In a large room with a domed ceiling, twelve individuals gathered around a large round table that contained details on all candidates blessed by the spirit of fire that has applied to the academy across the empire.
"She is a danger." a female instructor with short cyan hair stated, as the deliberation concerning Princess Marina's entrance into the academic began.
"When given absurd requests." Zandra Aile said with emphasis on "absurd" as she glared at Auralith Kane.
"I had the pleasure of overseeing the creation test and Princess Marina has quick wit, ingenuity that is hard to find and the confidence to explore new things. Out of all the candidates present on this table, Princess Marina deserves to be admitted to the academy more than anyone else." said Zandra Aile.
"Such high praise." said a man with black hair and gray eyes on the opposite end of Zandra Aile.
"Yet she fell apart from a simple test." the man said with a sly smile on his lips.
"Simple is being told to jump as high as you can." Xeroxe Tal said, as he looked at the black haired man with a dull gaze.
"Simple is not handing over an ore with ninety eight percent impurity to a nine year old child to refine with a time limit of twenty minutes!" Xerose Tal said with a glare.
"Enough!" said the Dean of the Academy for those blessed by the spirit of fire.
"Princess Marina will be admitted into the academy." The Dean said and Zandra Aile and Xerose Tal relaxed.
"But I cannot ignore the fact that she is a potential danger." The Dean said and both Zandra Aile and Xerose Tal tensed up again.
"A danger can be controlled." said the man known as Pyralex Wyren.
"And yet High instructor Alec failed to do so." said a female with straight red hair, blue eyes and freckles.
"If someone like high instructor Alec has difficulty in tackling a matter such as this who here other than the Dean can say with full confidence that they can control her?" the woman said and silence swept the room.
Feeling the need to say something, high instructor Alec said "Princess Marina is only difficult because I underestimated her, there were other means to suppress her overload but believing that her power wouldn't be as great as an adult's I miscalculated." with a little bit of shame at the last past of his sentence.
"Nevertheless," the Dean said and all attention returned back to him.
"Princess Marina will be admitted and the one who saved her from her overload, Lorraine Paul" the Dean of the Academy for those blessed by the spirit of fire said as he picked up a file with Lorraine's name.
"Will also be admitted." said the Dean of the academy of those blessed by the spirit of fire.
"Now that we are done deliberating on all candidates for the academy this year, it's time to deliberate on the punishment for instructor Auralith Kane." The Dean said without a change in his expression.
The Imperial Palace
Princess Marina's room
"From the moment she got her awakening, I knew that I had given birth to an extremely powerful child." The Moon of the empire said as she brushed back the hair on Princess Marina's forehead.
"And as I watched her grow I knew she wouldn't be simple but does it have to be this way?" the Moon of the empire asked in sorrow.
"Must I always hear news of her, always being in critical condition?" asked the Moon of the empire as she kissed Princess Marina's knuckles.
"She doesn't have to be a symbol." The Moon of the empire said as she hugged her child to her chest.
"She doesn't have to prove anything." The Moon of the empire said as she prayed to the Goddess.
"I will never be ashamed of my child for being blessed with the spirit of fire so please," the Moon of the empire said as tears welled up in her eyes.
"Reduce the tribulations you give to her." The Moon of the empire said as tears fell from her eyes.
"The hunt was a success but does an entrance test need to be a grand affair?" The Moon of the empire asked in frustration.
"Injured by black birds, violent convulsions from overload, all in a span of weeks!" The Moon of the empire said as she gripped her dress in frustration.
"I will not bury a child!" The Moon of the empire said as she hugged Princess Marina's sleeping body to her in desperation.
"Please." The Moon of the empire said as she wept silently for thirty minutes.
After thirty minutes, a knock sounded and a servant on the opposite end of the door said "The Sun of the Empire is requesting your presence for the meeting with the instructors of the Academy."
"I will attend." The Moon of the empire said as she kissed Princess Marina's forehead, dried her eyes, arranged her gown and marched out of the room with her head held high and her shoulders back.
Opening her eyes when she was sure that her mother had left the room, Princess Marina wept bitterly because for the first time in forever, someone wept for her.
