"Inevitable?"
Sarah looked away.
"Do I look like I'll pick up a knife and start killing people for the fun of it one day?"
She parted her lips to speak, but said nothing.
"They don't kill for fun." She finally said.
"But they still kill."
"I wouldn't have hesitated in killing the Sarah that did this to me," she pointed at her abdomen. "if she had not taken me by surprise."
"So that's what this is! A game of survival of the fittest?"
She pinched her nose. "I don't know what it is. But I know how to use a knife if it ever comes to that." She cracked a crooked grin.
Something about her grin made him smile.
"You're even more crazy than I remember."
She chuckled. "You thought I was crazy?"
"A little." He gestured with his hands.
"Let's clean my wound before it festers. All this laughing makes it hurt."
"Let me get supplies from my dad's room."
He could hear voices coming from downstairs.
"Where could they have been?" Mrs. Tolen was asking.
