Teresa walked into the room, Hailey had herself wrapped up in a duvet in her room.
"You got a call from the office, most of your colleagues at work called. This is days and you are yet to tell me why, you are yet to resume back to work," she said, sitting beside her.
"Mommy, I don't feel like going to work."
"And you are yet to tell me the problem. You thought working was so easy. Now you know things aren't that easy," she cautioned.
"Mum, I'm not lazy. It's just something that happened in the office, I just need to get over it," she ranted. "And I don't want to work for Mrs. Beatrice anymore."
"Now I get it. You expect her to be so nice and calm to you when you fuck up. She is my best friend, doesn't she take every shit my daughter does?"
A phone rang. She gazed at it. "Beatrice is calling."
She jumped up from the bed. "Put yourself together and pick up the fuckin' phone," she roared.
"Hello, ma."
"I was told you've been off for days."
"I have a flu."
"You should have reported to the office."
She pulled the phone from her. "She would resume tomorrow."
"Ok, I will hang up now," she said through the phone.
"Thank you for understanding, Beatrice."
"We're friends, and we understand these kids."
---
"Hi, Hailey. Please sit."
"Thank you, ma." She sat.
She stared at her, smiling. "I was told you resumed this morning."
"Yes." She smiled back.
"There won't be much talk, just a quick one. We just go back to work." She inhaled and let out. "I know you regret your action, and we don't expect that to happen again." Putting a face.
"I do regret my actions, but how am I sure it won't repeat?" she said, her head down.
"What is really the problem?" A knock at the door. "Please come in."
"Good day, ma," Ken said.
"Hello, Hailey." Smiling.
"Hi."
"Ma, about the breakdown of the machine, I talked to the production manager, Mr. Lawrence. He said the device was overworked because—"
"Miss Hailey, I think we are done here."
"Ok, ma."
"The seat will be so comfortable if you sit in your office."
"Yes, ma. I'm off."
"Ken, I'm all ears," she said as Hailey left.
---
From the elevator, Beatrice walks in.
"Good morning, ma," a lady firmed.
"Morning," she replies, greetings coming from different angles to her. She replies, beaming with a smile.
"Oh, here she comes, the beauty Goddess, looks like she just turned sixteen." She beamed as her eyes sat on her like a sun.
"Lili, please help me tell Lawrence I will like to see him in my office, bring me the report."
"Ok, ma'am. Mr. Stone is on his way, he called early."
"When he comes, tell him to wait at the production space."
She grab Hailey's eyes at a snap. Hailey grossed down to the system facing her.
"Later the day, please remind me, I will need the wine sample, and the design for the newbies," she grinned at Lili.
"She's so charming, I'm literally losing my breath. I know I'm asking too much, make her see my heart and how it melts each time I see her lord please, I won't ask more than this." She prayed in her heart, her eyes dripped as she smiled, turning to the other side. "This time she caught her rip cracking. I'm sure she's sending me home with no expenses."
"Hailey, your mom put a bet on it, I hope she never gets disappointed."
"Ma?" she blew.
"Yes," she replies, her eyes on the document she held in her hand. "Any more to sign?"
"No ma." She took the document from her.
"Fetch me Lawrence in my office now."
"Ok ma."
She walks to Hailey where she sat.
"Don't give me that feeling you are spying on me. Sometimes pretend you don't see, not to be caught." She smiled.
"Good morning, Mrs. Beatrice." Hailey grinned.
"Most times distractions make one look stupid. Let's get to work and stay focused." She stared at her for a bit, smiling. "You are better than this. I still wonder what makes it so charming."
She walked to the stairs direct to her office. Hailey all smiles as she watched her walk inside an elevator
