Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Red Submarine

Shin woke up to sunlight coming through his window. He sat up and stretched. Today was the day. Today, everyone would see his submarine.

He got dressed quickly and walked out of his room. Nobita's door was already open. Inside, both Nobita and Doraemon were awake.

"Good morning!" Shin said cheerfully.

"Morning, Shin!" Doraemon replied with a smile.

"Morning," Nobita yawned. He still looked sleepy.

They went downstairs together for breakfast. Aunt Tamako had made rice, grilled fish, and miso soup. Uncle Nobisuke was reading the newspaper at the table.

"Good morning, boys!" Aunt Tamako said. "You're all up early today."

"Morning, Mom!" Nobita said, sitting down.

As they ate, Shin looked at Nobita and Doraemon. It was time to tell the parents about their plan.

"Um, Mom, Dad," Nobita started. "We want to go camping today."

"Camping?" Uncle Nobisuke looked up from his newspaper. "Just the three of you?"

"No, Shizuka and Gian are coming too," Nobita explained.

"I don't know," Aunt Tamako said, looking worried. "That sounds dangerous. You're all just children."

"Don't worry, Mom" Doraemon said confidently. "I'll take care of everyone. I have gadgets that will keep us all safe. Nothing bad will happen, I promise!"

Aunt Tamako looked at Doraemon. Then she looked at Uncle Nobisuke.

"Well, Doraemon is very responsible," Uncle said. "And he does have those amazing gadgets."

"Please, Mom?" Nobita begged.

Aunt Tamako sighed. "Okay, but you must be careful. And don't go anywhere too dangerous!"

"We won't! Thank you!" Nobita said happily.

After breakfast, Nobita and Doraemon went to pack their things. Shin found Doraemon in Nobita's room.

"Doraemon, can I borrow the Small Light and Big Light?" Shin asked.

"Sure!" Doraemon reached into his pocket and pulled out both gadgets. "Here you go. But when are you going to show us your surprise?"

"Soon. Very soon," Shin smiled mysteriously.

Shin took the lights and went back to his room. He walked to the wall with the poster door and opened it. Inside the huge spare room, his red submarine was waiting.

"Time to make you portable," Shin said.

First, he walked over to the detachable extension. It was big - it had bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a dining area. Shin picked up the Small Light and aimed it at the extension.

Click!

A beam of light shot out. The extension started shrinking. Smaller and smaller. Within seconds, it was tiny - small enough to fit in Shin's fist.

Shin picked up the tiny extension carefully. It was so light now. He walked over to the main submarine and opened a small compartment he had built into the wall. He placed the tiny extension inside and closed the compartment.

"Perfect," Shin said.

Now for the main submarine. It was big - a bit smaller than Shin's height, but still too big to carry around. Shin aimed the Small Light at it.

Click!

The submarine began shrinking. The beautiful red color stayed bright as it got smaller and smaller. Soon, it was the size of a toy - small enough to fit in Shin's palm.

Shin picked up the tiny submarine. It felt strange holding something so powerful in his hand. He carefully placed it in his backpack. Then he packed the other gadgets too - the Three Times Speed Sticker, the Small Light, the Big Light, and the Obtaining Bag. Everything fit perfectly.

"All set," Shin said, zipping up his backpack.

He left the spare room and closed the poster door. Then he walked across the hall to Nobita's room.

When he opened the door, he saw Nobita and Doraemon ready to go. Nobita had a bulky red backpack on the floor. It looked heavy and full. Doraemon had tied some things in a red cloth and attached it around his neck.

Shin smiled at the sight. They looked ready for an adventure.

"Are you guys ready to go?" Shin asked.

"Yes! Let's go!" Nobita said excitedly.

"I'm ready too!" Doraemon nodded.

They grabbed their things and went downstairs. At the front door, Aunt Tamako and Uncle Nobisuke were waiting to see them off.

"Be careful, boys," Aunt Tamako said. "And Nobita, listen to Doraemon!"

"I will, Mom!" Nobita promised.

"Have fun, but stay safe," Uncle Nobisuke added.

"We will! Goodbye!" they all said together.

They left the house and started walking toward the park. The morning air was fresh and cool. The sun was shining bright in the blue sky. It was a perfect day for an adventure.

When they reached the park, Shin saw two people waiting near the concrete pipes. Shizuka was wearing a pink outfit and had a small backpack. Gian was wearing his usual orange shirt and had his arms crossed.

"There they are!" Nobita said, waving.

As soon as they got close, Gian suddenly moved. He grabbed Nobita by the collar of his shirt and lifted him up.

"Nobita!" Gian said loudly. "Do you really have a way for us to go on a yacht trip? You better not be lying to me!"

"I-I-I'm not lying!" Nobita stammered, looking scared. His legs were dangling in the air.

"Gian, let him go," Shin said calmly but firmly. He walked over and gently pulled Gian's hand away from Nobita's collar. "Nobita isn't the one who organized this trip. I am."

Gian let go of Nobita, who fell to the ground. Gian turned to look at Shin.

"You? You organized a yacht trip?" Gian asked, looking skeptical.

"Yes. I'm the one who planned everything," Shin said with confidence. "We're going on an ocean adventure today."

"Gian, please trust them," Shizuka said gently. "Shin seems like he knows what he's doing."

Gian stared at Shin for a moment. Then he sighed. "Fine. I'll trust you for now. But if you're lying to us, it won't end in a good way. Got it?"

"Don't worry. You won't be disappointed," Shin smiled.

