Chapter 70 - Recovery

"You should rest more. The doctor said a week of recovery, remember?" Sanemi reaches over to adjust the blanket he'd prepared earlier. "Bedtime for you. I'll handle the dishes." Giyuu doesn't argue this time, too tired to protest against Sanemi's fussing. "Fine... but only because I'm tired." Sanemi helps him stand up and guides him to his bedroom.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever helps you sleep better." Giyuu collapses onto his bed with a content sigh, Mochi curling up beside him. "Don't get too comfortable, I'll be checking on you regularly." Sanemi tucks the blanket around Giyuu, his usual rough demeanor softening slightly.

"And don't roll over too much - you're still recovering from that fever." Giyuu mumbles something incoherent, already half-asleep as Mochi purrs soothingly. "What was that? Use your words, Giyuu." Sanemi sits on the edge of the bed, watching over him with an unusual gentleness. "Never mind. Just rest. I'll be right outside if you need anything."

Sanemi lingers for a moment, adjusting the pillows and making sure Giyuu is comfortable. "And don't think I'll let you skip your meds again. I'll personally shove them down your throat if I have to." He stands up, preparing to leave the room but stops at the doorway. "Sweet dreams, you stubborn idiot." Giyuu's breathing evens out as he drifts deeper into sleep, Mochi protectively curled against his chest.

Sanemi watches them for a moment longer, a small smile playing on his lips before he quietly closes the door. "Finally, some peace and quiet." Sanemi's phone buzzes in his pocket, interrupting his cleaning. "What does that brat want now?" He answers with an annoyed grumble, stepping away from Giyuu's personal space.

"Genya? This better be important - I'm in the middle of something." Genya's voice comes through the phone, sounding worried. "Nemi, is Giyuu okay? I heard he was really sick." Sanemi sighs heavily, running a hand through his hair. "He's getting better. Just needs rest. Don't tell me you're coming over here to bother him too." Genya hesitates on the other end.

"Well... I wanted to bring some homemade soup for him. I know he likes it better than hospital food." Sanemi's expression softens slightly, though he tries to hide it. "Fine. But you better not wake him up. He's finally sleeping properly after days of tossing and turning." Genya perks up at this."I'll be quiet! I promise. And I'll bring extra for you too, Nemi." Sanemi rolls his eyes but can't help the small smile.

"Just hurry up. And don't forget the ginger - he needs something to settle his stomach." Genya arrives about 30 minutes later, carrying several containers of soup and a bag of medicine. "I brought everything! How is he really doing?" Sanemi takes the bags, leading Genya to the kitchen.

"He's sleeping. But he's still got that stupid fever. Don't hover over him too much when you see him." Mochi pads into the kitchen, attracted by the smell of food. "Looks like someone else is hungry too." Genya crouches down to pet Mochi, who immediately starts rubbing against his legs. "Hey there, little one. Missed you too." Sanemi starts dividing the soup into containers, watching Genya play with Mochi.

"Don't spoil her too much. She's already been acting like a princess since Giyuu got sick." Mochi purrs loudly, clearly enjoying the attention. "She knows when someone's weak and takes advantage of it." Genya scoops Mochi up into his arms, scratching behind her ears. "Aww, she's just being a good therapy cat. Right, Mochi?"Sanemi shakes his head disapprovingly. "She's being manipulative. Just like her owner." Genya laughs softly, setting Mochi down on the counter.

"Speaking of Giyuu, I should check on him. Maybe bring him some soup when he wakes up. Sanemi quickly intercepts, blocking the hallway. "No. He needs rest. You can leave the soup here, and I'll make sure he eats it later." Genya pouts but doesn't argue with Sanemi's protective stance. "Fine, fine. But you better make sure he takes his medicine too." Sanemi nods, crossing his arms.

"I'm not letting him out of my sight until he's completely better. Now go home before it gets dark." Sanemi catches Mochi trying to lick the soup bowl. "Hey! That's not for you, you little thief!" He quickly moves the bowl away from the counter, causing Mochi to meow in protest. "No cat food in Giyuu's room. You already ate your dinner." Mochi jumps down from the counter and starts circling Sanemi's legs, giving him sad kitty eyes.

"Don't look at me like that. You know it won't work." Sanemi tries to maintain his stern expression but fails as Mochi continues her adorable begging. "Ugh, fine. Just a tiny bit. But you're still not getting into Giyuu's bed." Sanemi pours a small amount of soup into a separate bowl for Mochi. "This is why Giyuu spoils you too much. You're becoming a food thief like him." He sets the bowl down and watches as Mochi happily laps up the soup.

"Don't tell him I gave you this. He'll think I've gone soft." Mochi finishes the soup and starts cleaning herself, looking very pleased with herself. "Look at you, all smug now. Just like your owner when he gets his way." Sanemi shakes his head with a slight smirk, checking the time. "I should probably check on Giyuu. Stay out of trouble, furball." Sanemi ensures Giyuu is comfortable in bed, sets the soup aside for later, and makes sure Mochi doesn't cause any more trouble.

He spends the evening quietly watching over his roommate, occasionally checking his temperature and adjusting the blankets. Sanemi sits by Giyuu's bedside, his expression softening as he watches him sleep. "You better get better soon, you idiot. I can't handle all this fussing over you." He gently brushes Giyuu's hair away from his forehead, careful not to wake him.

"Even if you're annoying when you're sick... I still need you around."Giyuu stirs slightly in his sleep, unconsciously reaching for Sanemi's hand. "Sanemi..." The usually tough and intimidating Sanemi's heart skips a beat at the sound of his name on Giyuu's lips. "Shh, I'm here. Just rest, Giyuu." Giyuu's grip tightens on Sanemi's hand, his feverish face showing signs of distress even in sleep. "No... don't leave..." Sanemi intertwines their fingers, his voice unusually gentle and soothing.

"I'm not going anywhere. I promise." The room falls into a comfortable silence, broken only by Giyuu's steady breathing and Mochi's soft purring from the corner. Sanemi stays vigilant, his thumb unconsciously stroking Giyuu's hand as he keeps watch over him through the night. As morning light begins to filter through the window, Giyuu's fever finally breaks. His cheeks still flush but the worst seems to have passed.
