Chapter song: Glimpse of Us - Joji
There was a story Lucien's nanny used to tell him on the nights he would stay up, waiting for his parents to come home.
They would be gone days at a time, and though he never expressed it aloud, he would miss them terribly.
Lucien was a child who grew up wanting nothing. Anything he desired was at his disposal. Yet the young child felt a deep, aching loneliness, which he tried to mask by putting on an unbothered face, lifting his head and acting as though nothing in the world deterred him.
His nanny, Zosia, a kind, older woman who was a regular human but possessed incredible insight, could feel the loneliness around him despite his attempts to hide it. So every night, she would tuck him into bed, dimming the lights and climb under the covers with him.
She would run her long, withered fingers through his hair and tell him stories in a soft and soothing voice.
