on the floor were damaged, and there were bloodstains. As for the rest... I really don't know."
