"Welcome, Young Miss and Young Master. I've come with all the best samples which I have for you two to try on," the head tailor greeted the two of them as they entered the main hall and began showing them each of the popular pieces.
"These purple robes adorned with a golden dragon imprint are greatly sought after by all the marriageable couples right now. The yellow robes which you see there…"
The head tailor kept introducing them to different matching pieces with unique designs. There were a lot of them, more than a hundred.
Glancing towards Feng Yu, who was paying great attention to the head tailor's words and even asked him a few questions from time to time while checking the robe's material, Yi Chen couldn't help but sigh in relief.
'Looks like I depend upon her for this one,' he thought to himself, 'Aren't all women good at these things? I'll just act like I'm somewhat contributing here and there and let her do the large share of the decision making,'
With this, Yi Chen started nodding even more greatly to the tailor's explanations and started looking for little things to point out to show that he was putting in some effort as well.
Luckily, he didn't have to wait for long, as just the next set of robes that were introduced gave him enough things to point out.
"This, This and This," Pointing towards a few golden robes with white patterns, Yi Chen said, "These glittery designs are too excessive and needlessly showy for a sacred function like engagement, let's rule them out."
"Most certainly, Young Master," the head tailor gestured to his nearby assistant and the gaudy robes were soon put aside.
At the same time, because of this incident, the head tailor couldn't help but form a much better image of Yi Chen and praised, "Young Master, you have a much better eye compared to other young people your age. Most of them now prefer excessively shiny and ornate things on their robes, even though it ends up spoiling the overall balance of the design."
Hearing the unexpected praise, Yi Chen couldn't help but feel good about himself as he thought, 'Well, of course, unlike those inexperienced chaps, I'm a product of the twenty-first century. Even indirectly, I've witnessed such complex clothing designs which these brats could never compare with,'
However, outwardly, he still tried to maintain a humble attitude and said with a short chuckle, "Haha, you jest. I just applied my common sense. Just like how too much sugar spoils the taste, too showy designs take more away from clothes than they give. Sometimes, less is more."
"An excellent analogy, Young Master. You're truly a dragon among men," The head tailor genuinely praised. He was really impressed by the maturity that lay in Yi Chen's words.
A sheepish expression formed on Yi Chen's face when he heard the words of praise again, but he soon shook it off and pointed out a few other things in the robes.
Meanwhile, Feng Yu, who was listening to this exchange from the side, had her forehead creased in thought.
"Less is more…" she lightly murmured and stared at Yi Chen, who was still talking with the head tailor.
'Just when I feel like I've come to understand him a little better, he showcases a completely different side of himself and completely amazes me…' She thought to herself.
Suddenly glancing at the set of robes, which all seemed good to her, she finally made a decision.
"Chen'er, how about you select the design of our robes? I believe that compared to me, you'll be able to do much better in choosing a perfect matching robe."
"I-I think you're more observant than me, Yu'er…so it's best that you make this decision." Hearing this, Yi Chen immediately tried to push the task back on Feng Yu.
"No, I insist. Unlike you, all those showy designs also looked pretty to me, so I think it's best if you make the final decision," Feng Yu replied with expectant eyes.
However, these eyes weren't enough to melt Yi Chen, who wanted to avoid this tedious task. He was about to give another excuse to get away with the task when suddenly the head tailor decided to butt in.
"I completely agree with you, Young Miss. Young Master seems to have a natural artistic side to him. Letting him make the final decision is indeed a wise decision," the head tailor said enthusiastically.
With the additional support, the situation suddenly tilted in Feng Yu's favour, and the defeated Yi Chen could only accept his fate.
'Me and my bloody mouth…' he cursed himself as he busied himself in selecting the right set of robes for them.
Half assing it was no longer an option after he had stoked the expectation of both Feng Yu and the head tailor.
So, for the next four hours, Yi Chen went through a variety of robes and designs and by the end of this gruelling period, he finally decided on a particular sample robe, and after discussing with Feng Yu, he advised on the design, they wanted to be imprinted on it.
When the group of tailors left the main hall, Yi Chen exhaled deeply in exhaustion and said with a weak tone, "Is it time for lunch? I'm dying from hunger."
A soft chuckle escaped Feng Yu's lips when she saw Yi Chen's antics as she replied, "Yes, it's time. Let's go,"
With that said, they left for the dining hall and during lunch were informed by Master Ru that the Jeweller was to arrive at four in the evening.
Seeing that he still had an hour left after finishing the meal, Yi Chen rushed to his room to rest. He felt that if he didn't, then he might just collapse from mental exhaustion while choosing an engagement ring with Feng Yu.
While all this was happening, Elder Jing, who was sitting in a meditative position in her room, had just taken out another batch of spirit stones from her pendant and was absorbing them all.
Her Qi absorption rate was pretty fast, but despite that, a layer of dissatisfaction was apparent on her face.
