Chapter 30 - Logical Solution

Throughout the entire journey, Julian hid behind trees while watching Rosette fight. He did take note of the way she fought, though. They encountered an abandoned cabin. It was mostly made of wood, besides the glass windows, which were dirty and broken.

Agh... I'm suddenly missing Umilythe. This is some hard work. Should I have just stayed there and enjoyed the rest of my life with her?

When I put it like that, it sounds as if we're married! Two friends can enjoy their life together, though, right?

"Hm. Someone lived here?"

Rosette suddenly spoke as she slowly opened the door. A creaking noise came with the door opening, giving Julian a bit of a chill.

The dim outside light entered the room, allowing Julian and Rosette to see the contents of the wooden cabin. A rotting corpse was perfectly illuminated by the outside light, sitting with its back to the wall. Julian naturally held in a puke. Both the smell and the sight were horrid.

"Wh-what the hell is that?" he asked, putting a hand to his mouth.

"Quit being dramatic. This is not the first dead body you're going to see."

They promptly entered.

"Agh... I feel woozy."

Rosette stuck her hand out.

[Cast: Compress]

A dark blue ball of pulsating energy hovered, being pulled out of the corpse's open chest. The pulsating and erratic nature of the ball slowly ceased, moving to form a regular sphere in the palm of her hand.

"Wow. This guy had quite a bit of mana. And it's not too impure, either."

She placed the now solid ball of mana into her bag.

[Cast: Pyro Drill]

Julian's eyes shot wide. From the right side of the cabin, a quickly spinning drill broke through the wall. It was heading toward the duo.

Julian winced.

Rosette quickly lifted her hand up.

[Cast: Freeze]

The drill froze, inches away from her palm. Upon reaching the ground, it shattered into several pieces. The ends of Rosette's lips curled.

"You've gotten slower, haven't you?"

Out of the shadows came a silver-haired boy. His hair was tied up, and his skin was pale, with a horn protruding from his forehead. He glared at Rosette with his dark black eyes. Though he quickly smiled, forming a happier expression.

"It's been a while, Rosette. Where have you been?" he maintained this light-hearted smile.

What?

That drill... was so fast.

Is this how demons greet eachother!? Psychopathy!

"Doctor has been making me do a lot more work recently because of a certain boy, Salvokin."

"Julian, this is Salvokin. Salvokin, this is Julian."

Julian hesitantly walked forward, reaching to shake Salvokin's hand. With even more reluctance and what appeared to be pride, Salvokin grabbed his hand, shaking it with a firm grip.

"This is the doctor's only success? Boy, he got unlucky!" Salvokin laughed. He wiped his tears of laughter, though Rosette glared at him.

"Be nice, Salvokin. He's like a newborn; he doesn't know much."

"That isn't true! I know quite a bit!-"

"Anyway, Rosette. Do you have time to meet up with everyone else?" Salvokin asked.

"Yeah, I think so."

"But, Dr. Vaen said you were supposed to accompany me at all times- Ow!"

Rosette kicked Julian's leg, gesturing for him to shut up.

"Julian! Just stay here, alright? I'll come back to get you."

Before he could protest, they were already long gone, giggling and laughing. Julian sighed and sat down.

I'm actually quite glad I got this alone time. I could be myself for a moment.

This is still a lot to me, and I've never really gotten to assess everything that's happened to me since I've gotten here.

I got to this world, got kidnapped by some forest spirit, then got sold into slavery. I suffered, I got violated, then I managed to escape and free all the slaves. Then I tried to explore the world and immediately became paraplegic. Then, I was sacrificed. Then, I washed up ashore and actually died.

Though that... place I was in. My memory is incredibly iffy about it.

Demon King...

Demon King.

I had devised a solid reasoning for why that man, Stein, called me that. But what if I was wrong? If I am wrong, then I've thought of another reasonable explanation.

He didn't view me physically... but viewed me as a soul. Being a soul that's not from here... he basically described me as something different. So souls from a different world are seen differently.

Therefore, it is possible that whoever the Demon King is, likely an age-old being who caused havoc, was a transmigrator?

So... someone in this world should know what I am!? A transmigrator!

Then, it presents the following question: Would they even help me? Would they try to kill me? If the Demon King was that bad, and he was a transmigrator- or maybe he was reincarnated?

Agh! This is all too much to think about! I need to relax!

Julian sighed, letting out all his grievances through his breath.

He closed his eyes as his consciousness started to lose its grip.

. .

"Umilythe..."

"Umilythe.....!"

"Who is..? Agh, I don't care- Wake up, Julian."

Rosette slapped Julian hard. He sprang awake, rising up. At first, he was in an excited sweat, but when he looked at Julian, he seemed a little disappointed.

"Agh.. it's just you."

"Eh? Why do you sound so disappointed when saying that? You're really good at making me angry, you know? Come on, we have to go."

Julian hadn't even realized. Night had fallen, and it was pitch black. Terror shook him.

"Th-this isn't good... we're gonna be killed!"

"Relax, you scaredy cat!"
