At first, Eugene wasn't very confident about getting anything from the two. He was confident he could get them talking shit about him, but nothing about the leak—especially when Raphael looked genuinely clueless.
Was it because the twins in his memory were still two alphas who would smack his head or push his shoulder just for 'fun'? People who could do whatever they wanted to him without any consequences, and were even encouraged by their father to do so. He did say he wasn't afraid of them, but there was still this impression that he had to be cautious and walk on eggshells around them.
Funnily enough, it seemed like their image of Eugene also stuck at his teenage years, especially the era after he manifested as an omega. The Eugene who was planning to run away and thus tried to act low-key and obedient so his plan wouldn't be suspected. Even when he slipped and acted calm or defiant at some point, they didn't seem to suspect him at all.
