'... Wait, what?'
Nox was utterly shocked. He snapped his eyes open and stared into the void with a look of pure disbelief. '... you can't be serious right now... Right?' The response made him feel as though his soul had left his body. "Exactly as you've heard! You can't have sexual relations with anyone, or else my power would only consume them."
'Fuck that! That's some bullshit! How the hell does that even work! You must be making this shit up... Yeah, you are definite-'
"One is not making it up at all."
'... How do you expect me to believe that?' He narrowed his eyes at the void and scoffed.
"Since you are not convinced, let One explain better. As One said earlier, the nature of One's power is chaotic. If One were to inject One's power into a living being without a contract, they would get more powerful, but their life force will be consumed. As One's Vessel, One's power is within you; hence, through any form of sexual relations, you are passing out some of One's power. Even if only a little, that person will die, and the power you released will come back to you with that person's life force... Do you understand?"
Nox was perplexed. He sat up straight, arms crossed, and eyes narrowed. 'What the hell kind of logic is that?'
Veil sighed. "What I am telling you is a warning based on several occurrences. If you want the guilt of killing an innocent person on your hands, then go ahead. At the end, One can reap more power from the life force One will absorb."
Nox refused to accept this. However, he was a little afraid of the possibility Veil was correct. '... Everything he has said so far has been true... Shit! I'm going to be single for life!' He gritted his teeth.
While Nox was agonizing, Veil sensed something. "Hmm, it seems you must awaken."
'What? Why?'
"Someone has come to see you. You must meet them, so One will reside here for now."
Nox felt like some force was snatching him upwards. 'Here? Where is here?! I'm not ready!' And like that, his voice faded, leaving silence.
"Hmm, who knew a creature like that would seek out my Vessel so soon. This is definitely interesting..."
Meanwhile, in Nox's hospital room, the lights were off, and the only source of light was the silver moonlight streaming through the window. The light fell from the window to the bed, revealing Nox, who slept soundly. The room was still, and nothing seemed to be amiss; however, a shadow was cast on the bed as a cat-like creature sat on the windowsill. Its midnight blue eyes observed the sleeping form of Nox, and at that moment, Nox's eyes fluttered. He opened his eyes, dazed, and looked around. He made direct eye contact with the cat and stared at it. He didn't flinch as he stared at the cat.
Slowly, he sat up straight and stretched out his hand to the cat. "... Good kitty, come here~". He spoke in a soft voice as the cat stared at him, then at the outstretched hand, but didn't show any fear. Nox took that as a sign to proceed. He scratched behind the cat's ear, and slowly, the cat began purring. This normal reaction healed Nox's heart. The cat jumped onto his bed, and our protagonist just kept petting it.
'Ah, this is so normal~. I thought this cat would start talking for a second there. Its fur is so so-'
"Human, I have decided to follow you as my Master. Let's form the contract, so I can enjoy this forever!"
A child's voice spoke out, and immediately, Nox froze. He looked at the cat, which stared at him like he was some hero. The smile on Nox's face fell, and he had a deadpan expression. '... Of course, it talks.' The cat licked his hand, and like a light switch, he went back to petting it. 'Oh well, at least it's a cute one.'
He played with the cat for a while and felt refreshed. "Human! Let's form the contract!"
The cat spoke again. He simply picked up the cat, laid back down, and went to sleep.
