Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Dormant Shadows and Sleeping Trees

Before Kael was transported to the battlefield, he did what he always did best:

he scanned the enemy—and cross-checked everything with the anime he remembered.

Team Ueki

Kosuke Ueki – Turn trash into treesSano – Turn towels into ironRinko – Turn beads into explosivesAi – No powerKael Eidric – Heavenly Bone Manipulation: Turn skin into bone

A balanced team. Predictable, stable, reliable.

But predictable teams win tournaments.

Kael knew that well.

Team Grano

Grano – Power: Turn a toy model into its real, fully functional versionGuitar – Power: Turn clothes into shockwavesPecol – Power: Turn photos into living toysPastello – Power: Turn drawings into real portals

Canon-accurate. Dangerous in synergy.

Kael mentally recited each ability, remembering every fight, every trick from the anime.

But then—

his scan caught something the anime never had.

Something that froze the air.

A fifth aura.

A fifth heartbeat.

A figure standing behind Grano's team…

silent, pale, almost blending into the shadows.

Thin body.

Messy hair.

Eyes shaded with smoky ghost-like makeup.

Kael narrowed his gaze and activated the system.

The response was immediate.

[Scanning…]

Name: Hares

Bloodline: Ghost

Rank: F-Class

World: Law of Ueki [World-8239C]

Resonance: Dormant Resonance

Kael frowned.

Rank F.

Dormant resonance.

A weakling?

No.

Not even close.

If this were an ordinary person, they wouldn't appear on the scan at all.

Resonance only responded to those who had crossed worlds—

beings who did not belong here.

Rexa—the spider distortion—was First Awakening.

Kael himself stood at the same tier.

And Vyrastra…

Second Awakening, a level above them both.

But this one…

Dormant.

The very beginning.

The seed before the storm.

Something that hadn't awakened yet—

—but absolutely could.

And that made it far more dangerous.

"A ladder," Kael muttered, eyes narrowing. "There's a ladder to this power."

Resonance wasn't random.

It was evolution.

Transformation.

A staircase leading to something far beyond these fantasy worlds—

a force that tied every universe together.

Kael tried to piece the system's logic together—

—but the ground beneath his feet ripples.

He felt it before he saw it.

A perfect circle of light carved itself into the earth.

"Match commencement—transporting participants."

A gravitational pull yanked his entire body downward.

"Not yet—!"

Too late.

The circle widened like a jaw unhinging, swallowing him whole.

Light vanished.

Wind roared past his ears.

Weightlessness swallowed him—

THUD.

Kael hit soft ground, the scent of sugar-heavy air rushing into his lungs.

He pushed himself up.

Around him stood towering trees covered in massive, glowing fruits—radiant like lanterns in the dusk. A sweet, hypnotic aroma wafted through the air, tugging at his eyelids, whispering sleep.

Kael exhaled sharply, forcing focus back into his body.

"Sleeping Fruit Island," he muttered.

The battlefield for the first league match.

A place where one careless bite…

could put even a superhuman into a coma.

He dusted off his white uniform, bones humming faintly beneath his skin as his senses sharpened.

Hares.

Dormant resonance.

A distortion hiding in Grano's shadow.

"Fine," Kael whispered, cracking his neck as his bone plates tightened.

"Let's see what you anomalies can really do."

The island wind rustled, sweet and dangerous.

Opportunity.

Threat.

A test from the world itself.

The match had begun.

When Kael materialized on the island, he stood alone.

Good.

Faster that way.

From everything he remembered of this world, most fighters here weren't exactly monsters. Not compared to what he'd fought in his past life. And after weeks of training, Ueki was far stronger than canon.

This match wasn't a direct elimination—

it was a treasure hunt.

The more teammates gathered, the more the map revealed itself.

Complete the map, and you find the treasure.

Find the treasure… and you win.

Kael moved through the glowing trees, footsteps silent.

Minutes passed—

Leaves rustled.

Then he found him.

Black full-body clothing.

Sharp yellow hair.

Smoky makeup smudged around the eyes like some sleep-deprived rockstar.

Guitar.

He turned slowly, lips curling into a theatrical grin.

"Hahaha! So you're my opponent?"

He lifted a microphone with a flourish.

"Let me show you the true power of my voice!"

Kael saw it immediately—his clothes tightening around his skin.

Not normally.

Not naturally.

Like they were hugging him.

Squeezing him.

Vibrating.

A hum built beneath his ribs—

BWOOOOM!

A shockwave burst through his body.

Not enough to injure his bones—

but enough to rattle the organs inside like someone shaking a fragile box.

Kael grit his teeth as his lungs spasmed.

Guitar threw his head back, laughing.

"Hahahaha! Feel that? I turned your clothes into a shockwave chamber!"

Kael didn't need the explanation.

He'd seen this in the anime.

Guitar didn't attack with his voice.

His actual ability was to turn his opponent's clothes into shockwave generators.

He brought Ueki to his knees in one hit.

The pain was real.

Overwhelming.

And Kael felt every bit of it.

But…

He also knew exactly how to beat him.

A slow, dangerous smile curved across Kael's lips.

[Power: Turn Skin Into Bone]

Kael activated his ability.

His skin hardened instantly—

white, jagged bone crawling across his body like living armor.

The shockwaves hit him again—

BWOOOM—

—but this time they bounced harmlessly off the bone plating.

No penetration.

No internal vibration.

No pain.

Kael took one step forward.

Guitar's eyes widened.

"W–What—?!"

Too late.

Kael's right fist shot forward—

CRACK!

A shockwave burst out from Guitar's clothes, deflecting the punch.

Kael expected that.

He didn't stop.

Left fist—fast.

Precise.

A blur.

Guitar raised his arms, blocking by sheer instinct.

But Kael didn't stop.

He kept punching.

Left. Right. Left. Right.

A relentless storm, faster and faster, bone cracking against vibrating cloth.

Guitar's breathing turned ragged.

His eyes darted in panic.

He couldn't keep up.

Because Guitar's fatal flaw—the same one Kael remembered from the anime—

was simple:

He couldn't convert every piece of clothing at once.

He couldn't defend every hit.

Not forever.

Kael surged forward—

BANG!

A clean, brutal punch landed square on Guitar's chin.

His head snapped back.

His body flew.

And he collapsed on the forest floor—

completely unconscious.

The forest quieted.

Kael exhaled, and the bone covering his body receded, peeling back into flesh.

A reminder of his own weakness in this world:

if he wasn't careful with Bone Manipulation, the armor could restrict his movement.

So he shaped it carefully—

thin where he needed speed, thick where he needed protection.

A balance.

He stepped over to the fallen Guitar and retrieved the small map fragment from his pocket.

Kael compared it to his own.

The same piece.

"Shit," he muttered.

No progress.

He needed more people.

More fragments.

More leverage.

Kael tightened his grip on the map and looked deeper into the glowing forest.

"Alright," he whispered.

"Next target."

The treasure hunt continued—

and the anomalies were still out there.
