Chapter 109: The Inventory

The Prevost was cutting through the Michigan night, a few hours from Detroit. The rest of the team was asleep, but Michael was completely awake in his suite, laptop closed and eyes fixed on the void.
It was time to take stock.
He closed his eyes and let the System interface materialize in his field of vision. The numbers glowed with that characteristic golden light, but this time Michael didn't look at the main counter. First, he needed to understand where he stood.

It was as if the song was waiting for a future moment, a moment when Michael would need to ask forgiveness for something he hadn't yet done.
'Someday I'll understand why you gave me this', he thought. 'But today is not that day.'

Michael opened his eyes and returned to the reality of the bus. His mind processed the numbers as the System interface faded.
He grabbed a notebook and started writing the summary:

Ten million Impact Points. More than five million dollars in Ethereum. Twenty published songs, more than thirty waiting for their moment.
And he had barely been in this world for a few months.
'But it's not enough', he thought as he put away the notebook. 'It's never enough.'
He closed his eyes and let the movement of the bus rock him toward a light sleep. Tomorrow was Detroit. After that would come more cities, more shows, more songs.
The inventory would keep growing.
And Michael Demiurge would keep building his empire, one note at a time.
