The loud, rhythmic thumping of the massive helicopter blades slowly turned into a soft, steady hum.
Roxy kept her eyes squeezed tightly shut. She hid her burning, sweaty face against Zarek's warm chest, her hands gripping his dark shirt. She felt totally, completely exhausted. Her body was burning with a terrible fever, and her heart physically hurt from missing her babies so much. She felt like she was trapped in a dark, spinning tunnel.
But Zarek held her incredibly tight. He used his broad chest and his giant arms to shield her from the noise and the cold, rocking her gently the entire flight.
After what felt like hours, the helicopter started to descend. The pilot set them down incredibly smoothly. The engine cut off, and the loud noise finally faded away into perfect, total silence.
Zarek wrapped the thick white blanket tighter around her shivering shoulders. He stepped out of the helicopter, carrying her easily.