"So, how are we getting to the ocean?" Shizuka asked.

"Good question!" Doraemon said. He reached into his pocket and pulled out several Bamboo Copters. "Everyone, take one!"

He handed a Bamboo Copter to each person. Shizuka, Gian, Nobita, Shin, and Doraemon all placed the copters on their heads.

"We're going to fly there!" Doraemon announced.

The Bamboo Copters started spinning. One by one, they all lifted off the ground and flew up into the sky.

"Follow me!" Shin called out. He started flying in the direction of the ocean.

They flew over houses, over trees, over streets. People below looked up and waved. The wind felt good on their faces. The sky was so blue and clear.

"I am really excited for this!" Shizuka said happily, flying beside them.

"Yeah! Me too!" Doraemon agreed.

They kept flying for about thirty minutes. Slowly, the buildings became fewer. Then Shin smelled something - salty air. The ocean!

"Look! There it is!" Nobita pointed ahead.

The ocean spread out before them, endless and blue. Waves crashed against the shore far below. It was beautiful.

"Now what?" Gian asked as they hovered in the air above the water.

"Just keep watching," Shin said with a grin.

He led everyone to fly just above the ocean water. They hovered about five feet above the waves. The water below them looked so clear and blue.

"Okay, everyone. This is it," Shin said. He opened his backpack and reached inside. His hand found the tiny submarine. He pulled it out and held it up for everyone to see.

"Is that a toy?" Shizuka asked, looking confused.

"What?!" Gian shouted. "We're going to travel in a toy?! You've got to be kidding me!"

Gian's face turned red with anger. He looked like he was about to explode.

Shin just smiled calmly. "Watch this."

He flew down closer to the water and gently placed the tiny submarine on the surface. It floated there, looking like a small toy boat.

Then Shin pulled out the Big Light from his backpack. He aimed it at the submarine.

"Everyone, get ready," Shin said.

Click!

A beam of light hit the submarine. Immediately, it started growing. Bigger and bigger and bigger. The sound of metal expanding filled the air. The submarine grew to the size of a car. Then a truck. Then even bigger!

"Whoa!" Nobita gasped.

"What?!" Gian's jaw dropped.

Finally, the submarine stopped growing. It was now almost as big as a real submarine - maybe twenty feet long and eight feet wide. But it didn't look like a normal submarine. It was sleek and futuristic, shaped like a mix between a high-tech boat and a spacecraft. And it was bright red, gleaming in the sunlight.

It floated on the water, looking absolutely magnificent.

"No way..." Shizuka whispered, staring with wide eyes.

"That's... that's..." Gian couldn't finish his sentence. His mouth was hanging open.

Shin flew down and landed on top of the submarine. He stood there proudly and spread his arms wide.

"Everyone, I introduce to you our ride for this trip!" Shin announced.

"WOW!" Nobita shouted.

"That's incredible!" Shizuka said, her eyes shining with excitement.

"I can't believe it!" Gian added, still staring.

Shizuka flew closer to Doraemon. "Doraemon, is this one of your gadgets?"

"I... I have no idea what this is," Doraemon said honestly, looking amazed. "I've never seen anything like this before!"

"Really?" Nobita asked, surprised.

Shin looked at Doraemon. "Remember those gadgets you gave me? The space, the materials, the time? This is what I was working on. I built this submarine myself."

"You built this?!" Doraemon's eyes went wide. "In just two days?!"

"Well, with your gadgets, I had more time to work," Shin said with a smile.

"But how? What is this made from? How does it work?" Doraemon flew down to the submarine, touching its smooth red surface.

"Come inside. I'll show you everything," Shin said.

Shin opened a hatch on top of the submarine. Steps led down into the interior. One by one, everyone flew down and entered.

Inside, they all gasped.

The submarine interior looked like something from the future. There were comfortable seats arranged near the front, where large windows showed the ocean outside. On the side was a soft couch. The walls were smooth and white. Lights on the ceiling gave off a warm glow. Everything looked clean and comfortable.

"This is amazing!" Shizuka said, running her hand along the wall.

"It's like something from a movie!" Nobita added.

"I've never seen anything like this," Gian said, looking around in wonder.

Doraemon walked around, examining everything. "Shin, this is incredible work. But I have to ask - how does this thing work? What powers it?"

Everyone turned to look at Shin, waiting for an answer.

Shin walked to the front control panel. "It's actually pretty simple. The submarine runs on oxygen separated from water."

"Oxygen from water?" Doraemon tilted his head.

"Yes. I created a special liquid that can separate oxygen from water," Shin explained. "The submarine takes in ocean water, the liquid separates the oxygen, and then the oxygen is used as fuel for the engine. The same oxygen also provides us with breathing air inside the submarine."

"That's brilliant!" Doraemon said. "So it has unlimited power as long as it's in water?"

"Exactly. As long as we're in the ocean, we'll never run out of power or air," Shin nodded.

"Wow, Shin! You're really smart!" Shizuka said with admiration.

"Yeah! This is so cool!" Nobita added.

Even Gian looked impressed. "I take back what I said earlier. This is way better than Suneo's stupid yacht!"

Shin smiled at his friends. "So, is everyone ready? Our ocean adventure is about to start."

"Yes!" they all shouted together.

Shin sat down in the pilot's seat. In front of him was a control panel with buttons and screens. He placed his hands on the controls.

"Then let's go!" Shin said.

He pressed a button. The submarine's engine hummed to life. Through the windows, they could see bubbles rising as the submarine started to descend.

The ocean adventure had begun.
