When I heard those words, I completely froze. 'Do you think my whole story is a sick joke to you?', I questioned Nadia. She replied with tears falling from her eyes,'What do you mean? It's me Robert, it's me. I never came here to look for a crush, I came here to find you.'
I stood up, clinched my fist and with my other arm, I pointed at her and asked,' And how am I supposed to believe that? I saw Dima's body getting pulled out of the fire! How do I simple believe you!?'
Nadia whipped her tears and said,' On the same night, you were in your room. I had gone to use the restroom, but while I was going back, I saw mom and dad coming home early. Right before I was about to call them, they whispered "Shhh- comedown quick". I curiously sneaked to them, they covered my eyes and took me to the kitchen. They said it was a surprise so I was quite excited, after a while they allowed me to open my eyes. And before my eyes, I saw a girl the same age as mine, turns out our parents had adopted another girl...Her name was Nadia. I was really excited to see her, but then suddenly I heard a tick sound. And all of a sudden a huge blast, the ceiling had fell and the room caught fire immediately. Our parents got stuck along with Nadia, I was soo terrified I couldn't even speak. Then my parents told me to run, I hesitated but then I gathered the courage and jumped out the window.'
I fell to my knees,' You're lying, No. No. No. No. No. No. No no no no no. It can't be true! But if you did run away, how did you survive?'. She said while snorting,' When I got out of the house, I tried to go to the nearest police station. But because aunt casses house arrives before the station, I decided to go there. I ran like never before, it took me a while but I eventually arrived to aunt casses house. I rushed to the door and asked her to call the police. Once she did that, she asked me what had happened. I explained everything, when she heard that her face turned pale. She asked me about you, that was when I realised that I had left you behind. My heart sank, i couldn't believe how stupid I could be.
' I asked aunt Cass how could that happen, she explained that it had to have been the rival company. We waited for a info from the police, but the longer we waited the more nervous we got. After a while, aunt Cass decided to go to the police station herself, I insisted to go along. She accepted and we both got in the car. But when we arrived at the station and asked what had happened, we got to know that the team was killed on their way. Back up had been sent and they described the place to have nobody there. The fire was out, no bodies, nothing. After hearing that aunt Cass was sure that it was not an accident. It was planned to kill everyone in the house, including me. But because you weren't related, they might let you live. And she was right.'
I stared at her in complete shock,'Does that mean, the people who got there weren't the police?'. Nadia nodded her head, I was speechless...just a while ago I was dancing and now I just found my long lost sister. Nadia walked up to me and picked me up, and we started walking to class. While on the way, she said,' But you know one thing Robert, when I think about it...I don't want to be Dima, I don't want to be a sister. I want to stay as Nadia, a friend of yours like no other. Do you accept?"
I paused for a bit, but I really didn't wanted to cry about the past and think about it over and over again, I wanted to get a fresh start, so I smiled and said,' Is that why you kept your name as Nadia?'. We both laughed and arrived to class. Well, we weren't selected for the dance but that didn't bother much. As I open the classroom door, I start hearing gossips about us. I go to my seat quietly, and wait for the teacher. Soon enough, the teacher arrives and as soon as he got there, he asked me and Nadia,' Why are you two here? You're supposed to be at the dance class, you got selected.'
Nadia's eyes light up like a candle, but me...I just wanted to rest. Now we have to practice even more. We walk to the dance class, I was wining the whole way. And once I got there, people started to approach us. And I couldn't believe it, they were complementing us. I personally was really surprised by that, but then the teacher ordered us to line up with their partners and listen to her closely. She explained that the festival week would be held in about a month after that day. She told us a lot more such as the dress code and other crucial things. After that she allowed us to practice for the time being, but I wasn't really comfortable with it. I could feel everyone staring at us, but as I was thinking about that, I realized. They aren't looking at us in a bad way, atleast not now. They are actually looking at us in a good way, after motivating myself, I gathered the confidence but ended up slipping and falling face flat on the ground.
Quiet embarrassed, but then practice was over. It was time to head home, on the way I got some groceries aswell for dinner. As we were going to our own rooms, I paused. Then I started heading towards Nadia and hugged her. After that I whispered in her ear,' I missed Dima a lot.'
After hearing that she gave a sigh of relief and said,' I was worried about Robert aswell.'
