These days were hell… but a useful kind of hell.

Crunch… crunch…

I had grown used to that damn sound.

I pretended to sleep every day because I knew it would slither out of its hole, bite me, and then go hunt insects as if it were living a normal day.

I'm talking about my despicable roommate… that snake.

But today was different.

I forced a gentle smile… so gentle that if you saw me, you might think I was a saint.

Hahahahaha…

The snake slowly approached, eyes fixed on me, then suddenly lunged at my neck.

But this time…

With a swift motion, I grabbed it before it could retreat.

[Received 100 system coins]

[Received 25 experience points]

[Level Up! You have reached Level 7 (120/240)]

[Due to toxin tolerance: Acquired Poison Resistance – Excellent]

[Due to using strong venom: Strength, Speed, and Endurance increased by 3 points each]

[Night Banner skill upgraded to Excellent]

Wow… all that?

The rewards were far better than I imagined.

But before celebrating…

I raised my hand and looked at the snake, still trembling from its failed escape attempt.

I smiled.

"Hahahahaha… now it's revenge time."

I gripped it tightly… and cut it in half.

Then I began to eat it slowly, licking the blood that had caused me so much pain.

"Goodbye… former roommate."

After finishing my delicious meal, I stretched slightly in my spot before adjusting my posture to sit more comfortably.

I took a deep breath and opened the system screen in front of me.

I distributed the free points evenly between Strength, Speed, and Endurance.

I didn't know if it was the right choice, but—I'm no combat expert anyway—and I had no time to learn.

Once the points were allocated… the screen trembled slightly before shifting into a new display:

Just seeing it like this gave me an amazing feeling… not immense power, but a noticeable change.

My eyes became sharper, my night vision farther and clearer than before.

My muscles were more prepared for movement, and my breathing felt less strained.

"Umm… what should I do now? Let's—"

Click.

The sound of the door opening cut my thoughts like a blade.

I froze in place, my back straightening automatically, heart pounding.

Is it time to start?

I lowered my head slowly, trying to look calm, though my mind raced in a hundred directions.

Is it time…?

Has it been four months since…?

Will it go the way it did in the story…?

Everything I had gone through in the past hours flashed through my mind at once.

And the worst thought… the dirty truth I didn't want to admit…

I was about to be forced to kill children.

Children…? Damn…

This is horrible… horribly indescribable.

But… can I back out?

In this world… the weak are buried.

Hesitation… is just another form of death.

Tiiii—

The door swung fully open.

A young boy stepped inside, black hair falling over his forehead, clothes almost identical to mine… but what immediately caught my attention wasn't his appearance, it was the faint red glow in his eyes.

It wasn't bright… more like a blood thread moving behind the cornea whenever the light shifted.

The first thought in my head?

The main character.

He stood by the door calmly… a cold calm, unnatural for a child his age.

His eyes scanned the room like thermal sensors.

He didn't speak at first…

Just watched… evaluated… ran probability scenarios: attack, defense, trap, intent to kill.

His composure was contagious… yet terrifying at the same time.

I knew this type… the lone wolf.

The one who trusts no one, who extends his hand only when absolutely forced.

And if I didn't show my intentions, he would imagine the worst about me.

I stood calmly, trying not to show any threat.

I smiled lightly, a calm smile without aggression:

"Hello… my name is Su Ming. May I get to know my little brother?"

He fixed his gaze on me. No immediate reply.

His eyes were sharp, as if reading my pulse.

After a long few seconds… he bowed his head slightly in a simple greeting and said in a low but steady voice:

"I am… Bio Wol."

His voice wasn't shy…

Nor impulsive…

It was the voice of someone who chooses his words carefully, someone who speaks only when necessary.

He deserved to be the main character.

The look in his eyes… that mix of caution, suppressed fear, and intelligence…

The look of a survivor.

A person who learned from day one that the world doesn't care about his tears.

His posture was unusual too…

His body slightly lowered, as if ready to pounce or retreat at any moment.

I said to him in a cool, gentle tone:

"Are there others?"

I already knew the answer… but I wanted to break the ice between us, or at least see if he was lying.

He shook his head slightly, his tone steady:

"I haven't met anyone… until now."

Then he fell silent.

I asked:

"Would you mind if I accompany you for a while?"

This sentence was a test for both sides.

I tested his reaction…

He tested my intent.

He didn't hesitate.

He didn't object.

He simply said in his usual calm voice:

"…No."

That was enough.

His ease… wasn't a form of kindness.

It was a rational decision: having another person around reduced the chance of early death.

As for me… I realized the road ahead with him would be even more complicated.

This boy… Bio Wol… possessed a presence beyond his age.

His intelligence, observation, caution, reactions—everything about him screamed:

"I am not prey."

And I couldn't help but feel… a shiver down my spine.
