Nathan stared blankly at the ceiling. "I've failed her. I'm a fucking useless person."
"Nathan, you haven't failed her," Caleb said firmly. "You wouldn't have known. None of us would have known."
Before Nathan could answer, a knock at the door interrupted the silence. Caleb looked over to see a nurse standing at the door.
"Mr. Keith," the nurse said gently. "There's a woman out here with a child. She says her name is Natasha, and she says she's here with your son."
Nathan's face immediately darkened. "No," he said flatly. "Tell her to go away."
The nurse looked taken aback. "Are you sure? She said—"
"I said no," Nathan interrupted. "I don't want her in here."
The nurse paused, her eyes flicking to Caleb as if seeking some sort of confirmation. However, when that didn't come, she nodded hastily and left, closing the door behind her. Caleb looked at Nathan, a confused expression on his face.
