Lucian walked with heavy steps along the cobblestone paths of the law school. The trees lining the way seemed to bend under the weight of the gray clouds covering the sky. His bad mood was palpable, radiating an energy that kept students and professors at a prudent distance. It wasn't just the frustration of not having managed to infiltrate anyone into the Iron Blood pack in weeks, but the poison running through his veins when thinking about Eliza.
"Why do you torture yourself with this, Lucian?" The guttural voice of the wolf resonated in his mind, grave and full of reproach. "You're going to reject her anyway."
Lucian closed his eyes for a moment, pausing briefly as he made his way to the rector's office. It was the second class Eliza had missed, and he couldn't help wondering what was happening.
