Evelin's POV
The silence that followed was deafening. Not a sound echoed through the room.
Jensen's laughter erupted—wild, unhinged, completely unnatural.
"Jimmy, my boy, someday you'll understand—every word I spoke was for your benefit! The deeper your love for Evelin runs now, the more it'll shatter and destroy you later!"
The following morning, Jimmy and I made our way to the hospital to check on Alice.
Her condition had improved slightly, though yesterday's kidnapping ordeal and all the chaos had triggered another spike in her fever.
When I arrived, Alice was deep in sleep, with Rex maintaining his quiet vigil at her bedside.
"Rex, I'm so sorry," I said, shame flooding my features.
None of this would've happened to Alice if it weren't for the mess between Jimmy and me.
"The person who should apologize is the kidnapper, not you," Rex replied softly. "Actually, I owe you my gratitude—you saved Alice."
