Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Corrupted Eyes, Abandoned Guardian of Oblivion

Revenant Call!

Before heading toward one of the paths in the ruins, Karl summoned a [Soul Revenant] from his necklace.

The dim glow of the necklace pulsed for a moment before a shadowy figure emerged, its translucent form drifting like smoke above the cracked stone floor.

Then, without hesitation, Karl pointed toward one of the dark halls ahead.

"Just go ahead. I'll follow you."

In places like this, it wasn't uncommon for there to be hidden traps or sudden ambushaes waiting in silence.

That was exactly why Karl always relied on his summon first.

Having something that could move ahead of him, even a creature as fragile as the [Soul Revenant], could mean the difference between life and death.

Even though it would eventually become obsolete in the later stages, for now, it was still useful.

And sure enough, just moments after Karl took a few steps forward—

Bam! Slash!

A group of [Corrupted Believers of Oblivion] burst out from the shadows, claws outstretched.

They struck at the [Soul Revenant] all at once, their movements jerky and unrestrained, as if their minds had been eaten away by madness.

The revenant retaliated instantly, swinging its claws at them with a ghostly shriek, but its attacks did little damage.

The corrupted believers barely flinched, their twisted faces locking onto Karl instead.

The moment their eyes fell on him—

["Corrupted Believers of Oblivion" have entered a "Berserk" state.]

Karl sighed under his breath, "Yeah, not a coincidence."

Without waiting another second, he raised his hand and fired a spell.

Annihilating Fireball!

Boom!

The explosion tore through the hallway.

-9,380! -9,380! -9,380!

Once again, it only took a few seconds for him to defeat them without any help.

Even these creatures, which could make level 15 players struggle to survive, were nothing in front of his raw firepower.

'I can thank the damage of my class,' Karl thought with a grin.

He gained a few more lives from the fight but didn't bother to look through his panel.

That wasn't what he cared about.

What truly caught his attention were these so-called believers.

Why were they attacking him: the heir of the being they were supposed to worship?

Karl pressed onward, deeper into the ruins, killing everything that dared to appear in front of him.

The air grew heavier with each battle.

The ruins themselves seemed alive, filled with whispers and shifting echoes.

Every corner revealed more of the same creatures, [Corrupted Believers of Oblivion] wandering aimlessly, muttering words that made no sense.

But as he continued deeper, new monsters appeared.

---

[Devout Oblivion Beast (Level 10)]

[Rank: Elite]

[HP: 9,000]

---

They were massive, animal-like creatures, restrained by chains held by some of the believers.

Their eyes burned with an eerie purple light, and their bodies radiated a strange dark aura.

These beasts were stronger than the believers, far stronger.

But even then, Karl simply lifted his hand, summoned a single spell, and watched as his fireball struck them.

Boom!

The entire pack vanished in an instant. One-shot kills.

He didn't even break a sweat.

Still, there was something about them that made him pause for a moment: their eyes.

Every single one of them, believers or beasts, had the same corrupted purple glow in their pupils.

'The eye of the [God of Oblivion] was purple too,' Karl thought, narrowing his gaze, 'And the path that led me here had the same light…'

For a brief moment, he wondered about his own reflection.

He hadn't seen himself in a mirror since unlocking this class.

Did his eyes look like that now too?

The thought lingered, but he shook it off and continued.

The [Soul Revenant] floated silently ahead, its ethereal glow dimming.

It was close to death, but it didn't matter. Its purpose was nearly fulfilled.

And eventually—

Ding!

[You have entered the "Final Chamber."]

"Oh?" Karl muttered.

Players at this stage couldn't go through a "zone" since there were none in the [Novice Continent].

Even Karl was surprised to be able to go through one, which also made it the hardest zone in the continent theorically.

But when such a panel appeared, it usually meant that you reached the end of the zone.

The chamber ahead was enormous, with tall marble pillars in all four corners and a massive eye symbol carved into the wall.

The air was thick with dust and divine energy long faded.

At the center stood a four-meter-tall stone statue, unmoving and cold.

Behind it was a sealed door covered in glowing runes, the same purple hue that had followed him since the beginning.

Reaching this room meant one thing: the final fight.

Every zone had its [Zone Boss].

Karl had already fought one before: the [Broken General].

These bosses were always the strongest beings in their respective areas, capable of wiping out entire groups of players.

And the moment Karl looked at the statue, he knew what he was dealing with.

---

[Abandoned Guardian of Oblivion (Level 10)]

[Rank: Epic (Zone Boss)]

[HP: 35,000]

[A guardian that protects the ruins of the "God of Oblivion," even though it has long been abandoned.]

---

Karl exhaled slowly.

"An Epic-ranked boss, huh…"

He couldn't afford a single mistake here.

Without wasting any time, he began channeling both of his main spells.

Annihilating Fireball! Frost Crystal!

Fwish! Boom!

The two spells struck the statue simultaneously, shaking the chamber.

-9,380! -4,000!

Nearly half its health gone in a single volley.

But the [Slowness] effect didn't apply, the guardian was stone, immune to such conditions.

The moment the spells hit, cracks spread across its body, and a deep rumble echoed through the room.

Then, from the hollow in its face, a massive purple eye opened.

The guardian began to move.

Each step was heavy enough to shake the floor, and the air rippled around its arms as it raised its stone fists.

It didn't wield any weapon, but it didn't need to.

The sheer strength radiating from it was overwhelming.

Karl could tell instantly: this was the strongest monster in the entire [Novice Continent].

No normal player, or even a full team, would have a chance against this thing at level 10.

And the moment it looked down at Karl...

Ding!

["Abandoned Guardian of Oblivion" has entered a "Berserk" state.]

Karl groaned.

"Oh, come on…"

Rock Fist Smash!

The guardian's fists came down like meteors.

Fwish!

The impact sent a shockwave across the chamber, splitting the ground.

Karl reacted instantly.

Magic Barrier!

The [Soul Revenant] vanished in an instant, obliterated by the first impact, but his barrier held firm, barely.

'The summon wouldn't have been useful in a fight like this anyway,' Karl thought, stepping back and dodging the next strike, 'Just have to focus on firing my spells.'

Frost Crystal!

Bam!

-4,000!

The attack hit directly, shards of ice exploding across the guardian's chest.

Due to its massive size and rigid structure, it was practically impossible for it to dodge.

For a regular player, the challenge would've been landing a hit without being crushed by its fists.

But Karl could maintain distance, making the fight far easier.

Seconds passed as Karl dodged, fired, and dodged again, each movement calculated and sharp.

The chamber echoed with roars and explosions.

Finally—

Annihilating Fireball! Frost Crystal!

Boom!

-9,380! -4,000!

[Boss HP: 8,240/35,000]

The guardian was almost finished.

One more strike and it would fall.

But before Karl could cast again—

ROOOOARRRR!

A violent roar burst from the hole in the statue's head.

A shockwave of energy exploded outward, shaking the chamber so violently that dust rained down from the ceiling.

The noise drew attention.

From every direction, footsteps echoed, dozens of them.

A wave of [Corrupted Believers of Oblivion] and [Devout Oblivion Beasts] flooded into the chamber, their purple eyes glowing in the dark.

Ten of them at least, surrounding Karl as if they had been waiting for this signal.

Even surrounded, Karl didn't flinch.

'I'll get rid of the boss first. Once it's gone, the rest will be easy to deal with.'
