When she opened her eyes, the room was dark save two candles that were lit at the bedside table.
Claire struggled to sit up but thought better of it when her head began to swirl.
She glanced around the unfamiliar room, trying to fathom where she was.
It wasn't her room in Penbrook, neither was it Aurora's room.
The bed was not a very large one with bedposts and a canopy. It was scarcely furnished except for a cloth chest in the corner, a vanity table and stool and a desk for writing letters.
Claire tried opening her mouth to speak but found that she was too parched.
Where in heavens was she? An inn could not look half as comfortable and… costly.
Footsteps in the darkened corner caught her attention.
"You're finally awake."
Her eyes darted in the direction of the voice she knew like her own skin.
