Chapter 19 - CHAPTER 19: THE UNFOLDING OF SECRET (FINALE)

Storm wakes up to the heat of sunlight slapping his face and the smell of breakfast drifting into his room.

Storm: at least I wasn't woken up by that stupid alarm today.

From the hallway, Trevor's voice blasts through the house.

Trevor: rise and shine shit holes, I made breakfast!

Storm sighs and steps out. Astrid and Raven are wrestling for control of the bathroom like two toddlers fighting over a toy. Blaze casually slips past both of them and locks the door.

Storm: yeah… normal morning.

He heads downstairs to the kitchen.

Trevor: finally you're up, I almost thought it was my lucky day.

Storm: morning to you too, you old fart.

Trevor: ay man, do me a favor. My phone is in my room, can you grab it for me? I was su—

Storm: I don't care what you were supposed to do.

Trevor: lots of big words coming from a small body. Now go get my phone.

Storm: fine…

He heads down the hallway, half-asleep, half-annoyed. But then he freezes.

There's a door slightly cracked open…

And bright light shines through it.

Storm: now what dumb shit is this.

He pushes the door open.

And stops.

The entire wall is covered in pictures.

All of them… of him.

Storm fighting.

Storm and Calvin when he was younger.

Storm at the grocery store.

Storm sleeping on the couch one random Tuesday.

Storm: cool… I have a stalker now.

He steps inside slowly.

The room is messy — clothes everywhere, books scattered — but the pictures?

Perfectly arranged.

Organized by year.

By location.

By moment.

Storm: nah this is crazy. Why is he stalking me.

He reaches for one picture — him and Uncle Calvin hugging after a training session — but before his fingers touch it…

Blaze's voice cuts through the room.

Blaze: don't touch that.

Storm turns around slowly like he's in a horror movie.

Storm: so uh… you wanna explain why your room looks like a National Geographic documentary about ME?

Storm: because right now, the only explanations are… one, you're gay for me, or two, you're a stalker.

Blaze doesn't laugh.

Doesn't grin.

He looks… sad.

Deep sad.

Blaze: I wasn't stalking you. I was keeping track of you.

Storm: that's literally stalking.

Blaze: shut up and listen. I just… needed to know you were safe.

Storm pauses.

The tone isn't funny this time.

Astrid peeks into the hallway.

Astrid: I KNEW IT. Y'all related. Nobody collects pictures like this unless blood is involved.

Storm: get your nosy ass outta here.

Astrid leaves giggling.

Storm looks back at Blaze.

Storm: alright… tell me the real reason.

Blaze looks at the floor, jaw shaking.

Blaze, voice breaking: because you're the only fa—

Storm: huh?

Blaze: nothing. Forget it.

Blaze shoves Storm out of the room and slams the door shut —

But not before Storm sees a picture on the wall behind him.

Two kids on a bed.

Uncle Calvin smiling behind them.

Blaze.

And… Storm.

Storm freezes in the hallway.

Storm: what the hell did he mean by that…

Screen fades out.

Screen fades in — dinner table.

Storm and Trevor sit like two men who just received horrible news from a doctor. Blaze walks out quietly and joins them.

Trevor: Blaze, come sit. We need to talk.

Blaze sits down, eyes avoiding Storm's.

Storm: alright, let's try this again, but without the emotional bullshit. Why are you stalking me?

Blaze looks at Trevor.

Blaze: tell him.

Trevor sighs like this is the conversation he's been avoiding for years.

Trevor: he's stalking you—

Blaze: not stalking—

Trevor: because he cares about your wellbeing.

Storm: okay, so you guys are playing dumb. Do you seriously want me to ask why again?

Trevor breathes in deeply.

Trevor: because… he's your brother.

Silence hits the room like a nuke.

Storm: brother… impossible.

Trevor: the reason you guys were separated is because you, Storm, are the Chosen One. The next Legend.

Storm: I'm failing to see how that makes me lose a brother.

Blaze: okay relax, let us finish.

Trevor: being a Legend comes with ups and downs. Ups meaning you're feared by enemies, the most deadly, your world's hero. Downs meaning the amount of hate, enemies, and killers that come after you.

Storm: still not getting it.

Trevor: your dad was the Legend. He chose to stay close to his family even when he wasn't supposed to… and look what happened. You two lost your mother and father in that war. Staying together made you a target.

Storm: wait… you know stuff about my mom?

Trevor: yes. But that's a topic for later. What matters is now — you have a bounty on your head, and the Governors are trying to kill you. That's because they know you're the next Legend.

Blaze: technically the whole world already calls you that.

Trevor: sooner or later, it won't just be the Governors or hunters. Worse things are coming… and if you two were together, you both would've died years ago.

Storm sits back, stunned.

Storm: so you guys split us up so Blaze wouldn't get caught in the crossfire… cool.

Trevor: Blaze couldn't help it though. He cared. So yeah… the weirdo stalked you.

Storm: so you know Uncle Calvin?

Trevor: yeah. Old friend.

Storm leans back, everything connecting in his mind.

Storm: the same lines… same jokes… the marks under our eyes… why we clicked so fast… it all makes sense…

Suddenly —

BAM!

Astrid and Raven burst inside.

Astrid: hey guys, uh—

Raven: we've got company.

Blaze: who?

Astrid and Raven together: the Universal Government.

Astrid: and according to my calculations, the top eight are here with like forty-two men behind them.

Raven: in dumber terms… we're cooked.

Storm: let's just portal out.

Raven: yeah… about that. We kinda broke it this morning fighting for the bathroom.

Storm: fuck.

Screen fades out.
