Jimmy's POV
"Don't... go to my father!" I gasped, fighting through the haze of pain to stay conscious just a little longer. "Eve, listen to me. You need to... go back home. I'll deal with my father myself..."
"Even if I don't seek him out, he'll come after me anyway. Besides—" She stopped, her fingertips softly brushing across my forehead. "I never intended to abandon you to face this alone. Since I picked you, we should confront everything as a team, right?"
Her tender tone felt like a soothing melody. My eyelids grew impossibly heavy, surrendered to her warmth.
"Rest now, just for a bit. When you come to, you'll understand what needs to be done," she murmured quietly.
My eyes finally surrendered, closing as everything dissolved into blackness.
The final sensation I registered was her warm breath against my ear and her soft voice whispering, "Jimmy, I'll be okay, and you will be too."
