The Night creature stood over Unwan, its jaws clamped down on his face. Unwan realized what was happening just in time and managed to grab both sides of the creature's jaw with his two hands, otherwise, his face or more accurately, half of his head would have been ripped off in a single bite.
Despite this defense, the creature's jaws were so strong that several of its teeth pierced right through the flesh of Unwan's palms, while the rest significantly damaged his skin. Moreover, the brute force in its jaws was far greater than the strength in Unwan's arms. With every passing second, the jaws drew closer together, and the gap between Unwan's hands diminished.
In a short time, several of the creature's sword-like teeth made contact with Unwan's face. They pierced his skin without any difficulty. As the jaws continued to close, the teeth sank deeper into Unwan's face. Unwan knew his fate was sealed if he didn't do something immediately. But what was that "something"?
Unwan did the last thing that came to his mind. He began kicking the creature's body as hard as possible with his knee. The Night creature barely paid any attention to this. However, Unwan understood that the creature's fury and bloodlust were intensifying because it was becoming harder and harder for him to hold the jaws apart.
The creature had almost achieved absolute victory over Unwan. The aforementioned teeth were already pressing against bone, and the remaining ones were continuing to bore into his face. At this rate, he would undoubtedly lose his skull and both his hands simultaneously. At that moment, his mind was filled with final thoughts, as if even hope had turned its back on him.
'At least I won't have to watch my body being miserably devoured before I die.'
But the words deep in his heart wouldn't let him stop.
'Not yet, not yet. Is this all? Am I going to die here after all this struggle? No, at least I will take this creature with me...'
Just then, something struck the Night creature with great force. It was flung about 10 meters to the left. Its teeth scraped past Unwan's face. Unwan's face was horribly mutilated. Although he felt no pain at all, he was certain that he would have at least 10 scars on his face.
Both of his arms felt as though they were on fire. Without any warm-up, they had been holding back the equivalent of a fully grown horse.
At first, Unwan didn't understand what was happening. Then, he suddenly caught sight of a Mechanical guardian. It had a dark pink mace in it's left hand, and in place of the other hand was a sharp dwrk red object, like a sword. From this, he realized that the Mechanical guardian had struck the Night creature with the Themir mace.
Before Unwan could fully comprehend what this thing was, the wolf-like creature got up and lunged at the guard.
It seemed to intend to strike the guardian's head, if it could even be called a head. The guardian brought its mace close to its chest. As the creature approached, it opened its mouth wider, perhaps enraged by the blow. The guardian swiftly moved back half a meter and brought its mace forward to the spot where its head had been just a second before.
And just like that, the wolf creature fell into its own trap. It closed its mouth, impaling itself on the mace's sharp spikes. It was as if the guardian had calculated this in advance. Taking advantage of the creature being caught on the mace, the guardian slammed it onto the ground behind it with great speed. Although it looked externally unharmed, it was certain that several parts of the Night creature's spine were now broken.
But the guardian didn't pay any attention to this and struck it back in the opposite direction with the same speed. The force of the blow tore the wolf creature's jaw, and in that instant, the mace came free.
Unwan watched this with astonishment. He had only thought that this Mechanical guardian protected the fountain from people. Furthermore, he had never even imagined that it possessed two themir weapons.
Unwan was confident that the guardian could defeat the wolf creature. However, a problem was now apparent.
Although the creature was still down, neither of the guardian's weapons could reach it. The point was that the weapons were short. To reach the ground, the wielder would either have to bend over or sit down. Since the Mechanical guardian had only one leg and three pairs of wheels, it could not perform either of these movements. Bending would cause it to lose balance and fall over.
As if understanding this, the creature moved as close to the ground as possible, attempting to strike the guardian's leg. But the guardian wasn't just standing there; it tried to back away as far as possible, yet the wolf creature's speed was much faster than its own.
It finally reached the guardian and, coming from the left, shoved guardian's leg hard to the right. In a way, the creature was extremely lucky. The guardian's sword barely grazed its scalp, even managing to cut a bit of fur.
But it had successfully toppled the guardian.
Now, the Mechanical guard was harmless to the creature, even if the creature couldn't approach it. The wolf creature, with its fearfully torn and bleeding mouth, now stared at its meal — Unwan.
It stared intently at Unwan for a moment. It was as if it knew he would soon die from the blood loss. Unwan could run. But he knew the wolf creature's limbs were not injured, and it could easily catch up to him.
Knowing he had to act for himself, Unwan slowly stood up. He had watched the entire spectacle lying half-prone on the ground. As he stood, blood began to flow more heavily from the seven cuts on his body. Unwan raised his fist toward the creature. Although he temporarily felt no pain, he knew what was happening because his body was refusing to let him clench his hand into a tight fist.
The wolf creature seemed ready to employ the same old strategy: quickly rush in, pin Unwan down with its weight, and simultaneously tear off the opponent's head with its massive mouth.
However, having learned from its fight with the guardian that this method might not always work, it approached differently. It slowly crept closer to its future meal. It waited patiently. After five or six seconds, it suddenly burst into a run, covering the 10 meters in three steps and targeting Unwan's left arm. It was as if it wanted revenge for the eye that had been wounded.
But as the wolf creature began its charge toward him, Unwan had already realized that the spectacle was not over yet. At that moment, the guardian had lifted its mace-wielding arm with force. The mace instantly flew toward where the guardian's head should have been, suspended by chains the same color as the mace.
Then, the guardian returned its arm to its original position. The mace flew off again at high speed, now heading toward the creature. The sound of it slicing through the air finally registered in the Night creature's ears. It looked toward the source of the sound. But...
...it was too late.
