Chapter 9 - Psychopath

Finally back in the city, all Maryne could think of was her poor sister and how she felt or what she must be going through. "Come on guys, move faster. I need to check on Lishawn," she demanded, the two agreeing.

While they moved to the traffic lights, blue and red sirens were flashing as they couldn't see but gaining sight saw the policeman getting out of their cars as they headed for them.

"Um, should we run?" Tracey asked, Magdalene holding her hand tight. Without hesitation, Maryne ran with the trio shocked and instantly following her as the cops started gaining speed too as Maryne led them to a spot where they wouldn't catch them but every corner they took more popped out of nowhere as the trio began to lose breath.

"What do they even want with us?" "I'm pretty-" Tracey caught her breath. "-sure it's because we are getting more information about the creature or getting in their way," she said, still trying to breathe while running. Maryne then panicked when three men met them across a convenience store as she helped the two climb over a trash can and they continued running but what she didn't know was that there was a dead end and when they arrived, she couldn't climb the fence as all of the policemen arrived with tasers in their hands.

"What a game, huh? Now get in the car and don't make us force you," he said, sternly. "What do you want with us, genuinely?" "I'm just following orders, kid. Now please, get in the damn car," he said, getting mad. Tracey and Magdalene obeyed where Maryne hesitated. Her sister could be losing her mind and now she's going to jail.

She tried to map out an escape but there were none as she accepted defeat and followed the duo. Upon entering the car, they drove them to the same cell as Lishawn as Maryne tried calling Lishawn again but no response.

They entered their cell as they couldn't help but see the men in black as they escorted the chief to the car outside. "You think it has anything to do with us?" "Most definitely," Maryne agreed, anger fueling her.

"Lishawn?" Her mom called out, dropping her luggage on the floor. She searched the dining room and kitchen but did not gain success as she repeatedly called out her name. She then saw the bright light appear from underneath her daughter's door as she became concerned. She opened up the door and squinted her eyes as the light within the room almost blinded her.

"Oh my gosh, Lishawn! Why is your room so bright this time of day?" she asked but Lishawn was deep in sleep. She went over and shaked Lishawn who jerked in fear as her mom too got shocked. "Damn it, Mom. A little heads up would be nice next time," she said, moving the flash around. "Sweetie, what's going on?" Her mom asked, flummoxed. "You won't understand. Nobody will," she said, closing her eyes.

Lishawn's mom got more worried when she saw how she set up her room. There was light everywhere, every corner and every little hint of darkness was blessed by light. She stressed when she saw her oldest daughter shake and shiver so fast as if she had to stay awake or look out for something. "Lishawn, honey. Tell me what's wrong with you?" "You won't understand mom. You won't believe me if I tell you because I've tried but everyone thinks I'm mad when I'm not," "But what this is... Is concerning. It's not you. You're right. I will never be me ever again," Lishawn said, gasping as her mom blocked one of the torches' lights.

Her mom left the room sick as she headed for her purse and discovered the same card given to her by the policemen was still there and she was happy as she eyed Lishawn's bedroom door and without a second thought, she called the number.

They arrived as her mom pointed upstairs and they headed there where they tried to negotiate with Lishawn. "Hey, Lishawn. I'm Dr Parker. Why don't you come with us for a while?" he asked but she got mad. "Are you f*cking kidding me right now! Mom, you bi-" "-Lishawn, your mom is worried about you. I mean, look at your surroundings... You're not okay," the doctor said as he moved closer. "Please, let us help you," moving closer.

Lishawn wanted to argue but she was too focused on the area that was being blocked as she got scared and literally jumped on the doctor when the others intervened and managed to drag her to the bed where she continued to move violently.

"You don't understand. I can't leave here. I CAN'T LEAVE WITHOUT MY TORCH," She cried as they cuffed her and helped her leave her room. She wanted to be persist but she gave up until she passed by the refrigerator and saw four eyes glow red as white teeth appeared in a smiling form.

Seconds later after fighting, the doctors gave her something to calm down as they placed her comfortably in the car and drove off once her mom got in. Lishawn's mom was so concerned that she burst into tears during the ride. She didn't understand what was going on with her daughter and why all of a sudden she only worsened as they neared the asylum.

"LET US GO!" Maryne screamed as she kept hitting her bottle against the silver bars. Finally, the chief made his way to her as the other two joined her. "The reason you are in this cell is that you three airheads thought you could do this and not get in trouble," "Oh, I'm sorry we're actually trying to understand this thing and learn its weakness," Tracey argued. "Here's the thing, we already have professionals who are busy with the case as we speak and don't need three teenage girls instead of partying and doing dumb stuff, out here travelling old men after stealing from the evidence room and making them crazier. You're lucky not sending you guys to female juvi," the chief said as more men in the back walked in and they prepared a walkway for him.

"Chief, you're wrong! You can't just not let us finish what we've started. We're so close to figuring it out, we have to sto-" "-Give it up, Maryne. You're playing in the spider's web and you're gonna get so stuck you can't move," he said, following one of the men and completely ignoring Maryne.

