"Who?"
Aiden, who had been walking forward, stopped and looked back with a startled, uncertain expression.
"Thump, thump, thump."
Footsteps sounded, but no one was visible.
The footsteps had appeared abruptly, and a moment later, Aiden realized he couldn't tell where they were coming from.
After turning back and seeing only an empty corridor, he turned around again, cautiously observing his surroundings.
"Diffindo."
A flash of spell light appeared. Sensing something was wrong, Aiden dodged to the side, then looked toward the source of the sound.
But his reaction was clearly not as fast as the person hiding in the dark, and his peripheral vision only caught a glimpse of a wizard's robe.
At the same time, his wand moved with extreme speed, casting a spell behind him.
Dust kicked up, obscuring their vision.
Aiden cautiously stepped forward.
The surroundings seemed empty, yet there was a genuine, eerie silence.
All he could hear was his own breathing and the sound of his beating heart.
The dust gradually dispersed, and the figure from before had vanished. He didn't let his guard down because of this and continued to move carefully, holding his wand with a serious expression.
After walking for some time without further attacks, he couldn't help but quicken his pace.
He arrived at a fork in the path. Both corridors were pitch black, and nothing could be seen.
Here, Aiden hesitated.
He didn't know if he should continue walking.
Facing this dangerous place, Aiden thought for a moment, then turned back.
He walked all the way into the girls' lavatory. Myrtle, who was usually always there, was gone.
He didn't know where she had run off to this time.
Aiden walked to the sink and reached his hand under the faucet, sure enough, feeling some raised areas.
If he felt carefully, he could tell that these raised positions connected to form a small snake.
As expected, the Slytherin Chamber of Secrets had not changed its specific location.
Unfortunately, he wasn't a Parseltongue and couldn't open this passage.
After feeling the snake carving intently, Aiden walked away and began to survey the surroundings.
He held his wand and leaned against the wall.
Whenever he opened a door, his wand quickly pointed inside the toilet stall.
If anyone was inside, they would be met with Aiden's merciless Stupefy.
He opened the toilet doors one by one. The empty stalls relieved him somewhat.
As he opened the last door, Aiden caught sight of Myrtle floating slightly above him, still suspended in the air.
His face instantly stiffened.
Myrtle's wide-eyed, terrified expression seemed to tell of some unknown horror she had experienced.
Her body was rigid. As a ghost, she should theoretically be unable to touch anyone or anything.
But now, she remained frozen in that terrified expression, her body spinning slowly in mid-air.
Aiden reached out, holding onto some hope, but when his fingers touched the wizard's robe on Myrtle's body, that hope vanished without a trace.
His hand touched Myrtle's body, and what that meant was self-evident.
Aiden wouldn't assume that Myrtle could be as special as Peeves.
"The plot has changed, is it because of me?"
In the original story, Myrtle had never been attacked.
Although it felt far-fetched, it was true. Myrtle, who always lingered at the entrance, had perfectly avoided every outing of the Basilisk.
But now, evidently, her luck had run out.
Aiden turned his head. Looking from Myrtle's perspective, he could just see a small puddle reflecting the moon.
This helped him largely understand what had happened.
It must have been when the Basilisk emerged. Myrtle happened to open the toilet door, met the Basilisk's eyes in the puddle, and was instantly petrified.
She had probably only just reacted.
Looking at the terrified expression on Myrtle's face and her partial movements, it could be inferred that when Myrtle opened the door, she saw the Basilisk in the puddle, and while feeling fear, she likely also tried to hide again.
But just as she made a move, she was already petrified.
Aiden took two steps back and solemnly closed the door.
Then he used a Scourgify spell on the toilet door in front of him, erasing his traces.
He didn't see Ginny Weasley. Perhaps she, being controlled, had already left, or perhaps she was waiting nearby for him to leave the lavatory.
He took two steps back, the moonlight illuminating his face and highlighting his profile.
Without much hesitation, Aiden once again covered himself with the Invisibility Cloak, then prepared to leave.
But before he could make his next move, footsteps sounded from outside the lavatory.
Aiden's heart jumped. He quickly moved toward the exit, wanting to leave before the person outside came in.
But the moment he reached the door, the first thing that met his eyes were the deep blue eyes of Albus Dumbledore.
At this moment, Aiden was truly nervous.
He hadn't expected Dumbledore to come here personally. He had thought that even if Cedric Diggory sought help, it would only be a few professors.
Aiden quickly retreated to the side and failed to notice Dumbledore's almost imperceptible glance.
After Dumbledore entered, Cedric, Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, and Gilderoy Lockhart all walked into the lavatory together.
"Is this it?"
"It should be here, Professor!"
Cedric stepped forward, somewhat anxious, silently observing the places in the lavatory where someone might be hiding.
On his way out, he had coincidentally met Professor Snape, who was on his usual night patrol, and then told him what he had encountered.
Of course, for certain reasons, he concealed some details.
He only said that another person had gotten separated from them.
But what he never expected was that Dumbledore and several other professors would arrive shortly after.
Cedric now only hoped that Aiden was hiding in the lavatory, or had already left this area.
