The one‑eyed demon lay tied against a tree, barely able to keep his only eyelid open. Sophie's arrow was still lodged in the ruined socket. She sat across from him, sharpening another arrow, glancing at Thomas still unconscious beside the fire."You've got two minutes," Sophie said coldly. "Convince me not to cut your ugly head off." The demon panicked instantly, words spilling out too fast to understand."HEY," Sophie snapped. "Slow. Start from the beginning."The demon gulped. "O‑okay… demons have a chain of command. Levels. Some stronger than others." Sophie leaned forward. "Which ones?""You know the mutant you and your friend fought in the compound?" the demon said. "That was a Captain Demon. All captains are that strong… or stronger." Sophie's jaw tightened. She took in every word."A captain leads hundreds," the demon continued. "A whole group usually follows them." Sophie frowned. "How do you tell which is a captain? They all look huge." The demon shook his head. "No. Only some. The rest… you'll know when you see them."Sophie crossed her arms. "We killed the Lord of Flies and the Lord of Violence. Why should we worry about captains?" The demon's voice dropped. "Because you may have taken out a prince… but don't let that fool you. A legion is only as powerful as its leader." Sophie's eyes narrowed. "So you're saying these creatures are going to get stronger?"The demon nodded. "Yes. Not because they're powerful… but because Lucifer is. He's not just a king he's the supreme commander of every legion. We all recieve bits of Lucifer's power. He can give strength to any demon he chooses." Sophie's voice softened, but only slightly. "How is that even possible?" The demon hesitated. "Your friend… the one who passed. The confused one." Sophie froze. Edwin. The demon continued quietly. "He was powerful. But when Lucifer blessed him… he became something else. Stronger. Darker." Sophie said nothing she listened carefully. "There's a catch," the demon whispered. "Lucifer gives power… but he scars the mind. Nightmares. Voices. Some demons master it and become unstoppable. Others… like the mutant… lose themselves completely." Sophie swallowed hard. The demon lowered his head. "Your friend Edwin… he was a true protégé. Rising fast. If you heroes hadn't stopped him… the world would've burned even worse. Humans and demons alike feared him." Sophie exhaled slowly. "Fine. You live. For now." The demon sagged in relief. Then he looked up. "Hero… let me help you."Sophie narrowed her eyes. "How?" The demon leaned forward, voice dropping to a whisper."I know people who can help you win this war.""Who?" Sophie asked. The demon's voice trembled."They're called… the Blind Sisters."
