Chapter 38 - The Feast Before The Flood

 The Feast Before the Flood

Lord of Greed sat high upon his throne, an obsidian monstrosity carried by four colossal demons, each the size of a small building. Their muscles rippled beneath cracked skin, their eyes hollow with obedience.

The army marched beneath him. A sea of demons. Too many to count. A flood of claws, wings, and snarling mouths, all surging toward Paradise City.

The Lord of Greed raised a clawed hand.

 "Face," he called.

From the shadows emerged his most trusted advisor, a towering creature with three heads: one on the left, one on the right, and one in the center, which did all the speaking. Dark wings stretched behind him, and his body was carved from pure muscle. Violence radiated from him like heat.

"How far are we from the city?"

Face's central head spoke, voice like grinding stone.

"Scouts report we are two miles out. The woods shield our movement until we reach the city walls."

Lord of Greed smiled a jagged grin with rows of teeth stacked like razors.

 "Excellent. We attack at night."

Face tilted his head. "My Lord, why wait? We could be there in two hours. Darkness is longer away."

Lord of Greed leaned forward, amused.

"Face, you make sense. Yes, you do. But I am Lord, am I not?"

Face bowed. "Yes, sire."

"Do you require an explanation as well?"

Face lowered his gaze. "No, sire."

 "Good. Then let us feast."

He rose, voice booming across the battlefield.

 "My fellow servants!"

The march halted. Every demon turned, listening.

"Our task nears completing Compassion City lies ahead. But before the reckoning begins, we rest. We feast!"

A roar of approval surged through the ranks.

"You are fine soldiers. You deserve the highest hospitality before history bends to our will."

The demons howled in celebration.

Lord of Greed sat back, basking in their praise. He turned to face, eyes gleaming. "History changes tonight."
