Chapter 3 - System Shenanigans

"A-Are you alright, Sir Leon!?"

The nurse quickly checked my pulse and temperature; her face filled with nervousness and worry. That alone made it clear that she was a new hire.

"I'm okay... tell me, what happened to me?"

The nurse blinked, then cleared her throat. She didn't expect a question like that.

Because, well... you should know how you even managed to pass out in a dungeon.

"You were found outside a closing dungeon, apparently the Scavenger Guild found you while they were on their way to clear another dungeon."

I raised a brow at her answer, so that odd monarch was kind enough to at least not leave me stuck in a dungeon, well... not sure if I could call it kind if he wants me as a vessel.

He just wants me to survive for his own benefit.

"How much is my fee?"

I asked, I'd rather not spend another day in a hospital, even as a B-Rank hunter, hospital bills are still undeniably expensive... even in this world, healthcare can sometimes be worse than death.

"It's already been paid by the Scavenger Guild."

"What...?"

"I don't know the details exactly... but I'm guessing they want a recruit?"

I sighed. Working as an independent worker was definitely working for me, but a guild? It was tempting, but I couldn't just jump into it willy-nilly; I still needed to understand what in the world happened to me back at the dungeon.

[Task: Join the Scavenger Guild]

[Penalty: Death]

'Guess not...'

It took an hour until I was discharged; apparently, all my equipment was already transported back to my apartment the moment they figured out my identity.

But at least they were kind enough to hand me some fresh clothes from my house... not sure how I feel about the invasion of privacy though.

I checked my watch, and to my surprise, it was already three in the afternoon, and if I remembered correctly, the Scavenger Guild already had a dungeon raid on their schedule.

Which meant I had free time... but with the penalty looming, I'd rather not take chances.

"Guess I'm going to have to do something drastic."

Act like a competent fanboy that's too annoying to deny.

I crossed my arms, smirking. It was a better start than Sung Jin-Woo had in the story, but I still didn't know what my class was going to be.

All I knew was that it was related to time, and by the name alone promised great power... but who knew.

Might genuinely be terrible.

'Guess I'll find out after this quest...'

*** Los Angeles - Balboa Boulevard ***

I arrived at the location with my full fighter gear. I wasn't sure if I remembered where it was exactly, but I had no choice but to trust my gut.

Good thing they announced their raid on the news; if they didn't, then I would have been likely screwed.

And when I got closer, it was definitely the right place.

Multiple other journalists had already arrived and were interviewing the hunters... none at all appeared in the original story.

Which means they were extras.

"Who's that guy...?"

A random civilian pointed at me, eyes narrowed.

"Eh... did the article say anything about a random appearing?"

"Shhh... that's Leon, the independent B-Rank hunter!"

"W-Who?"

"The C-Rank dungeon clearer."

The moment the other person said those words, the rest immediately followed. I was already a local celebrity due to my exploits, not because I was anything impressive... but because I helped avoid multiple dungeon breaks since I was the only one willing to handle lower-ranked dungeons.

"What's happening?"

A journalist who was interviewing a hunter stopped, looking in my direction.

"Need an extra blade?"

I smile smugly, but in truth... I was dying from embarrassment.

A B-Rank didn't have the right to be that smug.
