Chapter 40 - The Siren Queen [ 3 ]

This was an undodgeable attack.

I knew that much.

But I also knew that I didn't have to dodge it.

The game was hard, but it wasn't impossible.

For that reason, in this seemingly impossible attack, there were gaps.

And I knew exactly where they were.

There were four main tsunamis heading straight for me.

One of them had fewer weapons than the other.

That was the one I immediately began running toward.

In the far-right corner of the incoming tsunami, there was a small gap.

It was funny.

The gap was made perfectly for Kevin's height.

And I was taller.

So as I squeezed through the gap, I couldn't help but be grazed slightly.

It didn't hurt, but I felt slightly weaker.

Soul damage was deadly, and I'll have to get a cure afterward.

But until then, I had to focus on surviving this.

I moved through the gap in the tsunami extremely fast, since I boosted myself with Telekinesis and lightning, and when I got out, a whole sky filled with weapons awaited me.

Those weapons, however, weren't falling at the same speed.

One side was faster, while the other was slower.

I took advantage of that, and as I moved back and forth through the falling weapons, I eventually blasted myself backward, crossing the gap between several weapons, and eventually ending up in a safe zone.

Weapons fell all around me, and the four main tsunamis collided against each other, sending several small waves toward me.

I leapt up and dodged all of them, but just then, a scythe grazed my cheek.

I almost forgot Clementine could attack during this phase.

But I also had no room to relax, as more weapons began to descend from the sky.

The pattern remained the same, but with her not getting tired in the slightest, and my energy draining rapidly, I needed her to snap out of it now.

While dodging her attacks, I sent several bursts of Telekinesis at her to disorient her.

But that only seemed to make her faster and angrier.

The speed of the weapon descent increased drastically, and then one giant tsunami suddenly appeared in front of me.

This was also in the game.

But... it was also considered a wipe mechanic.

That meant if the mechanic triggered, the route was over.

After all, with no gaps in the attack, and no way to dodge the swords from above, the main character would die.

And in this case, I would be the one to die.

Because Reinhardt ate that core, her rampage lasted longer.

Fuck...

All I needed was to create a small gap.

I didn't care about Soul Damage.

Why would I?

I could fix all that damage and return to full strength within just a few days.

So with that thought in mind, and my determination reignited, I faced the thousands of weapons above me, and the giant tsunami head-on.

I focused every bit of Telekinesis I could muster, and created a barrier of crackling lightning above me.

In that very same moment, the weapons descended, tearing through bits of my barrier and piercing straight through my body.

But the main part, where I focused all of my energy, remained intact.

My head, and my heart.

Those two, if not pierced... I could remain alive.

And so as I endured the volley of weapons and eventually got into a safe zone, I had the tsunami to deal with.

I already felt weak and out of energy, but I continued ahead as I ran to the very edge of her domain.

Just then, the tsunami sped up and appeared in front of me.

I didn't see a single gap.

But right as I was about to pin everything on luck, a thick block of ice appeared from below.

It didn't stop the incoming weapons, but it did slow them down enough for me to slip into that tiny gap and arrive on the other side without even being hit once.

I had no clue how she did it, but Isabelle just saved my life.

But I also knew that to break into this barrier, it must've cost much more energy than Isabelle had.

I needed to finish this fast.

Clementine stared down at me with a surprised expression, and as she lowered her hand to send another set of weapons, I blasted off the ground with what little energy I had left.

I appeared right in front of her face.

Then, I did the only thing I could do at the moment.

And that was to slap her across the face.

SLAP

SNAP

Surprisingly, her face was so tough that my wrist snapped.

But as I fell back down and landed on the ground, I realized no more attacks were coming.

Except the moment I raised my head to meet her gaze, I felt a prickle in my chest.

When I looked down, I saw a scythe piercing clean through the center but missing my heart just narrowly.

Still, such an attack weakened me to the point my knees buckled, and I felt too weak to even stand up.

It seemed like no matter how much I did, and how many plans I made, I still couldn't do it.

So much for playing the game and beating it.

Haha.

I took a few deep breaths and closed my eyes.

But then I abruptly reopened them.

To my surprise, Clementine had descended, and now she was standing right beside me, with her hand over her chin.

Her previously obsidian eyes were clear, and she just stared at me with a confused look.

She snapped out of it.

A little bit late...

Definitely would've appreciated it if she hadn't pierced me and fucked me over.

But on the flip side, I wouldn't die at least.

She opened her mouth, and although I couldn't hear her, I felt a soothing sensation spread throughout my body.

I felt warm and comfortable for a moment.

Clementine wasn't on the level where she could heal Soul Damage.

But she could temporarily heal that damage.

Long enough for her to crouch down and question me.

"Boy. What happened here?"
