Chapter 4 - Automatic battle in a nutshell

Kingdom of Lombards

Forum Livii

One week ago...

Giuliano and over two hundred marines were carrying the 81mm mortar and all the battalion's military weaponry.

The Lombards looked over the walls of the city of Forum Livii, very puzzled, at soldiers without swords or bows and arrows.

The marines were divided into three flanks: the central flank, which had the 81mm mortar; the right flank, which had cavalry for any flanking attempts; and the left flank, which had the marines and some collaborators who were guiding the Ravennate army's journey

Giuliano then watched the marines prepare for battle and was personally observing the battle preparations.

Giuliano, then remembering the stories his nephew Frederico liked to read, asked:

"System, how much Lombard garrison is there in Forum Livii?" asked Giuliano.

For a few moments, it seemed that Giuliano had lost all shame in doing something so crude; it might have seemed strange, but this was the height of absurdity.

But to Giuliano's surprise, a bell rang in his mind and a screen appeared with a 3D version of Forum Livii.

[At your service, here is the Lombard garrison of Forum Livii.]

[The not-so-brave ones]

[500 levy garrison, 200 archers and 100 heavy infantry Lombard, led by Agiulfus of Amalfi]

Giuliano was impressed; after all, this thing was following his orders, but for any occasion, it would only be used for military, administrative, and religious matters.

Then Giuliano gave the order:

"System, I order you to show me how Ravenna is doing administratively." ordered Giuliano.

After a few seconds, a screen appeared with a 3D version of the city of Ravenna.

[At your service, here it is]

[Ravenna]

[Political influence: 1.40%]

[Bureaucratic power: 1.30%]

[Administrative power: 1.20%]

[Religious influence: 1.10%]

[Iron: + 140]

Giuliano then said:

"That's quite strange, Frederico would like to have a system, but this is still strange." Giuliano said.

Giuliano then met with the three marine commanders and asked:

"Alessandro, Bruno, and Marco, have the Lombards moved outside the walls?" Giuliano asked.

Alessandro Rossini Giulio, former Third Lieutenant Rossini, now promoted to General of the Ravennate Roman Army, answered first:

"My king, the Lombards haven't moved outside the walls; we'll have to use the Panzerfaust to break down the city gate." Alessandro replied.

Bruno Mazzini Jacobo, former Second Lieutenant Mazzini, now Captain Mazzini of the Roman Ravennate army, replied:

"My king, we must not wait any longer, we must take Forum Livii and we must be quick." Bruno replied.

Marco Omero Polo, former First Lieutenant Omero, now Lieutenant Colonel Omero replied:

"We have superior technology; these guys aren't Alexander the Great's army, or the Greek mercenaries of Xenophon's time. They surrender with much less, imagine us who possess firearms! They should fall today!" Marco replied.

Giuliano then replied:

"So let's not stand idly by any longer, call in all the marines! Forum Livii will fall back into Roman hands today! Send in all the weapons you can muster!" Giuliano replied.

With this meeting, the city's fate had already been sealed; the Lombards didn't even see the abrupt change in its walls.

Giuliano then watched the entire battle from his tent on the screen. The battle lasted only 10 minutes, and their leader was killed when the city gate fell, and finally the message appeared.

[Roman ravennate full victory!]

[Lombard army decimated and Western Roman population free!]

[+ 1 in commando]

Giuliano then said:

"It was very easy, I think controlling these cities will be more difficult than fighting." said Giuliano.
