Chapter 58 - BLOOD CALLS TO BLOOD

It begins without warning.

Not a head-on attack.

Not a spectacular ambush.

Just…

a stir.

Kael is the first to come to a sudden halt.

His body reacts before his mind does.

His fangs bare, his shoulders drop, his muscles tense as if he were about to pounce.

"Stop."

The group freezes.

The forest, ordinary a second ago, breathes differently.

The air is warmer.

Heavier.

Like before a storm that hasn't yet decided where to strike.

Dravik closes his eyes.

He inhales.

And his blood responds.

"Draconians, he says in a low voice.

Not far."

Sahr smiles slowly.

Not amused.

Intrigued.

"And not discreet."

Lunaya hasn't sensed anything yet.

No thread.

No vision.

But something inside her… tenses.

As if her body had recognized a challenge before her mind.

Then they emerge from the edge of the forest.

Three figures.

Massive.

Dark red scales, almost black.

Marks of dominion etched directly into the skin, burned right into the flesh.

Draconic Inquisitors.

Not soldiers.

Not emissaries.

Test enforcers.

"Lúnaya," says one of them.

His accent is perfect.

Too perfect.

Dravik growls.

A deep, dangerous sound.

"You are far from your citadels."

The draconic tilts his head slightly.

"Official order."

"Conditional capture."

"Resistance authorized."

Silence falls.

Kael takes a step forward.

"You have no authority here."

The Inquisitor's smile widens.

"We're not testing you, wolf."

And he raises his hand.

The ground explodes.

A wave of raw, concentrated, focused heat.

Not against Lunaya.

Around her.

To isolate her.

Kael is thrown to the side, rolling instinctively, claws out.

Sahr vanishes in a feline blur.

Dravik… remains standing.

But his eyes burn.

"Don't…, he growls.

 Don't… touch… her."

The Inquisitor stares at him.

"You are under orders, Dravik of the Red Scales."

"Assess."

"Neutralize if necessary."

The fire within Dravik roars.

His hands tremble.

Lunaya understands.

This isn't a fight.

It's a moral trap.

She steps forward.

"Stop."

Her voice isn't loud.

But it gets through.

The Inquisitor turns to her.

"Show us, then."

And he attacks.

Not with fire.

With his aura.

Pure, overwhelming draconic domination, designed to bend the knees, force obedience, awaken primal fear.

The world waits.

Lunaya staggers.

For half a second.

Then…

something shifts.

Her Resonance doesn't repel the aura.

It detunes it.

Like a false note in a perfect chord.

The Inquisitor takes a step back.

Surprised.

"What is"

Dravik falls to his knees.

Not from pain.

From shock.

His fire…

no longer obeys him.

It subsides.

Calm.

Silent.

"Lunaya…" he whispers.

The other draconians hesitate.

Mistake.

Kael lunges forward.

A brutal impact.

Bone against scales.

Fangs against throat.

Sahr reappears behind the second one, blade drawn, a dangerous smile on his face.

"You came here to test a human, he whispers.

Bad move."

The fight is short.

Gory.

Precise.

When silence falls, two Inquisitors are on the ground.

Alive.

Humiliated.

The third… looks at Lunaya.

With something new in his eyes.

No hatred.

Fear.

"Report transmitted, he says, stepping back.

The Resonant resists domination.

It affects blood ties."

He vanishes in a column of heat.

No one speaks for several seconds.

Then Dravik slowly gets to his feet.

He looks at his hands.

"They didn't want to capture you, he says.

They wanted to see if you would break me."

Lunaya understands.

And it hits her harder than the attack.

"Then tell them, she whispers.

Tell them I don't break anything."

She lifts her head.

Her eyes shine.

"I reveal."

Far away, in a tower of words and chains,

Erynd is suffocating…

…and smiles despite the pain.

Because he knows it now.

The test is over.

The next phase begins.
