Prince Maegon Targaryen, the Wandering Prince.
Maegon was the son of Prince Aemon Targaryen, eldest of King Jaehaerys I's children, and Jocelyn Baratheon of Storm's End.
He was born a few years before his father's death in 92 AC.
In this way, Prince Maegon was the younger brother of Princess Rhaenys, the Queen Who Never Was.
Since Aemon was the firstborn son and true heir to the Conciliator, the line of succession ought to have passed through his line before his brother Baelon.
That meant his heirs were his adult daughter, Rhaenys, and his infant son, Maegon.
By law, Maegon ought to have been crowned King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, but as he was still a child, the succession moved over him.
By Great Council 101, both he and his elder sister, the true heirs, were overlooked by the Lords Paramount and their grandsire, who held all power.
Rhaenys—a woman.
Maegon—still a child.
Hence, Baelon's firstborn son, their cousin Viserys, was named heir and crowned king shortly after Jaeherys' demise.
Maegon grew up... unfettered.
He held an autonomous role in the Targaryen dynasty after Viserys ascended the throne.
He bore no titles, no position at court, and no inheritance. Thus, he gained the nickname "the Wandering Prince" for his love of venturing through and beyond Westeros in search of purpose.
Maegon looked like the prototypical Targaryen, but even better, boosted by the Baratheon blood of his mother.
He had commanding height, a broad frame, and sickly pale skin, and he delighted in dressing in scaly armor for his adventures.
The most peculiar feature of the prince was his hair.
It was platinum-gold, but more uniquely, a few black strands inherited from his mother framed one eye, giving him an unsettling look.
It was unarguable that Maegon was the most comely of his era, seconded only by his cousin, Daemon.
Raised in Driftmark by his sister, Lord Corlys was willing to accommodate the young prince. After all, he was hardly present most of the time.
Rhaenys assumed the role of mother, sister, and first lover, guiding Maegon in every way for every absent role.
Since Corlys was often away on his naval ventures, Rhaenys did not mind taking Maegon to bed for sport.
Laenor and Laena remained Corlys's offspring, but Maegon fathered Rhaenys's three latter, hideous dragon-human births.
Like Viserys to Daenerys, Rhaenys often told Maegon stories of stolen birthrights and the crowns that should have been his or hers.
Maegon liked the stories, but only for how she narrated them after their intimacies.
He did not truly care about the deprived inheritance, because he could never imagine himself seated atop the Iron Throne, governing the Seven Kingdoms.
He cared only about what's west of Westeros and who's more skilled than the most skilled swordsman in Braavos.
But the more his sister wailed over what was lost, the more he began to wonder if it truly might have been a problem back then.
Maegon remembered how his visits to King's Landing were taken by the people and by Viserys' court.
Everyone in the city recognized him whenever he arrived, either astride Meleys with Rhaenys or alone.
When he was born, his birth had been celebrated as something joyous to live for after Aemon's death.
While staying in King's Landing during the Great Council 101 at Harrenhal, the people of the city were outraged that the boy wasn't considered for the succession.
This meant that even many years later, there were some who still believed he should have been king.
In that case, Viserys' council had not forgotten about the boy, too.
Ever clever, Otto Hightower had suggested measures to keep Prince Maegon Targaryen as far from the Crown as possible.
Measures included: sending him to remote holds under supervision, restricting his access to courtly education, knighting him to join the kingsguard, and pairing him with guardians loyal to the king rather than to his own family.
But Maegon was stubborn and headstrong, and Viserys deemed his council's approach too extreme for a young lad.
Instead, Viserys complemented Maegon's childhood with plays, tourneys, and jokes.
Maegon became the fun little brother he never found in Daemon, and following his council's advice to restrict the boy was not in the king's best interest.
But the truth was that the Wandering Prince had a strong claim to the Iron Throne, and in Westeros, people never forget.

Maegon was in Driftmark when Rhaenys returned from Dragonstone.
She had brought news of the Greens usurping the throne to Rhaenyra and Daemon.
After narrowly escaping the monstrous Vhagar and Aemond One-Eye, Rhaenys had fled across Blackwater Bay to the refuge of the Blacks.
Rhaenyra and Daemon did not even dare question her loyalty after hearing that she did not hesitate to burn her brother Aegon.
But two more heirs still lived, and at that moment, Aemond One-Eye was being crowned Prince Regent of the realm.
"The Greens are coming for you, Rhaenyra," Rhaenys warned.
After four days, Rhaenys returned to Driftmark once her injuries had been tended.
She was delighted to hear her brother was in the castle, for he was the one she needed to know was alive amid the chaos.
At the beach, Maegon was sparring with her son, Laenor.
In the bailey of the tower stood a pale Daena and a few servants.
Daena's last child had been stillborn, and she was facing complications with this one. Rhaenys knew then that these were ominous signs of misfortune set to strike the Targaryens.
When Laenor spotted his mother at the tower's wing, he tapped Maegon to yield.
