Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: The Girl He Saved, The Boy Who Forgot

After washing up again, Ryan lay on his bed, ready to sleep.

Suddenly

ding!

his phone vibrated.

"Seriously?

Who sends messages this late…?"

He grumbled as he picked it up.

But when he saw the sender

he froze.

Yuigahama Yui.

She had been a member of Yukinoshita Yukino's service club,

and Ryan had met her once before.

The first time was on the very first day of high school.

Back then, Ryan suddenly felt like walking to school every morning,

so he even bought an apartment near campus.

That morning, on the way, he arrived at a crosswalk

where he suddenly spotted a dachshund dashing onto the road.

"Sablé!"

A pink-haired girl was chasing after it

clearly the owner.

Seriously…

Can't you keep your dog under control?

Ryan HATED people who walked dogs without leashes.

Small dogs were still somewhat tolerable.

But big dogs? If they bite someone, there's no stopping them.

Actually, even small dogs were a problem

like those deranged toy poodles who randomly fall in love with strangers,

or Chihuahuas who bark like they own the world.

If one of those barked at him, he always felt like punting it into orbit.

Just then

a car came speeding from the side.

Not fast enough to kill a person,

but definitely fast enough to kill the dog.

The pink-haired girl saw it and screamed, covering her eyes.

This is my cue.

Ryan had been standing close to the dog's side.

Without hesitation, he dove forward

snatching the dog midair

and rolling into a perfect superhero landing.

If you asked Ryan why he'd risk himself for something so troublesome…

Cool guys don't overthink it.

First, he had absolute confidence in his reflexes.

And the car wasn't that fast

saving the dog was easy for him.

Second, because he felt like doing it.

That's all.

If it were something big like global warming, deforestation, pollution

he wouldn't bat an eye.

Those weren't his personal responsibility.

One more eco-friendly citizen wouldn't change anything.

But things right in front of him

things he could intervene in

those he never ignored.

No matter whether he succeeded or not,

so long as he acted without regret.

Fortunately, the dog survived,

and its owner thanked him sincerely.

That was enough.

If the owner had been some spoiled brat who didn't appreciate him?

Sorry

we would've had a duel behind the convenience store.

And he knew a thing or two about punching.

The dog was safe.

His job was done.

Time to head to school.

He did notice the owner was pretty cute

especially her chest, which ranked among the top he'd ever seen.

He could have asked for her number,

or accepted payment "in the form of her body,"

but he wasn't that desperate.

And she probably wasn't that easy anyway.

Yuigahama slowly opened her eyes

not hearing Sablé's dying scream.

Instead, she felt something wet brushing her face.

Sablé was licking her.

She blinked

and saw the dog being held in front of her.

Before she could react,

the boy shoved the dog back into her arms.

By the time she gathered her thoughts,

he was already walking away

as if nothing special had happened.

"W-wait!

What's your name?"

"I'm just a passing Kamen Rider "

Before she could ask more, he left.

Kamen Rider…?

What's that supposed to mean?

But she still bowed deeply toward his retreating figure.

"Thank you…

Really."

 Ryan didn't look back.

He simply waved a hand behind him.

Yuigahama watched him go,

her mind already made up.

Judging by his uniform, he's from my school.

Probably a first-year like me.

Maybe even my classmate.

Even if he isn't… someone that handsome will be famous in no time.

I'll figure out which class he's in and thank him properly.

Later, the driver also came to apologize,

asking if the dog needed a vet

and where the boy went,

worried he might have been hurt.

After settling everything and taking Sablé home,

Yuigahama changed into her uniform and headed to school.

Arriving at her new class, she stood at the door, hearing students chatting inside.

She gave herself a pep talk.

I have to make friends this time.

I have to get along with everyone…

While preparing her courage

a calm, low voice spoke behind her.

"Excuse me.

Could you move a bit?"

She turned.

 Ryan.

He had already found his classroom earlier

and, after dropping off his stuff, had gone to the bathroom.

When he returned, Yuigahama was blocking the back door.

He recognized her immediately the pink hair and adorable bun accessories were unmistakable.

But he didn't greet her.

This morning's incident was just one of many things that happened to him daily.

She was just another person he'd helped.

They might never interact again.

And he wasn't one of those pathetic guys who drooled over every pretty girl they saw.
