Below the message, three distinct paths glowed with a soft, ethereal light.

Path 1: Marsh Viper Striker

"Embrace your venomous heritage. This path focuses on a single, overwhelming, and potent strike."

◇Evolved Form: Marsh Viper Striker

Primary Boosts: Significant increase to Venom Potency & Agility.

◇New Trait: Neurotoxic Bite (Passive): Your venom now attacks the nervous system, causing temporary paralysis in smaller prey and muscle spasms in larger foes.

◇New Skill: Viper's Strike (Active): A lightning-fast lunge that dramatically increases attack speed and accuracy for a single bite. (Cost: Low Stamina)

Path 2: Red Serpent Constrictor

"Your strength lies in your coils. Overpower your enemies with relentless pressure."

◇Evolved Form: Red Serpent Constrictor

Primary Boosts: Significant increase to Strength & Vitality.

◇New Trait: Reinforced Scales (Passive): Your scales become thicker, providing a notable boost to physical defense.

◇New Skill: Crushing Grip (Active): Enhances the power of your Constrict skill, allowing you to apply pressure that can crack weaker armor and bones. (Cost: Moderate Stamina)

Path 3: Shadowscale Viper

"Become the shadow that hunts the shadows. This path enhances your predatory senses and ambush capabilities."

◇Evolved Form: Gloomfang Stalker

◇Primary Boosts: Balanced increase to Agility & Intelligence.

◇New Trait: Dungeon Camouflage (Passive): Your scales can subtly shift in color and pattern to better blend with rocky and fungal environments when stationary.

◇New Skill: Prey's Tremor (Active): By pressing your body to the ground, you can sense the vibrations of nearby movement, giving you a rough idea of the location and size of creatures around you. (Cost: Low Stamina)

Adam studied each option with intense focus, his initial impulse to just pick the strongest one fading. This was a foundational choice.

"Okay, let's break this down," he thought, his mind racing. "The Striker is all about that one-hit kill. Amazing offense, but if I miss or the venom doesn't work fast enough, I'm in trouble. The Constrictor is a tank. I'd be way tougher and could handle bigger prey in a straight fight, but I'd lose the speed that's saved my life so many times."

His eyes lingered on the third option. The Shadowscale Viper.

"It doesn't have the raw power of the Striker or the brute toughness of the Constrictor... but it's smart. It plays to my real strength: my human mind. Camouflage? Vibration sense? Combined with my Acute Smell, I'd be the ultimate ambush predator. I could avoid fights I can't win and choose my battles perfectly."

He thought about his goal: to survive, to grow, and eventually to see the outside world. Stealth and information would be far more valuable in the long run than pure, brute force. He couldn't afford to be a mindless monster, he had to be a cunning one.

His decision solidified.

"I survived by being smart, by adapting, and by taking advantage of lucky breaks. The Shadowscale Viper is the path of a survivor. It's me."

He focused his will on the third option.

[ Proceed with Evolution? Y/N ]

He took one last look around his little crevice. It was safe. It was as good a place as any to be reborn.

"Okay, universe," Adam Smith thought, a wave of anticipation washing over him. "Let's see what this new skin can do."

With a final, decisive mental command, he pressed.

Y.

This time, the transformation was instant and profound. A warm, tingling energy erupted from his core, flooding every cell in his body.

He felt his form stretching, his muscles re-knitting, his scales softening and then hardening again with a new, subtle iridescence.

It wasn't painful, but it was intensely disorienting, like every part of him was being disassembled and put back together, better, and stronger.

When the sensations finally faded, Adam opened his eyes.

The world snapped into a clarity so sharp it was almost overwhelming. The dim fungal light of the crevice now seemed bright, the shadows richer and more detailed. Adam blinked, his new eyes taking in every minute crack and texture on the stone around him.

His body felt... different. Longer, leaner, and brimming with a coiled, electric potential. He was no longer a pale, foot-long hatchling. He estimated his length had more than doubled, putting him at a respectable four feet.

His scales were now a deep, mottled grey-black, like volcanic rock dusted with ash, and they held a subtle, oily sheen that seemed to drink the light.

A new status screen, shimmering with a more confident blue hue, awaited his attention.

"Shadowscale Viper... I like it," Adam thought, a sense of fierce pride swelling within him. "And look at those stats! Agility 12! I feel like I could outrun a thought."

He decided to test his new traits immediately. Focusing on the wall of the crevice, he willed his scales to change. He felt a faint, tingling sensation across his skin, and when he looked down, his body had taken on the exact color and rough texture of the granite beside him. He was virtually invisible.

"Incredible! This is next-level hide and seek."

Next, he pressed his jaw and the front part of his body flat against the cool stone floor. He closed his eyes and activated Prey's Tremor.

Instantly, a whole new layer of perception opened up. He could feel the faint, rhythmic scuttling of a beetle colony two tunnels over, the slow, heavy plod of something large (probably the Rock-Armored Toad) in the distant cavern, and the quick, skittering footsteps of a lone Fang-Rat heading his way.

"It's like sonar! This changes everything. No more walking—or slithering—blindly into ambushes."

The rat was getting closer, drawn by the scent of the recently deceased Mantis. It was a perfect test subject.

Adam remained perfectly still, his Dungeon Camouflage making him part of the wall. He watched as the Fang-Rat, a scruffy Level 3, cautiously entered the crevice, its nose twitching.

It sniffed the air, looked directly at Adam's motionless form without seeing him, and then turned its attention to a scrap of mantis carapace.

This was his moment. He didn't lunge from a coiled position. Instead, he used his incredible Agility in a new way. He flowed. It was a silent, explosive burst of motion from a dead stop. He was a dark streak across the ground.

The rat had no time to react. Adam's fangs found their mark in its neck before it could even squeak. His enhanced venom, already more potent from his previous growth, did its work in seconds. The rat collapsed.

[ Defeated: Dungeon Fang-Rat (Lvl 3) ]

[ EP Gained: 10 ]

[ Total Evolution Points: 37/500 ]

The fight was clean, efficient, and utterly one-sided. It was the hunt of a true predator, not a desperate survivor.

He consumed the rat, the familiar musk now tasting like victory.
