The sixth day dawned gray. Elisa could no longer distinguish the hours in her captivity. The cold, darkness, and fear were her only companions. Each beat of her heart was marked by the terror of losing her babies before even seeing them born.
That morning, heavy footsteps announced the entrance of one of the kidnappers. He didn't bring food. He only left a small cell phone with a cracked screen on the table.
They told you to watch this. ... he said, curtly, and left, locking the door behind him.
Elisa, with trembling hands, picked up the device. She pressed the button and the screen lit up.
The video began. Eduardo appeared. He was lying on the sofa, exhausted, his head resting on Sophia's shoulder. She caressed his face, delicately, like a lover offering comfort. The angle was perfect, calculated, as if they were accomplices in an intimate moment.
Elisa bit her lips until they almost bled.
No... it can't be... she murmured, trying to push the thought away.