"We can't let him get away with this!" she said. "So what do you propose we do?" Magdalene asked. Before Maryne could answer, she got a text from her mom which read

Sweetie, your sister has been admitted to EA Feumann Mental Asylum. If you get this, I suggest you come visit because they are not sure for how long she'll there in here. Love, Mom

Maryne dropped the phone as she fell to her knees and cried. She told the two as they tried to console her. "My sister is being attacked by this THING and now she's been admitted to a psychotic place. I can't let this place win, not anymore," she said as they huddled.

They carried Lishawn as she got more and more violent, pinching and scratching the residents' hands. The more she looked around, the more it's eyes and mouths appeared the corners as Lishawn wanted to go home. Throwing her in the cell, she left her as one of the nurses approached her mom. "She's going to be alright. The first week is always tough but aster that she'll be fine," he told her as she burst into tears.

She wanted to go a see her daughter but she the got another phone call as she answered and heard Maryne's voice.

"Hey, Mom. It's be Maryne. I won't be able to come to the institution. "What's going on? Where are you, Maryne?""Don't freak out, I'm in jail," she said as her tried to stay speechless but Lishawn's scream couldn't take it anymore as she dropped the call and made her way there.

Lishawn sat on her bed crawled up as the creature didn't waste time to make lose her mind.

You're all alone. Look at you, a living psychopath. You're nothing.

The whispers got louder as she tried covering her ears but it didn't work as the whispers became louder as the lights in the room began to flicker and everyone started appearing as a vine charged from the toilet right in her mouth, Lishawn struggling to take it out of her mouth but it was strong as she did the unthinkable and bit it, black liquid dripping her mouth. She managed to take out her small torch as the vine went back into the toilet but the whispers continued.

The chief arrived in the mayor's office as he took a seat and made himself comfortable. "Okay, tell me what the issue is here? What's so bad that the police can't handle?" "It's the case of the disappearing kids and adults," the chief said, unpacking her bag and revealing the cases. "My team and I went to one of the most insane cities where hundreds of kids went missing one night except one girl. Now we thought it was her but got crucial evidence of this... Thing," Chief says as he takes out the container with the weak vine.

"It's far from its host so it's useless," he said but the mayor did not respond.

The mayor couldn't believe it as his memories came flooding back from his childhood and he remembers one night when he went out to throw away the trash, the same vine but longer came out of the rubbish bin and wrapped itself around his neck as he struggled to breathe as another vine grabbed him by his kegs and pulled him in the bin just as his sister appeared and the vines disappeared, making him look insane. After that, the mayor never went near a trash can ever again.

"Mayor?" the chief asked as his senses came back to him. "So, what do you say we should do next?" Chief awaited an answer as the mayor went and took out a key. "You know where this thing lives right?" "Yes, sir," "Bomb it," he said, everyone in the room stunned.

"Are you sure sir? Bomb?" "Yes. This thing will not have a chance to see the next day so bomb it. That factory and it itself, broken into pieces and then damaged go debris," the mayor said, everyone still surprised by his answer. "Okay, sir. Tomorrow my team will head to the factory and destroy it," Chief said as he left the office and alerted his team.

"I really need to pee," Tracey lied. "No." "But I'm a female and my gender is known for not having capable bladders plus I think I might be on my period," she lied again but the guard got convinced. He then took the keys and headed for the cell as he unlocked the gate and the two, Magdalene and Maryne jumped on him as they tied his hands. "What do you kids think you're doing!" he exclaimed as more cops joined in. In defense mode, Maryne grabbed the gun and pointed it to the cop who was tied up as the rest placed theirs back in their pockets. Once they reached the doors, she threw the gun and they ran deep in the forest, away from the police station as one of them alerted the chief.

She jumped on top of her bed near the light as the vines came from multiple parts and tried entering her mouth ear or nose. She immediately screamed towards the camera that was watching her, not knowing that they couldn't see what she was seeing. The whispers then stopped as a new voice approached her and she stood still. It was Marynes.

"I know you want me, Lishawn. After all, you never got the chance to actually be my older sister. You never wanted us to have a bond. You always disregarded me... But now we can finally have fun and have a bond so pure eternity is the best part. All you have to do is come and make things right with me. Come here. Come to me," it mimicked her voice as one of the vines damaged the light and the creature attacked Lishawn to the ground.

As she tried fighting and screaming, it didn't waste time opening it's mouth and licking her face with its long tongue. But before it could bite, one of the nurses arrived with food as they opened the door and Lishawn pushed them out of the way. She ran fleetly for any exit as the alarm went off and the rest of the nurses chased after her just as she saw the exit and before she could make it, she tripped on something and hit her face against the solid floor.

The nurses arrived as they gripped her and dragged her back to her room where she looked at different rooms and kept seeing the creature as it's smile grew wider and wider until she neared her room and it stood there with blood dripping down it's mouth. As they locked the door and kept her there, she took out the torch she stole from one of them and waved around, staying strong in the fight even if she was still close to being eaten.
