Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - New Beginnings [1]

Velmira's smile slowly faded as she gazed at Rivel.

"H-hey Rivel, I just wanna say I'm sorry about everything that has happened to you recently, because of me. I didn't think much into how the human would feel or think, when I summoned them… It was more of my own selfish wish that–"

Rivel waves his hand in front of her face interrupting her soppy speech. "Please stop it there. Don't continue the soppy speech. Look I don't resent you for summoning me. It's not like it's directly your fault for anything that happened to me anyway. I mean I am the one who accepted the challenge after all despite you trying to protect me."

He then holds up one finger not allowing her to talk still. "Also before you ask next, yes I still plan to help you out in your plan for world peace."

Velmira gazed at him before giggling to herself. "You know you can be really cold at times but then you always manage to surprise me at the most random times with something warm."

Rivel didn't say anything and just rubbed the back of his neck.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay longer and learn about the world? I can have someone teach you about the history of Vern."

"No thanks, I'd rather learn as I travel… it's more fun that way in a sense."

I mostly just don't want to be here any longer than I have too.

"Oh–I see well then… before you go on your little adventure I have a gift for you!" Velmira reaches behind, grabbing a black gift box wrapped in a red ribbon. "Here! I want you to have this!"

Rivel eyes the box stunned as he slowly takes it out of Velmira's hand. He slowly opens it up revealing crimson colored daggers laying neatly inside the box side by side.

He stands there frozen, staring at the daggers before taking them out the box. "I–uh… wow I don't know… just wow these are… awesome. Thank you Velmira," he stammers, wearing a face of awe.

Velmira smiles at his reaction. "If I remember correctly, adventurers are usually always in battle, so I had the finest weapon crafters make this for you."

"These aren't cursed are they? I won't suddenly gain debuffs when using these right," he asked, with a face full of suspicion.

Velmira waves her hands in a panic. "What?! No! I already tested them myself, so you'll be fine. And I'm sorry that I couldn't equip you with more resources. A lot of demon made resources aren't compatible with a lot of other races due to the magic we embed into them."

"It's fine. I wasn't really expecting to receive anything anyway. These daggers are all that I really need. Besides, carrying around demonic made items would just draw more unwanted attention from the wrong individuals. I mean I am already wearing fake demon horns to hide demonic aura. I'm starting to look more like a demon than a human."

"Yea, maybe you're right about that."

Rivel places the daggers inside his jacket pockets for now until he's able to place them somewhere proper. Then he points towards the portal. "So where does this take me?"

"It should take you to the closest town in the human kingdom, Elsandra. There you should be safe until you set out as an adventurer." She steps closer towards him and hands him a purple gem that shines brightly. "This gem should fetch you enough money to keep you from starving on the streets as well."

Right, I'm completely broke right now… but it isn't something I'm not used too.

"Finally thing before you leave! If I ever require your return I'll send someone to personally come fetch you."

"I'd rather you don't, just send me a letter."

"That'll take too long, my way is faster."

Rivel just sighed, and walked towards the portal before turning back to look at Velmira. "Velmira, despite everything… I'm glad the first person I got to interact with in this new world was someone as cute as you."

Before anything else could be said he stepped through the portal, which then started to crackle before enclosing on itself, as if it was never there to begin with.

Velmira stood there silent still staring at the space where Rivel once stood.

Her aura slowly dribbled out of her.

Not in fury.

But in a different emotion she never experienced before.

Rivel suddenly found himself in an alleyway as the portal closed behind him. "How poetic. I start my new journey in an alleyway."

"Rivel walked towards the exit of the alleyway only to be blinded by the sun as he covered his face to grab a better look at his surroundings. When his eyes finally adjusted, he couldn't help but to form a small smirk on his lips.

The place looked like old England. Sounds of merchants filled the sky, iron being struck rang throughout the area, and the smell of freshly baked food flowed through pathways.

He looked upon people with animal ears and tails walking about, chatting away with each other talking about their latest adventure. Another passerby was someone who looked human, but had strange pointy ears. Finally a short buff man stepped out of a building that looked like a blacksmith, throwing out a guy who held onto a chipped sword.

"Don't return until ya finally show respect for the weapons you use, you punk!" The man slammed the door shut, as the guy he threw out slowly stood up grumbling "Stupid dwarf."

Rivel couldn't help but to cover his mouth with his hands as he let out a very odd chuckle. "You know, I didn't enjoy the idea of being isekaied myself, but I still can't help but to feel excited at this sight."

Rivel crossed his arms finally feeling serious.

Alright time for me to get serious. I guess the first thing I really should do is register in the adventurers guild. And If I'm lucky maybe they'll let me trade in the purple jewel that Velmira gave me." He glanced down at his pants pockets where the jewel is placed.

Guess I should ask around for directions to the Adventurers guild.

He looks around until he spots two furry eared humans talking amongst each other.

Beastmen! I really want to get a better look and see them up close. Guess I'll just ask them for directions.

He slowly approaches them holding a hand up. "Hey! I was wondering if-"

Before he could even finish his sentence, when the two Beastmen eyes landed upon him they took off running in the opposite direction as if they saw a ghost.

Rivel reached his hand out while shouting. "Hey! Wait! I… just want directions…"

Tsk, I didn't want to talk to you two anyway, he thought as he crossed arms looking away trying to seem hurt by the reaction.

Guess I'll just need to find someone else to ask. His eyes scanned around the area once again spotting a woman with long pointy ears.

An Elf!

He walked over doing the same thing he did before with the two beastmen. "Hey! Excuse me, I-"

Once again before he could even finish his sentence, they ran away in the opposite direction.

Rivel stood there frozen like a statue.

He grit his teeth and crossed his arms as a tear trickled down his face.

It's fine… I didn't want to really talk to you either.

Fine last try… I'll just ask–

His eyes shifted around until his gaze landed upon the blacksmith that he saw earlier.

Surely they won't just flat out run away from me right?

He knocked on the door of the blacksmith, waiting patiently for it to open up.

As the door opened he was met with the same man he saw just earlier covered in soot.

A Dwarf.

"Hello. Sorry to bother you, I-"

Before he could even finish the door slammed shut right in front of his face as he stood like a statue about to finally crumble away.

"..."

He just kicked the door. "Well I– agh! Forget it." He shouted, as he marched away.

As he marched away he caught a glimpse of himself in a piece of armor, and his eyes drifted upwards towards the fake demon horns on his head.

"I knew this would happen. Ugh!" He grunted as he dragged his hand through his hair stopping at the horns. "They don't even look realistic so I don't understand what's with the panic."

You know whatever… I'll just find the guild myself. This town can't be that big.

[1 hour later]

He was sitting on the ground outside some building as he rested his arms on his knees.

I don't know how long it's been, but I can clearly tell I must've been walking around for at least an hour by now. I underestimated just how large this town would be. I swear in manga, and manwhas the towns look so much smaller!

As he continued to rest his eyes happened to land on a party of adventurers carrying a bag that looked lumpy.

They look like adventurers. Perhaps a D rank party… their weapons look in great condition, so maybe a bit higher than that. Considering what they're carrying there either on a quest to deliver something or they're coming from a quest to bring in proof of completion… Guess I better follow them for the chance of them leading me to the guild.

He follows them for a short amount of time, until they enter a building with a worn wooden sign labeled as [Adventures Guild].

He rushes over in a hurry.

Finally after what felt like an eternity in hell I made it to the adventurers guild. I can officially start this stupid new life I was handed.

He struts forward prepared to enter the guild with a calm face, opening the guild doors.

[Moments later]

He is sitting in a chair chained to a table.

"I hate my life," he said, in a monotone voice.
